PREFACE
St. Ignatius’ College of Education, which had its birth in a noble heritage of
background, was established by ICM Missionary sisters, who contributed towards the
education of women in the Southern part of India.
The College started functioning in 1957 and has completed 53 years of glorious
service in the field of education. A mile stone in the growth of the college was the autonomy
status granted in the year 2008 which raised the potentiality and credibility of the institution.
With a total strength of 205 students and twenty three staff on the roll, the institution
today has substantial merit and mettle to create its niche’ in the educational arena.
MOTTO OF THE INSTITUTION
“ Virtue is our Strongest Shield”.
Mission
As ICM educators, we commit ourselves to work in a special way for the
development of an integrated personality of our students and staff by giving importance to
deep faith formation, inculcation of moral and spiritual values and empowering them to strive
for equal status in life.
Vision
Our College aims at the formation of prospective women teachers with
far-sighted clear vision of the present and future panorama of the needs and requirements for
the promotion of Social Justice and Social Progress.
With this permeating Vision in our mind, we sail forward with the single minded
devotion under the able guidance of our zealous administrators. As a team we bear in mind,
the following vital issues – past tradition, present status Future perspectives of progress.
This panoramic view enables the multiple dimensions of the role of the college originating
2
from the demands laid by the technological advancement and shift in our value system. With
this awareness all our curricular transaction and non-curricular programmes are geared
towards instilling in the student teachers the philosophy of simple living and high thinking
which would enable them to stand firm footed in the swift currents of globalization,
privatization and liberalization.
The shift in pedagogical synonym and function converges towards the focal point of
formation of fit members of the community – members who would fit smoothly into values
niche of social roles to be played that would in turn impel the national progress.
