2. What is Autism?

  • A group of neurobiological disorders that are characterized by deficits in social interaction and communication and by abnormalities in behaviors, interests, and activities (Britannica).

  • Delay in language skills, play habits, or ability to interact with others.
  • Repeated movements such as flapping of the arms, rotating an object, or biting their hands.
  • Some children will have outbursts of laughter or cry for no apparent reason.

  • Greater difficulty with social interaction.

  • Be understanding of those with autism because they have a hard time with social interactions and schooling. They cannot tell emotions or understand others feelings as well.

  • Autism is a terrible disorder, but it can be treated with assistance and therapy. While there are some low-functioning people suffering from autism, many are high-functioning and very productive members of society.
