A favorite New Jersey fall tradition will once again bring the sights, sounds and flavors of autumn to downtown Morristown. The 24th annual Morristown Festival on the Green will take place Sunday, Sept. 30 from noon to 5 p.m., rain or shine.
Admission is free for the family-friendly autumn kickoff, produced by the nonprofit Morristown Partnership with the help of new and returning event sponsors and supporters.
The Green and adjacent downtown streets will be lined with exhibitors showcasing local businesses, restaurants and notable community groups and organizations offering a bevy of food, entertainment, services and exhibitions for all to enjoy.
“We are pleased to have more than 160 exhibitors again this year showcasing their restaurant, retail and service businesses, as well as many non-profit organizations that help our community thrive,” said Karen Carvelli, director of development for the Morristown Partnership. “Morristown has become the destination of choice in northern New Jersey and the annual festival is one of the many reasons why.”
Live entertainment on four stages throughout the downtown will set the tone for an exciting day. The Heart of Gold Band, an American rock band and perennial festival favorite, will take the stage sponsored by the County College of Morris. Meanwhile, modern country tribute band BIG HIX will mark its first festival appearance.
The popular Beer Tent will be returning to the festival this year and is being produced in partnership with The Famished Frog and HOPS Craft Bar. Open from noon to 5 p.m. for 21-plus guests only, pricing will be $3 per ticket. Attendees will have the choice between a domestic draft for 1 ticket and a variety of craft drafts for 2 tickets. Beer Tent guests will also get the best seat in the house to enjoy Guy Smiley and BIG HIX appearing on the Star Stage.
“The support of many longstanding sponsors, as well as an influx of new sponsors, makes this event thrive each year. Sponsor enthusiasm, community participants and nearly 60,000 attendees make Morristown — and the Morristown Festival on the Green — truly shine,“ Carvelli noted.
Sponsoring the festival for the first time, PNC Bank anticipates the festival will be “a great opportunity to connect with the people we serve,” said Joe Whall, New Jersey client and community relations director for the bank.
“As a Main Street Bank, we can think of few better ways to celebrate with our neighbors in Morristown and across northern New Jersey than by supporting one of the state’s most anticipated and popular community festivals. Stop by and visit our tent: the PNC Bank team looks forward to meeting everyone,” Whall said.
Younger festival-goers will be able to once again enjoy rides and attractions at the Kids Place. This year for the first time the Kids Place will be supported by schools taking on the role of event contributors. Representatives from Far Hills Country Day School, The Willow School and others will be on-site next to their selected rides.
“Far Hills Country Day School is thrilled to support the Morristown Festival on the Green,” said Megan Collyer, director of strategic marketing and communications at the private school serving pre-kindergarten through eighth grade students. The school offers a curriculum built on academic excellence and character development as well as co-curricular options outside the classroom including musical theater, math league and technology.
“At Far Hills, we value and thrive on the strength of
community, which flourishes in an event like this. We look forward to meeting old — and seeing new — friends and neighbors inside the Kids Place at the Giant Slide.”
Beyer Ford and Beyer Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram will sponsor the event for the eighth time. “The Morristown Festival on the Green is one of our favorite events during the year,” said Bridget Beyer, dealer principal for the family-owned dealership. “The beautiful autumn weather brings the entire community out to celebrate. Once again we will bring our always-popular prize wheel and offer attendees the opportunity to spin and walk away with a gift.”
Modera 44 and 55 Apartments will sponsor the event for the fifth year, according to Derek Silvestri, community manager for Modera. “We are so pleased to support the community that we work in and our renters have chosen to live in,” Silvestri said of participating in the annual festival.
“This year has been eventful for Modera due to the opening of Modera 55 in May. We look forward to meeting and welcoming many prospective renters and having them see firsthand all that Morristown has to offer” Silvestri added. Located on Prospect Street, just a stone’s throw from the Morristown Green, Mill Creek Residential’s Modera properties boast chic urban living and supreme walkability in the desirable destination town.
40 North Restaurants, headquartered in Morristown, is a longstanding participant and first-time sponsor of the festival this year. Boasting six brands and 10 locations throughout New Jersey, it will bring two of its Morristown-based restaurants, local favorites, The Office Tavern Grill and George + Martha’s American Grille. “We support the Morristown Partnership in many of their events throughout the year,” said Steve Baliva, divisional vice president of operations for 40 North Group. “The festival is a great day to showcase the wide variety of local businesses that make Morristown the ‘place to be’ in northern New Jersey.”
The 40 North Group will offer a hot food station in front of The Office with fare representing both its Morristown eateries.

The 5th annual Morristown Festival of Books is happening on Oct. 12-13
— and it is not to be missed. Headline authors include Joyce Carol Oates,
A.J. Finn, Chris Matthews, Laini Taylor, Mark Di Ionno, Ibtihaj Muhammad,
Matt de la Peňa, Kate Morton, and more.
Book festivals can take many shapes and sizes. The Morristown Festival
is wonderfully unique. In fact, it has been hailed as “the best” and “truly
outstanding” by authors, publishers, and delighted participants.
What happens at MFOB?
• In-person talks by more than 50 world-class authors, representing
every imaginable genre, including Pulitzer Prize winners, Caldecott
medalists, New York Times chart toppers, and more.
• Book signings by these wonderful authors: yes, you can meet your
literary idol.
• New, beautiful books for purchase (and then signed, with possible
opportunity to take a selfie with the author).
• Discussion, insight, laughter, snacks, book-loving camaraderie,
tote-bag-strapitis.
All of this is open to the public and, aside from select ticketed talks, free
of charge. The opening night is a ticketed Keynote Event and this year’s
guest is former Secretary of State John Kerry.
The Main Festival takes place from 10 a.m.
to 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 13, rain or shine, at
several locations in the heart of downtown
Morristown. There are plenty of red-shirted volunteers to direct you once
you arrive.
Now, does this sound like something you want to miss? Of course not.
Mark the calendar and make your plans now. For more information and
a complete list of festival authors and events, visit morristownbooks.org.
