discussed during the joint meetings. The meetings invited various Internet Service Providers (ISP) in Taiwan to exchange IP policies and administrative mechanisms related to the research in Internet technology and industrial development.Herman Rao , Execu t i ve V i ce P res iden t o f FarEasTone, presented the latest developing trends of mobile Internet in the keynote speech on June 22. George Michaelson, Senior Research and Development Scientist of Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC), provided a detailed analysis of the global development of Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) deployment in his speech. To answer the global exhaustion of Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) resources, the IPv6 Upgrade Promotion Program was approved by the Executive Yuan on December 30, 2011. The vision of the program was to provide a seamless transition to an IPv6 upgrade in governmental networks and to promote the development of industries related to IPv6. Through the program, the governmental networks had satisfied the demand of IPv6 users, with the Office Internet Access Service Upgrade being 100% completed by December 2015. The successful experience of the upgrade was presented in the 2016 TWNOG and 26th TWNIC IP Open Policy Meeting for related industries.

Taiwan Internet Connectivity Bandwidth Survey Q2 2016The .tw/.台灣 campaign on Both Taipei and Kaohsuing MRT Stations

The latest Taiwan Internet Connectivity Bandwidth Survey, conducted by the TWNIC, revealed that, as of the end of June 2016, the total international bandwidth of Taiwan in Q2 had reached 1,769,809 Mbps, a 54,724 Mbps increase from last quarter. Both the domestic and foreign bandwidth grew steadily. The TWNIC regularly reports Internet-related survey data, and the Taiwan Internet Connectivity Bandwidth Survey provides the latest and most detailed data and trends of domestic and international Internet

connectivity. As of the end of June 2016, in the list of the top 15 countries or regions for international bandwidth traffic related to Taiwan, the United States topped the total bandwidth traffic at 922,877 Mbps, followed by Japan (342,395 Mbps), Hong Kong (238,002 Mbps), China (195,782 Mbps), and Singapore (29,948 Mbps). Overall, most of the countries and regions that Taiwan Internet connected to were in the Asia Pacific region, except the United States, the Netherlands, and the

Beginning in August, TWNIC-themed light boxes began being displayed in Taipei and Kaohsiung metro stations to brand the .tw/.台灣. The TWNIC has long promoted the .tw/.台灣 domain name and the “Made in Taiwan” labels. To associate the .tw/.台灣 domain name with Taiwan, the advertising light boxes display brilliant sights of Taiwan such as the Taipei 101 fireworks on New Year’s Eve, the Tropic of Cancer Monument representing the diversity of the Taiwanese climate, and the Eluanbi Lighthouse symbolizing the sunshine in summer. The TWNIC wants the .tw/.台灣 country code top-level domain to remind passengers of the collective memories of Taiwan.

ICANN 56 meeting

Chinese Domain Name Consortium Conference in Haikou

The TWNIC aims to promote a basic understanding of domain names for users, inspire users to emphasize information security, and improve users’ risk awareness and sensitivity to information security, thereby strengthening information security protection. Therefore, to provide domain name users with opportunities for technical training, the TWNIC organized Internet security educational training courses on topics including DNS security, Linux firewall and system monitoring, information security, and system intrusion prevention. In addition, new introductory courses for Openstack cloud computing and big data analyses have been offered in 2016 to improve users’ abilities of cloud virtualization and

system log analysis. The TWNIC would like to thank all attendees for participating in the training. Many courses have been fully booked since June, and the courses from June to August have been completed smoothly. Many other courses will open up for registration, and the TWNIC would like to welcome .tw domain name users to grasp the chance of attending these free training courses. The availability of these courses is likely to be limited, so those interested are encouraged to register as soon as possible. For course schedules and syllabi, please go to http://dns-security.twnic.net.tw.

The TWNIC is hosting the 2016 New-Generation Internet Protocol Education Training program from June to November 2016 to promote the application of IPv6 and cultivate IPv6 technicians. All the courses are free and fully sponsored by the TWNIC to provide the public with opportunities for IPv6-related technical training. The planned course outlines are as follows:1.IPv6 classroom lectures:

a.IPv6 Routing Connectivity Settingsb.IPv6 Router Settings for Internal Upgrades and

Establishing a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol Version 6 (DHCPv6) Server

c.IPv6 Wi-Fi Router Settings2.IPv6 hands-on instructional sessions:

a.IPv6 Operating System and Application Service Establishment Practices for Windows

b.IPv6 Operating System and Application Service Establishment Practices for Linux

The courses are classroom lectures and hands-on instructional sessions. Instructors provide oral presentations and demonstrations in classroom lectures, and the TWNIC IPv6 Lab softwares are used in hands-on instructional sessions for student practice.

To facilitate government agencies with upgrading to IPv6, the TWNIC has compiled examples for Office Internet Access Service Upgrade proposals as references for government agencies. The TWNIC assisted the Internet Protocol Upgrade Promotion

Office in hosting numerous Office Internet Access Service Upgrade orientations in July 2016. During the orientations, Office Internet Access Service Upgrade plans and examples for proposals were presented to facilitate government agencies with writing Office

The 56th Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN 56) public meeting was held in Helsinki, Finland on June 27–30, 2016. It was the first ICANN meeting in a policy forum format. The meeting offered opportunities for discussions of Internet policies and cooperation. A total of 199 sessions were held with 1,436 attendees from around the world. In cross-community sessions, the discussed topics included next generation registration directory services, a review of all rights protection mechanisms in all generic top-level domains (gTLDs), a charter for

the Cross-Community Working Group (CCWG) on auction proceeds, new gTLD subsequent procedures, a draft framework of principles for CCWGs, and ICANN 57 planning.During aforementioned sessions the working group of ICANN 56 was decided to continue to monitor the current gTLD procedures. Shortly after ICANN 56, the working group is expected to form a series of sub-teams to begin its consideration of subjects such as the application submission and evaluation process of top level domains.

The Chinese Domain Name Consortium (CDNC) conference was held in Haikou, Hainan, China, on March 15–19, 2016. The co-chairman were professor Shian-Shyong Tseng and professor Hua-Lin Qian, and the 28 attendees included Ai-Chin Lu, Vice-CEO of the TWNIC, and Xiao-Dong Li, Director of the China Internet Network Information Center. The attendees not only exchanged and informed each other of business reports and technological developments, but also discussed the CDNC variant table and ICANN Label Generation Rules. In addition, the attendees generally supported the establishment of the IDN ccTLD Initiative (ITI) and promote IDN and Email Address Internationalization (EAI). Furthermore,

the attendees also discussed topics such as EAI promotion and establishing a mailing list for DNS technology. Finally, the conference decided that the TWNIC will host the next meeting.
