Special cables for daisy chains More and more manufacturingautomates and transportationsystems are equipped with daisychains which include thenecessary connecting cables.Cables with special constructionare absolutely necessary toguarantee the long-term and safetransmission of energy and data. These cables must meet the toughrequirements like bending stress
due to extended displacementand high displacement velocities. Our robot trailing cables with PP,TPM and TPE insulation and TPUsheath particularly meet the highelectrical and mechanicalrequirements.
Assets of the robot trailing cables The use of the robot trailing cablesis particularly recommended forthe continually high bending stressin the machine tool equipmentand industrial robots. They areconstructed to withstand morethan 10 million bendings at abending radius of 12 x outerdiameter attained at displacementvelocities of 2 to 3 m/sec andaccelerations of up to 5 m/sec2.Special constructions and selectedappropriate materials guaranteethat the high requirements of therobot trailing cables are met.
Compared to the traditional PVCcables the robot trailing cablesmade by NEXANS have thefollowing assets:
The special PP, TPM and TPEinsulation of the cores is uniquefor the excellent gliding propertiesof the cores even at highoperating temperatures, thusguaranteeing an increased life inspite of high mechanical stress. This insulation is neither affectedby crushings (contractions) norby plasticizers respectivelybleeding which may result in abrittle insulation. Apart from goodheat resistance, those insulation
materials, are extremely flexiblewhen exposed to extremely lowtemperatures and embattlementand unusual rigidity do not occureven at temperatures as low as– 50 °C. The extraordinary qualityof the mechanical properties liketensile high stress, high notch andabrasion resistance protect theconductor against permanentstress.
The electromagnetic compatibility(EMC) is guaranteed by the screenconstruction with an optimisedangle of inclination.
The outer sheath made of aspecial polyurethane with itsknown resistance to low tempe-ratures, oils, greases, lubricantsand cooling agents is an idealcomplement to the good pro-perties of the insulation.
All included, this special cableconcept is the result of a long rowof complicated tests and it hasmeanwhile proved to be success-ful on the market. Important userslike Baumüller, Bosch, Fanuc,Heidenhain, Indramat, Moogor Siemens are among ourcustomers.

The removal of the cables must be without twists, i.e. the cablesmust be unreeled. They must never be pulled in loops over theflange of the drum. A balanced filling of the webs guarantees that theposition of the cables remains unchanged during operation.
Do not install cables of different sheath materials without using a separationweb.
The cables should be installed as symmetrically as possible dependingon their weights and measurements. This is also true for the outerdiameters. Cables which highly differ in outer diameter should beseparated by webs. The cables must not be installed in a fixed construction in the chain, butthey must be mobile. In particular in the area of the bending radii thecables must move freely. The indicated minimum bending radii must beconsidered the absolute minimum value.
Both ends of the cable must be fixed in a dead zone in an appropriatedistance to the ends of the mobile parts (approx. 30 x diameter). Atleast in the area of the mobile parts of the daisy chain the cables mustbe provided with a traction relief.
The cables must not touch the surface of the engine.
