Automotive TechnologySteering Systems (AUT801D)Course Description The steering gear mechanism is an integral component of any vehicle system. Service technicians must have a clear understanding of the principles of operation and the components of steering systems. They will learn how to diagnose and correct problems related to vehicle steering components; how to service and repair manual and power steering systems and steering columns; and about basic frame construction.

Introduction Manual steering gears provide drivers with mechanical leverage, responsive action, and reactionary feel for various road conditions. The apprentice must have a working knowledge and understanding of the steering gear to guide him/her in the, service, adjustment, diagnosis, and repair, and adjustment of steering systems.

The apprentice must have a working knowledge and understanding of various types of power steering pumps and how they work.
