  • What’s driving vehicle automation?

    6

“The human driver is the most intelligent but least reliable element of the active driving process.”

  • AV leadership and implementation

    12

By 2020, manufacturers are expected to offer enhanced self-driving capability that includes the ability to change lanes and follow simple directions from a navigation system. Drivers will still be needed to monitor progress and be prepared to take over when the traffic situation gets too complex. Truly driverless cars are expected by 2025, but this date will depend on legislative changes as well as steady improvements in technology.

  • Why 2020 is a key year

    19

"Our vision is that no one is killed or injured in a new Volvo by 2020.”

Anders Eugensson Head of Government Affairs, Volvo

Nissan, Toyota and Honda all want to be positioned to showcase highly automated vehicles to the world to take Olympic athletes to their events at 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

"Apple, which has been working secretly on a car, is pushing its team to begin production of an electric vehicle as early as 2020.“

    - Bloomberg

“We think sometime after 2020 we will be ready for the first highly automated functionality, which means the driver will be actually able to do something other than monitor the system.“

    Michael Aerberhard, BMW

  • Make no mistake: AV technology is an industry disruptor

    20

“The tech companies will take as much space as we are ready to abandon.”

    - Carlos Ghosn, CEO Nissan Motor Co.

  • Apple iCar?

    21

"A car has batteries; it has a computer; it has a motor; and it has mechanical structure. If you look at an iPhone, it has all the same things. It even has a motor in it"

    Tony Fadell Former SVP, Apple
