General principles of using Audio-Visual Aids

•Using Visual Aids should not be considered as a substitution for teaching. It only meant to supplement oral and written presentation.•Use of aids in the class room should not be confused with providing entertainment. The aim of using aids should be to make learning more interesting and effective.•Aids must be suited to the age and intellectual level of the pupil and to the nature and extent of their previous experiences•Aids should be realistic in nature. The use of actual specimen should be preferred to showing a photograph or slide•When a teacher has to select one aid from among a possible set ,economy of time, effort and money and the efficiency of the aid should be the criteria for making the selection

Important steps for the effective use of Audio-Visual Aids

Planning-should aware about the objectives of the presentation. Ample number of Aids have to be planned. Plan in advance to keep them ready to present at the appropriate timePreparation-Select convenient and comfortable meeting place, seating arrangement. Anticipate the need for special effects like ventilation, total lighting,darkeness etc based on the concerned aidPresentation –Motive the audience and stress the key points they should observe during the presentation. Present aids at the right moment and in sequence. Speak facing the audience and not the side. AndEvaluation-At the end evaluate by providing the discussion and dispel misunderstanding if any.
