Autumn / Winter 2019

I started Asquith 17 years ago, as I was frustrated with the synthetic, logo-heavy activewear available. I wanted to make elegant, naturally breathable clothing in a way that benefited people and minimised the impact on the environment, and this hasn’t changed.

We work hard to source the best quality, super soft, eco-friendly fabrics and produce our clothes in a wonderful European factory, where people are paid fairly and are very happy. People and planet come first, always.

Multi-functionality was key to me when designing this collection. We’ve always taken pride in making clothes that last, but I’ve found creating classic designs that can serve many purposes and be styled in multiple ways is increasingly important. I hope, in some small way, that choosing to design in this way will help combat the effects of throwaway fashion.

This season we’ve updated our bestselling styles with new colours and design details. And, following feedback from our customers, we’ve also expanded our collection to include lots more lifestyle pieces. This includes a very flattering tunic, some fabulous wear everywhere leopard print pajamas, scarves and two new super comfortable bamboo pants.

Collection Inspiration

I inherited this painting from my mother and have always loved the style and colours. When I sat down to design our AW19 collection I kept looking at the painting and thinking about how much I loved the moody shades of purple and blues, and the collection started to form.

It was painted by T.H.W. (Bob) Ashby who I have known my whole life, as his wife was my mother’s best friend. He’s a retired art teacher whose paintings have featured in galleries and exhibitions across the UK since the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 1952. He is a truly lovely man and I am honoured that his much-loved painting has been the inspiration for this collection.

Our factory was established 22 years ago by a Turkish businesswoman. The 50–strong team work 8.5 hour days, have weekends off and paid holidays. Most of the employees have

worked there for 10–25 years and everyone is over 23 years old.

They have a fantastic cafeteria where they enjoy lunches made with organic vegetables and salad grown on their own roof terrace. As you can imagine, everyone is very happy and

we love visiting as often as we can.
