A quiet revolution

* People who use sharing solutions like Airbnb and BlaBlaCar or on-demand solutions like Uber.

Global issues, disruptive technologies and cultural shifts are changing the mobility landscape, affording consumers more choices than ever before.

Urbanites - and especially on-demanders* - are sparking an urban mobility revolu-tion. They are looking beyond car ownership as the answer to their mobility needs.

Reduced car ownership means less pollution, more road space, and fewer accidents. This allows urbanites to commute more with solutions like bicycles, e-scooters and solo-wheels.

Smartphones have given urbanites the freedom to blend modes; e.g. they can cycle, use car-sharing, and complete the last mile with kick scooters.

New choices and new freedoms in the mobility game are creating an urban lifestyle that is nimble, sustainable, contemporary and cool.

Autonomy is the place to connect and gain position in the upcoming and growing smart mobility market. The place where products, sharing solutions, and decision makers converge.

THE MORE WE GO DIGITAL, THE MORE WE VALUE THE TOUCH AND TASTE OF LIVE EVENTS. There is nothing like real experience and live human interaction to connect audience to brand, and build business relationships that last.

Ross DouglasFounder and CEO of AUTONOMY

”New mobility is now clearly something that excites urbanites. There is a major opportunity for companies and brands to align with their audience as they start this journey. Our format is not the traditional trade show but a lifestyle event that gives urbanites the opportunity to experience and adopt new mobility solutions.

Paris, home to Vélib’ and Autolib’, is on the cutting edge of urban mobility. Mayor Hidalgo is spending €150 million to turn Paris into “…the world’s urban cycling capital by 2020,” by which date the city aims to ban diesel vehicles. Parisians are offered a subsidy for the purchase of electric bikes and scooters. AUTONOMY Paris 2016 has support from Paris City Hall.

Paris is home to great on-demand solutions: Drivy, BlaBlaCar, Deezer.

AUTONOMY Paris 2016 takes place at the Grande Halle Parc de la Villette, from Thursday October 6th to Sunday October 9th, 2016.

Parc de la Villette is the largest urban cultural park in Paris. The Grande Halle is a beautiful, iconic 19th century structure combining metal, wood and natural light for the perfect urban mobility venue. La Villette is well known to our target market for premier lifestyle and cultural events. The covered track and the canal paths are great for two-wheel testing, and the outside lawns are ideal for special events.

The location, with its beautiful spaces, was chosen to disrupt the traditional fair model and offer an inspiring experience. Airbnb has booked it for their 2015 international host get-together.

The background of this revolution

p.20

Global issues

Urbanisation, global warming, pollution and congestion are driving change as commuters seek alternatives to old ways of moving in cities.

p.21

Disruptive technology

Waves of unprecedented technological change are transforming the mobility sector.

Electric batteriesElon Musk, with the recent launch of Tesla S, ended the debate “Can electric cars compete?” The Tesla S is faster, safer, quieter, cheaper to run than any car in its class; and even its range is comparable to combustion vehicles. All major car brands are launching electric vehicles. Electric bikes have a 20% growth in Europe and the price of renewable energy keeps dropping.

The Internet of ThingsIoT has major implications for urban mobility including: car sharing, ride sharing, improved traffic management, multi-modal transport, mobility on demand and self-driving cars. Google and Apple have joined large car manufacturers in the race to launch the driverless car. Ericsson, Cisco and other IT players are setting up the networks to make it happen. Driverless cars could be part of the urban mobility system as early as 2020.

p.22

Cultural shift

Mobility as a serviceWe have entered a new paradigm: the most desirable form of personal transport is no longer a privately owned car, which is after all a depreciating asset. Urbanites are starting to think about mobility as a service, a service that can be easily, and cheaply managed from their smart phones.

City policyMayors and city managers reading this shift have started pedestrianising streets, increasing bike lanes, subsidising e-bike purchases and banning polluting diesel vehicles.

On-demand and sharing economyOn-demand mobility companies have seen massive valuations (US$ 50 billion for Uber and US$ 1.2 billion for BlaBlaCar) which proves the market’s confidence in shared mobility solutions.

p.23

The new mobility ecosystem

Cross-industry collaborationThe urban mobility revolution will compel traditional industries and businesses to collaborate in ways never imagined. Consider the enormous potential for synergy when an engineering company like Bosch partners with an Internet company like Google. Companies that understand the players and make the right alliances will future-proof their businesses.

ELECTRIC CARS ARE GOOD BUT CONNECTED ELECTRIC CARS ARE BETTER.

Dr Volkmar DennerChairman of Bosch “

p.24

First mover advantageCompanies anticipating this change have created new business offerings for the on-demand economy. Daimler started their car-sharing business car2go.com in 2008 and bought RideScout, the multi-modal mobility app, in 2014. BMW has DriveNow, Renault has renault-rent.com and Avis bought Zipcar. Companies that think their clients will always be car-owning, car-financing, car-insuring individuals will be left behind.

DON’T ASSUME WE’RE ALWAYS GOING TO BE IN THE CAR BUSINESS... The notion is you don’t have to have ownership of a vehicle, you just want to get from point A to point B.

Bill Ford Jr, Executive Chairman of Ford Motor Company
