Dear Members Some people are telling me how times are getting harder for them. If you are in a difficult financial situation, please seek help. There are free financial counselling services helping those who have difficulties paying their debt. Financial counsellors do not assist with loans and they do not offer investment advice. They also do not manage your money for you. A financial counsellor will correspond and negotiate with creditors on your behalf. For assistance you can phone the National Debt Helpline on 1800 007 007 and speak to a financial counsellor on the phone. You can also contact the AGWS and we are happy to assess the level of support we can offer you. Please contact us on 9696 0907. Also, we have had some unexpected changes in our office. Stefanie, our bookkeeper, has left after many years of employment. We thank her for her contributions and wish her well. Soon we will have to prepare for another Annual General Meeting, which will take place on the 16th of October. Further information is provided in this edition of the newsletter and we hope to see you there. For September we are also planning a presentation, with coffee and cake, at the Club Tivoli. Please refer to the Calendar of Events for details. Yours Birgit

Clara Wieck Schumann Musician and Composer. She was well ahead of her time Clara Wieck Schumann, born on 13 September 1819 in Leipzig, was a distinguished German musician and composer of the Romantic era. She lived during a time when female musicians of her calibre were extremely rare to find and despite being one of the few women in a male-dominated field, she enjoyed a productive career that spanned six decades. As a little girl she received training in piano, violin, singing, theory, harmony, composition, and counterpoint and started performing at the age of eight under her father’s watchful eyes. She fell in love with one of her father’s students, Robert Schumann, and married him despite her father’s disapproval. She continued her career as a performing artist and composer after marriage and skilfully juggled her responsibilities as a professional, wife, and mother (of eight children). She played a major role in getting the works of her husband recognised and herself produced a small, but significant body of musical compositions. Clara’s husband is widely regarded as one of the greatest composers of the Romantic era but sadly, had quite a short career. Robert Schumann suffered from mental issues, had to be committed to an asylum due to his deteriorating mental and physical health and died in 1856 – Clara survived her husband by 40 years! Many of you might know Clara’s face; you can find it on the 10 Euro note! Regards from Linde Mohr

TTHA News Our winter woolies have come in handy of late with the bitterly cold winds blowing a gale and keeping us indoors. On such days we have been warming our bellies with some delicious fare from our kitchen like the variety of hearty soups, which are always a crowd pleaser. The delicious braises and roasts are one of my favourites, such as roast pork with all of the trimmings, beer braised beef or the roast turkey and cranberry sauce which are just divine. Our Lifestyle team have been hosting some magnificent new indoor activities recently, such as our cultural lunches, ‘sowing the seeds for spring’ and our indoor mobile library. Cultural lunches have been met with huge delight since they began with Chinese food, Italian and the Australian BBQ being shared. These lunches have given residents to opportunity to be involved as well, by assisting with cooking and serving residents and staff. Another new and hands on favourite is the ‘sowing the seeds for spring’. Fortnightly during winter our Tabulam residents have been planting seeds for our spring garden, which is a wonderous indoor sensory activity which brings such joy. These seedlings, come spring, will be planted in the garden outside of Tabulam. The mobile library is another new and welcomed addition to our lifestyle program and a fantastic initiative provided free-of-charge by the Eastern Regional Libraries. Prior to implementation, our Lifestyle team surveyed residents to see where their interests lay, fiction, non-fiction, magazines, books, audible books, the list goes on. With this information in-hand, Lifestyle then ordered books, magazines and audible books according to their interests, ensuring all books are large print. The mobile library rotates around the facility on a monthly basis, exchanging books and taking requests for any new items, if you or a loved one has some suggested titles, please let our Lifestyle team know. Our building project has been progressing well and we have been thrilled to take staff on supervised tours of the site recently. Our building and management teams have been taking small groups on

tours, viewing both the administration area on the ground floor as well as the two accommodation floors. The feedback from staff has been overwhelmingly positive at how wonderful this new wing will be once completed. The feedback with regards to the availability of some underground parking has been met with a lot of smiles, saving staff from the elements, especially around wintertime. If you or a loved one would be interested in more information in regards to the new wing, if you would like to donate to the project or go onto our waiting list for a room there, please contact our office on 8720 1333. Our Christmas market planning is now in full swing with our committee having met a few times already. The Christmas market, this year will be held on Sunday 24th November and will showcase over 70 stalls, entertainment, food and drinks and a fantastic children’s area. Our Social Support Groups have been on some marvellous outings lately and have not let the changeable weather keep them away from getting out to socialise with friends. Some of their favourite winter venues have been the Ringwood RSL, the Lilydale Museum, Sofia’s in Burwood, a browse around Maxi Foods in Ferntree Gully and the Royal Hotel for a delicious lunch with a glass of wine or beer. We currently have vacancies in our Wednesday and Thursday group, so if you or a loved one are interested in joining this social group, please call our Home Care office on 8720 1338 and talk to the team on how you can get involved. If you or a loved one are thinking about home assistance, or need extra support, our Accent Home Care team can give you all of the information and assistance you need. Our team is there to answer all of your questions and to guide you through the process, please call our office on 8720 1338 or [email protected]. As we sip on our soup, we invite you to come in and talk to us about your own aged care needs and how we can assist you. If you would like to make an enquiry for any of our services, please contact us on (03) 8720 1333 or visit our website: www.ttha.org.au, or Accent Home Care on (03) 8720 1338 www.accenthomecare.org.au Eva Simo – CEO

Horoscope

Yearly horoscope for the star sign Virgo Birthdays between 24th of August and the 23rd of September Home is where the heart is, Virgo. But with Jupiter spending most of 2019 in Sagittarius (your fourth house), this year you’ll be at home wherever you go! After all, for you, home is more a state of mind than a specific place. And the same goes for family—whether they’re biological relatives or kindred spirits, this year family ties are tighter than ever. You will be drawn toward spending more time with family and rediscovering your cultural and spiritual roots. Just be mindful of the gap between visions of what family relationships “should” or “could” be, and what they actually are. Jupiter squares Neptune in Pisces three times this year (January 13, June 16, and September 21), making it easy to over-idealize. Things can also get too close for comfort, especially if you and your family members aren’t careful to set healthy boundaries. You often put family first, Virgo, but by August, a Venus-Mars conjunction in your sign on the twenty-fourth puts your desires front and center. You won’t have to push too hard to get your way, though: with five planets in your sign at the Virgo new moon on August 30, you’ll have some powerful allies in your corner! You’re not asking for much—but asking at all feels like an empowering act of rebellion. It’s time to reject self-imposed limitations and dream a little bigger! 2019 will be all about expanding your vision. Unexpected life events, or experiences of “culture shock,” can prompt you to question just about everything. You’ll be in full investigative-reporter mode, releasing old assumptions and revising your beliefs in light of new

information. Just make sure it comes from sources you trust! Astrololgy.com

We had a very good

turnout for our Annual Book Bazar.

A fair few books now have a new home and there is some space on

the shelves for new ones.

If you missed the Bazar,

pop in the office any time during office

hours!

On the same day we farewelled our

colleague Steffi Fuhge.

Steffi worked at the

Welfare for more than 10 years.

We will miss her and wish her all the

very best for the future!
