WHY I SELECT THIS TOPIC?

As a student of civil engineering , everybody have to know the available engineering products and how it’s price. But it is unfortunate to say lots of students have no idea about its .So I try to give some information about available products, source and price of engineering materials.

ENGINEERING MATERIALS SOURCE, AVAILABILITY & PRICE

Cement: Use as a binder materials Source: cement’s basic element is clinker. In Bangladesh 95%- 96% clinker are imported. Fly ash, slug , gypsum etc are also imported products.

this product’s basically import from India, China, Indonesia and Thailand.

Brick: use as filler material. Basically it use in partition wall, and it’s chips use as CA.

Source: In Bangladesh brick is totally produce by own.

Availability : In Bangladesh various type brick are found.

1st class brick, 2nd class brick, 3rd class brick, Hallow brick, Perforated brick, etc. Fiq: hallow

BRICK Size: Generally in market we get the size of

brick is 9.5”X4.5”X 2.75”. And from per 840 brick we get 100 cft brick chips.

Price: It sells as per Piece. Also sell as per thousand piece. Per 1 piece:

1st class: 8-8.5 BDT2ND CLASS:7-7.5 BDT

MACHINE MADE{1st class}: 10-12 BDT HALLOW BRICK: 13-15 BDT

In market we also get brick chips which sells 80-85 BDT as cft.

STONE CHIPS Stone chips: use as CA. Source: basically we get stone only

Sylhet area. By crashing it we stone chips. But some time we import stone from India too.

Availability : in market we get two type of stone chips:

Crushed stone chips Shingles

Price: shingle are 110-115 BDT per cft.Crushed stone chips are 125-130 BDT per

cft.

SAND Sand: use as FA.

Source & Availability : In Bangladesh sand are available. Basically we get sand from sylhet area, Paksi from Pabna area, Kumarkali from Kustia area and few river sides.

In sylhet area’s sand known as “Mota dana er Bali” and Paksi’s sand known as “Cikon dana er Bali”

Price: Sand basically sell in market per cft. In basis of quality sand sell in

market 25-35 BDT as per cft.

STEEL BAR Steel bar: use in concrete as

reinforcement.

Source: Bangladesh import raw material(iron ore, limestone) of steel from foreign country. And produce different size of steel bar.

Availability : In market available Forms steel bars are :

Plain round bars Deformed bars

Twisted bars (tor steel) square bars

flatsAlso based on tensile strength we get

40 ,60 and 72 grade steel bar.We also find different diameter of steel bar

too.

Price: Maximum we use deformed bar. In

Bangladesh we see steel bar r sells per kg or per ton.

CHEMICAL ADMIXTURE

Admixture: use for special purpose.

Source: Imported product.

Availably: 1.Retarder &2. Super-plasticizer (are mainly used)

Price: super-plasticizer are sells per litter 1400-1600 BDT.

WATER Source: Available in Bangladesh

everywhere as underground water, river water, pond water etc. But sea water never use as construction work.

Price: it’s free but some cases of urban area it have carried in truck which contains 4000 gallons water whose price is 800-900BDT.

OTHERS SOURCE: Few raw materials are

imported (paint, white cement) product and few are home product(timber, glass)

LABORER It is not a engineering material but it

very relative to this matter.

There are two types of laborer are found:

I. Skill laborer: 400-500 BDT per dayII. Unskilled laborer: 350-400 BDT per

day

RE-COMMENDATION There are nearly 2.5 * tons of concrete

produced each year for every human on the planet, making it the most used man-made product in the world. And every year in the world we waste more than 900* million tons of concrete.

We can use this concrete as CA which helps to recycling those concrete to help environment and also introduce new available CA.
