SLOUGH TRADING ESTATE WOULD LIKE TO WELCOME…

SEGRO has completed a new 42,000 sq ft development on Leigh Road, which was pre-let to Lancaster plc, part of Jardine Motors Group. Lancaster will operate its franchise for the sale and servicing of Jaguar Land Rover vehicles from the bespoke 24,000 sq ft car showroom and 18,000 sq ft workshop and servicing centre.

Jardine Motors is continuing to expand its footprint and is now an authorised franchisee for 23 manufacturers, operating in over 70 locations nationwide and employs over 3,000 team members.

As part of this expansion, the existing Jaguar Land Rover dealership will move from its current smaller site on the Bath Road and relocate to the new facility. SEGRO worked closely with Lancaster to understand their needs and deliver a development to suit their precise requirements which in this instance even includes car storage on the roof! SEGRO are delighted to welcome Lancaster to the estate and look forward to the showroom opening later this year once Lancaster has completed its internal fit out.

Based in the heart of the Slough Trading Estate for 70 years, the Collingwood Health Medical Centre is undergoing a facelift, as is the Buckingham Centre where they are based. As a result of the works, the ground floor will be converted into three new retail units. The Collingwood Health Medical Centre will retain space on the ground floor to create a brand new multi-purpose consulting room as well as a fresh and inviting reception area, renovated with modern facilities. The training room on the first floor of the Centre will also be revamped with new décor, facilities and the latest audio/visual equipment.

A ceremonial ribbon cutting to officially open the Collingwood Health Medical Centre is expected to take place towards the end of the year, along with a series of events to celebrate the opening and give everyone an opportunity to take a look at the new facilities and find out more about the services on offer.

Collingwood Health is focused on expanding the range of health services available at the Centre. The physio practice and travel clinic is growing as well as their dental hygienist offer, and they plan to re-start their Private GP service in the near future, all as drop-in services for local businesses, workers, and residents.

Investing in employee health and wellbeing is essential for every organisation. Company-wide wellbeing programmes, stress awareness training, know your numbers mini-medicals, dignity training, flu jabs, and well-person clinics, are great ways for businesses to embrace the health agenda. SEGRO has teamed up with Brunel University to help Slough Trading Estate customers develop their employees and support business growth. SEGRO and Brunel have been working collaboratively, as part of the Cumberland initiative, a research laboratory that develops better processes and systems to improve care and save money in the NHS which was set up by Academics at Brunel University on the Slough Trading Estate three years ago, to establish an educational and innovative presence in Slough.

The planned ‘on-estate’ outreach centre for teaching and tutorials will support the delivery of courses using the latest blended learning tools and methods. Brunel University offers a wide range of courses in engineering and computer science, business, accounting, socials science, and life sciences.

SEGRO is currently undertaking an assessment to better understand what those on the estate would find helpful and the type of educational provision that is required, be it one or two day specialist support, organisation development, modules and courses, or complete degrees at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

SEGRO is keen to get some insight from its customers and is arranging meetings with the Brunel team to assess the identified development needs. Please contact [email protected] further information.

Geoff Prowling, Head of Sales Enablement (B2B), O2 (Telefònica) said:

O2 and Slough go back a long way. Telefònica (trading as the O2 brand) is the second largest mobile telecommunications provider in the UK with a lengthy history in the area as well as being a prolific employer of local residents.

The UK Head Office of O2 (Telefònica) is located on Bath Road but what is the focus of the business at the Buckingham Avenue building?

Buckingham Avenue is our main network operations centre in the UK, a key part of our infrastructure and core network. We have significant networking requirements and the telecommunications infrastructure provision on

the estate is a fundamental requirement when considering where we build critical capabilities like our network operations centre.

You have an interesting approach when it comes to your workforce, could you explain more?

While Buckingham Avenue is a 24-hour operational facility with engineers working round the clock, Telefònica has a predominantly mobile workforce with a strong flexible-working culture. Our mantra is that work is something you do, not a place you go to.

We give our employees the tools to work flexibly, one example is Just Call Me, our conference call app. We encourage our employees to work flexibly and in turn it has reaped significant benefits for the company, both in terms of cost savings and energy efficiency but also with employee loyalty – flexible working being the one thing employees value the most.

O2 is very established in Slough, what is it about the area?

We have a long history in Slough and we’re proud of our presence and commitment to it. We’re one of the biggest employers in the area and we also work with many of the businesses on the Slough Trading Estate providing services via our B2B corporate sales teams.

Could you tell us more about the B2B corporate business side of O2?

We’re a very customer centric and people focused business and lead with our “mobile first” capabilities. To give you an example we’re able to replace the traditional fixed phone and telephone line systems with mobile devices that have increased capabilities and integration to systems like email and calendar. This brings huge cost savings, for example, no cabling is required and instead the services are hosted in the cloud. Businesses can still have a regional or local numbers but the calls are delivered to a mobile device, seamlessly.

What about the consumer side of O2, what benefits are there to Slough Trading Estate customers?

E-CAREERS TO DELIVER AFFORDABLE TRAINING COURSES ON THE ESTATE

Slough Trading Estate’s Business Watch, the on-site initiative that ensures the safety of the estate, has recently purchased a new eco vehicle for its mobile patrol service as part of an innovative scheme to offer more sustainable security services.

Business Watch is constantly seeking to improve service and lower our carbon footprint and is delighted to announce that the Nissan Leaf (30kWh) will be its newest electrically powered patrol vehicle.

Created as an all-electric car with innovative features that maximise the driving range whilst also offering energy-saving driving modes, the Nissan Leaf has a range of 155 miles and was purchased from Ancaster Nissan Slough on the Slough Trading Estate.

It will have the same high visibility markings as their present Ford Mondeo but will be far more sustainable, as it produces no tailpipe pollution or greenhouse gas emissions at the point of operation, and contributes to reduced dependence on petroleum.

It is also incredibly affordable, offering significantly lower running costs than a standard car as it does not use any petrol or diesel, charging it is cheap and it is exempt from road tax and congestion charge costs.

Over the next few months you are in for a pleasant surprise as we begin our signage refresh programme. As part of this, all 170 directional wayfinding signage and totems located on the estate will be replaced. The old signage, which was installed over thirty years ago, will be updated with a modern new style to match the new totems which were installed in April this year.

The new signage will be predominantly red and will be visible across various locations on the estate, including Farnham Road, Buckingham Trade Park and the retail units on Buckingham Avenue. The Buckingham shopping area signage will also be replaced to create a central hub on the estate.

The new signage is being installed by Octink, a leading UK marketing activation business based in London, who specialise in large format graphic production, general signage, and interiors. Octink have already started works in August.

ESTATE SIGNAGE TO GET FRESH NEW MAKEOVER

This year’s event was set up in aid of the Slough Pit Stop Project, which is a local community education service for young people. Pitstop’s vision is to engage and motivate young people with the view to equip them with the confidence and skills to succeed in life. Pitstop serves its local community, and mainly young people, by capturing their interest in construction, motor vehicles and catering in order to help them make successful links into education, training and employment.

This year’s event was attended by a variety of companies from across the Slough Trading Estate and there was a total of 14 teams who participated on the day. The teams who took part put on a great display

and all those who played battled it out competitively right until the last hole.

The activities which took place on the day were enjoyed by all and raised over £2000 to support the Slough Pit Stop Project. The winning team of the day was Cordant Security and a special congratulation goes to the highest scoring player Matt West, from Cordant Security.

A special thanks also goes to estate customers who donated towards the auction and raffle prizes including, Cross Fit, P&M Autos, MooGoo, TankBeer, Motion Simulation, Go Jumpin, Karl Storz, KK Power, Screwfix.

The annual Slough Trading Estate charity Golf Day took place this year on Monday 19th June at The South Buckinghamshire Golf Club. The event which has now grown to a yearly occasion saw customers from all over the estate coming together to support a great cause whilst having fun playing golf.
