Autobiography (Family)
’m Yu Ting Yang. Linda is my English name. I’m 17 years old,
studying in Lin Yuan Senior High School. My family is composed of
4 people. My dad is an engineer, and my mom is an accountant. The
person whose career is the most different in my family is my sister, an
English teacher. She inspires me to work harder and harder, and to rival
her. Therefore, I always make more efforts than others. When others were
playing games, I think I couldn’t waste my time like them, and I have to
use my time wisely to study English lest I couldn’t catch up with others.
Every time there is English tests or presentation coming, I would study for
it again and again in order to get good grades.
My sister has a great influence on me. There is no gap between us
although we are quite apart in age. As she decided to become an English
teacher, she taught me English grammars, vocabulary and what could make
me become proficient in English. There was on time I almost lost the
passion to learn English, she told me “you can’t stop learning English, or
you’ll lose the key to explore the globe.” What she said prompts me to
devote more efforts to English.
Ever since I remembered, my parents had provided us with a lot of
sources of learning English, and instilled international perspective in our
mind. As I was 5 years old, my parents sent me to a bilingual kindergarten.
After kindergarten, my sister set out to teach me the more difficult aspects
of English. My family always said “the world is your friends”. Although
the internet was not popular then, they still tried to come up with an idea
to deal with the problem and bought a second-handed computer for me.
Since then, I have had more chance to reach out to foreigners. Through the
I
access to internet, I applied a Facebook account in order to make friends.
As I was7th grades, I know a foreign who come from Mexico and her name
is Thania. At the first year I knew her, we chatted through Facebook.
However, it seemed that the distance between us was too far, and our time
zone was different so that the system often made errors. After 3 years, we
begin to use What’s app. This app allows us to chat with each other so
conveniently that we still keep in touch now.
Thanks for my family’s contribution, I could have more chances to
reach out to the world.
Autobiography (Personality)
‘m glad to help others and I found that learning English enables me
to help people more, and having the sense of justice. Also, I ‘m able
to handle unexpected situations well.
There are following two examples. First, one day, I took a stroll
along the street with my mom and dad after dinner. We encountered a
foreigner who was looked like needing some helps. My parents thought
that maybe I could assist the woman. I asked “do you need some help?”
she said yes and I showed the way she wanted to go. Through these
matters, I realize the importance of knowing English. It allows me to help
more people, which is my idea of sheer bliss. Finally, our group was
going to present our English project in 10 minutes, while my teammate,
whose position was a presenter, had a stomachache. Therefore, I had to

take over his position. Nevertheless, I still handle the whole presentation
like a decent presenter.
Finally, I believe that my ability to tackle with unexpected events
and my will to bridge Taiwan and the world qualifies me to become a
responsible, capable and kind citizen of the world in your department.
Autobiography (School Life)
treasure my school life very much. Looking back on my senior high
school days, I suppose I’ve learned a lot of things, including how to
get along with others well, various ways to solve problems, and useful
living experiences…and so on. Furthermore, among these school subjects,
I love English the most and do pretty well in every aspect of it. Especially
reading.
As I was 9th grades, I was going to take an examination, GEPT
Elementary. That was my first time to take an English proficiency exam. I
was so nervous. While I opened the textbook, I was shocked. Because these
examination questions were as easy as my school’s monthly exams.
However, I didn’t slack, but still tried my best to prepare my first exam.
Therefore, I had more and more confidences that I would pass the test for
which I prepared more than 5 months because of my talent and efforts.
Finally, the result of the test totally met my expectation. Since received a
well result, I had had more passion to English at that time. Nevertheless, I
couldn’t be satisfied with this, I have to improve my English continuously.
After two years, I decided to take the exam of GEPT Intermediate as
I was 12th grades. I supposed that I was capable of passing the exam at once.
After that, I set out to prepare the test. During the time I studied for it, I
encountered some difficulties that I wasn’t able to solve on my own. I
asked a favor of my English teacher, who always answers my questions
with patience, and without any reservation. She is the benefactor during
my senior high school. I couldn’t thank her more. As I was senior high
school, my English was always on the top or second in the class. Therefore,
I was on our class’ behalf to join the English contest. I tried my best to
practice every time I have to join a contest although I wasn’t able to win
I
any prize. To improve my speaking, I asked a favor of my English teacher
after school and every lunch time before the contest. Was it tired?
Absolutely no. Because sinking in the English world is my favorite thing
to do. It was not easy to me to find adequate learning resource in remote
area, but I could still maintain my English level properly. Also, I didn’t
stop learning English, because of my grades. In the future, I believe that if
I could attend to this university, I’ll have more chances to improve my
proficiency.
During a summer vacation, I’ve ever participated an English summer
camp taking place in Yun Ling Tech University. We were separated into 4
teams. Our team’s name was ‘Jamie Bennett’ and these team names were
named after a movie ‘Rise Guardians’. In these 4 days in the camp, I
learn a lot of Taiwan’s customs and various conventions in different region.
Learning English from the camp was the first thing I wanted to do.
Unexpectedly, making friends was the thing which I did pretty well.
Thanks to our teacher assistant’s open-minded and humorous personality,
she allowed me who dared not to talked to others and was not familiar with
the surroundings to merge into our team. Moreover, the teachers in the
camp were also very kind and humorous to us. At the end of the activity,
we all had to be divided into 19 groups to present each of Taiwan’s city.
The purpose of our group was Hsinchu. We take travel and cuisine as our
presentation’s theme. One of the aspects of cuisine was my part., I
completed the slides and my oral draft for the report within two days before
the presentation. As usual, I practiced my presentation before my bed time
again and again with a view to giving an excellent report. After combining
our own part into the final project and discussing the order to present, we
eventually stepped on stage and finished our presentation successfully.
Those experiences mentioned above approve that I’m not only to love
English purely, but also to actively make lots of efforts to learn, solve
problems positively, and I could handle unexpected situations well. I
believe those features, experiences and personality are necessary to your
department. Undoubtedly, I’m exactly the student you need.
