The alternative teacher certification program allows individuals with a bachelor’s degree, and who are considering a career change with the desire to serve, the opportunity to become a classroom teacher.

Due to teacher shortages in certain certification areas, the high cost of college training, and limitations on college enrollment, the state of Texas created this alternative route for becoming a classroom teacher. Currently, over 50% of new teachers come from alternative programs.

Summer InstituteClasses are held Monday through Friday 8:45 – 4:30 with two night sessions.

EDTC 3004 Successful Teaching Practices - Teaching Internship 5 Sessions are held on Thursdays from 6-9 and Induction Training with mentor one
Saturday in September. As usual, attendance is mandatory!

• First year teacher intern and ACC supervisors working closely to identify and solve any questions and/or concerns
• Supervisor support with effective classroom strategies through problem solving sessions.

Application Process
1. Completed application with processing fee June 1- Sept 15 $60 Sept 16- Nov. 1 $80
2. ACC selection committee A review is made of applicant transcripts, references,
and resumes. Interviews are scheduled from June through November.
50 individuals are selected for cohort. Additional applicants are placed on a waiting list3. Final deadline for completed applications is November 1.
