School Website
During the next week your child will be receiving their log in details for the
school website (if they havent had them already!) Children can log in from
the website homepage at www.stoswalds.com to access our new virtual learning environment. There is a
great deal to see in here and children will be receiving training on the resource during the term. Please
make a note of your childs log in details and keep them safe. Why not take the opportunity to see
what is on there and how we are currently trying to engage children in their learning through the site?
Training sessions for parents will be held shortly after half term.

Parking
I appreciate that parking outside school in the morning and afternoon is a challenge at times but can I
once again remind all parents that the safety of pedestrians is paramount. Please do not block pavements
when parking on the kerb and be very careful if you need to reverse. I would also once again request that
drives of local residents are not blocked. Thank you for your support in this.
Diary Dates
All the dates we have for the autumn term are now on the school calendar on the website. Please take
time to update your own diaries using this. More dates will be added as we have them.
Twitter
Are you following us on twitter yet? You can follow us @stoswaldsCE We will be using twitter as just
one of our methods of communication with parents alongside the text messaging service, the website and
good old fashioned paper letters!
Meet The Teacher
Our first parents evening of the year will take place on Wednesday 24 September and takes the form of
the Meet The Teacher presentation as in previous years. Further details about this will follow but pop
the date in your diary now. Later this term there will be a further parents evening which will offer
individual appointments with your childs teacher and a chance to review your childs progress.
Absence
Please can we remind all parents to contact the office on the first morning of your childs absence so
the appropriate code can be put in the register. If it is going to be a long absence please keep school
informed. If you wish to request absence in advance this must be done using the form available from the
office. This includes requests for absence for examinations such as the 11+. Absence will only be authorised
in line with the school attendance policy.
PTA Update
As we welcome back returning families, and welcome new families to the school, I wanted to take the
opportunity to highlight the PTA. You may not have realised, but as the parent of a child at St
Oswald's, you are automatically a member of the PTA, and you are very welcome to attend the PTA
meetings. The first PTA meeting of this academic year is on Thursday 11th September at 7pm. Please
come along and hear Mr Wallace outline his plans for the year, and how the PTA can help him achieve
these. You will also hear about our fundraising plans and spending objectives for the year.
To learn more about our PTA please go to our section on the school website here:
I hope to see you next Thursday,
Jo Schumacher, PTA Chair

School Clubs
You should have received a sign up letter for clubs this week. There is a wide range of clubs on offer
my thanks go to the staff and parents who are giving up their time to run these. Please ensure that all
reply slips are returned by Wednesday 10 September so we can organise the club registers and start the
week beginning 15 September.
Mobile Phones
I would like to clarify that if children are to bring mobile phones into school they must be handed into
the school office in the morning in order that they are kept safe. They can then be collected at the end
of the day. For obvious reasons children are not able to make/take calls or text messages during the
school day.
