Everyone who took part – on either side of the curtain – will tell you: the ETO Handelfest in 2009 was an exuberant celebration of an opera genius. At every stop on tour it was mad, and exciting. Something happened, several times daily: extraordinary art in ordinary places, a festival that moved.

In October/November 2011, we are going to do it again. This time we add a Purcell opera (The Fairy Queen), repeat one runaway success (Flavio), and produce a new Xerxes (Handel’s celebrated comedy in the Venetian style).

Alongside we are scheming to stage French baroque music in heritage churches, to perform powerfully strange madrigals by Gesualdo, and to put together Bach cantatas with our professionals and your local choir.
