BENEFITS OF A NATIONAL PROGRAM (cont..)
New products can be developed (i.e cover for excess, loss of no claims bonus for private cars towing boats).
Simplified process for lodging claims.
Opportunity to discuss insurance and risk management at National meetings.
Provides claims data that may assist with negotiations with local councils, waterways and property owners.
Allocation of premium can be done in a number of different ways.
Ability to review the insurance program with different mechanisms of insuring risk, i.e part self insurance to save costs.

DEFICIENCIES IN CURRENTINSURANCE PROGRAMWhen reviewing the cover in place for each State that has approached us, we have identified a number of deficiencies. We have assisted the States in restructuring their programs, increasing their cover and significantly reducing their premiums.
Premium Savings
Premium savings of approximately 30% have been achieved for each State insured with us.
Cover
Personal AccidentDeath and Capital Benefits limit too low at $50,000 or $75,000.We propose $100,000 for death and $250,000 for capital benefits
Public Liability & Professional IndemnityNo cover for molestation

Marine HullTrailers and non marine equipment and accessories incorrectly insured via this policy.
Motor vehicle liability is not covered by a Marine policy. Trailer Liability is covered by most personal motor vehicle policies, however restrictions can apply and it is difficult for each State to view each members policy before the club trailers are towed. We recommend a trailer policy to provide cover for negligence resulting in bodily injury / property damage in the event of a trailer becoming detached.
A state which we look after recently had a trailer liability claim, thankfully after we had corrected their cover
Non Marine Equipment and Accessories such as furniture, marquees, laptops etc currently incorrectly insured via the marine policy. Most marine policies limit the definition of equipment to marine related, i.e life jackets, timing equipment, radios etc.
We recommend a separate property policy for this items, which has the ability to cover items which are portable (i.e property taken to regattas or events).
Policy excess for paddles via our policy is $50, policies we have viewed have a $250 or $1,000 excess.

Association LiabilitySome policies cover the State only. Others cover all clubs but very costly and each club has to complete a proposal. We saved DBNSW approximately $11,000 for this class of insurance!
Key PointInstant savings could be achieved by AUSDBF effecting one Association Liability policy covering AUSDBF, all States and all Clubs for an approximate cost of $7,000. All States could arrange a refund on their current policy
Travel InsuranceAppears to be very adhoc. We recently assisted AUSDBF with their Group Travel Insurance.
We would recommend a National travel policy, which covers all National and State sanctioned trips

OTHER CURRENT TOPICS
•Review words on membership application (refer handout)
•Review and or speak to V-Insurance about the agreements you and your clubs may have with local councils and land owners.
- You may have agreed to indemnify the land owner for something that you do not have insured
18
WHAT NEXT? Each State can appoint V-Insurance now to take over your existing
insurance arrangements. That way we can start fixing things up immediately.
It would be advantageous if you have a common expiry date.
The preliminary stages of the implementation will involve capturing details from each State/Territory.
V-Insurance personnel to visit / contact each State/Territory.
V-Insurance to review information and report back to AUSDBF with recommendations.
Each State/Territory to join the National Program as and when their current policies fall due for renewal. The premium will be pro rated from the date joined to the common expiry date.
