Kentz Move to Premium Listing on London Stock Exchange

The past six months have been as challenging and exciting as ever at

Kentz, with good progress in our existing projects and new work across the global operations.

Kentz first worked internationally in 1977 – in Saudi Arabia – and we were delighted by the recent MEI award there of a US$34 million procurement, construction and commissioning contract with Bariq Mining. Kentz has a strong core competency in the mining and metals sector following many years of delivery in Africa, Australia and the Caribbean, and it is great to be transporting this capability into one of our earliest areas of operation.

Kentz has seen significant growth in Australia in the past couple of years, particularly in LNG projects. Last month, we signed a contract with Chevron Australia for the award of a US$2.3 billion Construction project on the Gorgon LNG project on Barrow Island, Western Australia, in an integrated joint venture with

CB&I. This is a great win for the team in Perth and promises significant local employment opportunities as we continue to build our Australian operations (pages 6 and 7).

At a corporate level, we have supplemented the team as well, with two significant

appointments during the summer. Chris Brown has joined Kentz as Group Chief Operating Officer based in London and Eddie Lewis takes up the role of Group Development Officer in the Houston office (page 25). They bring invaluable industry experience that is very complementary to our existing strong management team.

July 2011 marked another significant milestone for our Company as we graduated from the junior market to the Main Board of the London Stock Exchange (pages 4 and 5). In practice, this move will have little impact on our day-to-day operations, but it reflects the growth of Kentz since becoming public in 2008 and ranks us amongst our London-listed oil services peer group.

And last, but certainly not least, I would like to thank those clients, industry partners and executives who joined us for the third annual Kentz Safety Conference, held in Dubai earlier this year. As the industry moves into new areas of operations, the health,

safety and environmental challenges that we face require a collaborative approach to develop new initiatives. We were delighted by the enthusiasm of delegates to share experiences and expertise, which has allowed us to produce a set of ‘best practices to deliver safe projects in new areas of operation’. Please see details on page 10 and 11 if you would like to order a copy.

Wishing you all a safe and successful remainder of the year.

Dr. Hugh O’DonnellChief Executive Officer

Kentz in Australia was recently awarded a contract, in joint venture with CB&I,

for the mechanical, electrical and instrumentation work on the gorgon Project on Barrow Island, Western Australia.

The contract has been awarded to the CB&I Kentz JV by Chevron Australia and has an estimated value of US$2.3 billion. The contract scope includes the structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation and commissioning support for the construction of three LNG trains, with a total capacity 15 million tonnes per annum, including associated utilities and a domestic gas processing and compression plant. The work will be performed by CBI Kentz JV, an integrated joint venture between CB&I (65 per cent) and Kentz (35 per cent).

The contract will commence immediately and is scheduled to be completed in 2015. The contract will provide more than 1,650 jobs for construction personnel in Western Australia and there is potential for this number to grow.

Eoin Hurley, Chief Operating Officer, Construction, commented: “We are delighted that Chevron has selected the CB&I Kentz JV for this contract on the Gorgon Project, where Kentz already has two teams onsite executing services for this world-class facility. Kentz has built a strong track record in remote and challenging locations and we look forward to integrating with the CB&I team to deliver another safe and successful project.”

The Gorgon Project is operated by an Australian subsidiary of Chevron and is a joint venture of the Australian subsidiaries of Chevron (approximately 47 per cent), ExxonMobil (25 per cent), Shell (25 per cent), Osaka Gas (1.25 per cent), Tokyo Gas (one per cent) and Chubu Electric Power (0.417 per cent).

The project will develop the Greater Gorgon gas fields, located between 130km and 200km off the north-west coast of Western Australia. The Greater Gorgon gas fields, Australia’s largest-known gas resource, contain about 40 trillion cubic feet of gas.

US$33.6m Contract with Bariq Mining

Kentz in Saudi Arabia recently announced the award of a procurement,

construction and commissioning contract on the Jabal Sayid Copper Mine Project. The contract is worth in the order of US$33.6 million and was awarded to Kentz by Bariq Mining Limited.

Kentz’s scope of work encompasses the structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation works for Bariq Mining’s copper processing plant at its new copper mine at Jabal Sayid in

Western Saudi Arabia. The mine will produce copper concentrate with gold and silver credits.

It will be a fast track project, expected to take 10 months to achieve mechanical completion, eight of which involve construction. SNC Lavalin, for which Kentz has worked in the mining and metals sector for many years, is the Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management Contractor for the project. This will be the first time that SNC-Lavalin has worked with Kentz in Saudi Arabia.

Bariq Mining Limited is a subsidiary of Equinox Minerals Limited, based in Perth, Australia and listed on the Australian and Canadian bourses. Bariq Mining’s operating licence is the first one to be issued to the private sector by the Ministry of Petroleum and Minerals in Saudi Arabia and forms part of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing expansion of its mining and metals sector.

The project team will be headed up by Eddie Cremin, Country Construction Business Unit Manager; Tony McCarthy, Construction Business Unit Operations Manager; Warren Van Breda, Safety Manager; Paul Carroll, Construction Manager; Allan Duffy, Commercial Manager; Mark Walsh, Procurement Manager; and many other long-term employees within the Kentz organisation in Saudi Arabia.

Ross O’Muirthile, Country Manager of Saudi Arabia, commented: “Kentz is delighted to be working in association with Bariq Mining on the development of the mining and metals sector in Saudi Arabia. We have a strong core competency in the sector following many years of operation in Africa, Australia and the Caribbean and look forward to bringing this to bear on this fast-track project in Saudi Arabia.”

Delivering Safety, Security, Health and Environment (SSH&E) programmes in ‘New Areas’ is not simply a matter of ‘plugging and playing’ known systems and procedures; it requires a deeper level of cultural and community engagement, a greater bandwidth of leadership skills, and new boundaries of tolerance for ambiguity.

To open the forum, Kentz was honoured to welcome Jim Flood, Vice President Arctic/Eastern Canada, ExxonMobil, as the guest speaker at the gala dinner. Jim spoke passionately about his personal SSH&E journey and the lessons he has learned along the way, which set the tone for the following day’s session.

The conference kicked off with an opening welcome from Hugh O’Donnell, Chief Executive Officer of Kentz, who laid out the agenda for the day: to establish a set of best practices that could be implemented to deliver the best and safest projects in new areas of operation.

James Cassin, Group QHSE Manager, elaborated on this theme: “Kentz has delivered a consistently good safety record over recent years, but it is constantly searching for new ways to further improve its safety performance and to achieve working environments with zero incidents and accidents. As the industry moves into new areas of operations, the HSE challenges that face us require collaboration to develop new approaches and new initiatives.”

The keynote speaker for the day was Scott Young, Gorgon Development Director, Chevron. Scott spoke about their journey towards Creating a New Australian Safety Health and Environment Culture on Barrow Island. He described the proactive approach Chevron has taken to create an incident and injury free (IIF) culture on the Barrow Island project. This IIF culture has led to a solid HSE performance.

Other presenters included: Tommy Drumm, Senior Project Director, Kentz; Peter Bennett, Vice-President Operations, Europe Africa Middle East, CB&I; Steven Durant, Project Manager, Technical Support Services, Kentz; Eoin Hurley, Chief Operating Officer Construction, Kentz and Einar

Gjestrum, Vice-President HSE, Aker Solutions.

That afternoon a panellist session featured speakers from across the industry, each of whom looked at a specific area in the industry. Leon van Schalkwyk, Senior Corporate HSES Manager, Chiyoda Corporation; Dr. Keith Morris, Director of Research, Oil & Gas Services Sectors, Evolution Securities; Rob Munster, Vice-President HSSE/SD, Qatar Shell GTL; and Rob Sherwin, Managing Director, Regester Larkin Middle East, participated in the lively discussion.

With much food for thought, delegates then broke into groups for the afternoon session. Each break-out group was asked for their thoughts on best practices for SSH&E Leadership in New Areas. A booklet containing these best practices will soon be available across all offices.

Kentz would like to extend a big thank you to all delegates for their input and who, in taking the time to attend the conference, demonstrated genuine commitment to Health and Safety.

Sincere thanks also to the organising team who worked together including Regina Byrne, Mairéad Roche and Fiona Keating.

If you would like to receive a copy of the ‘Best practices to deliver safe projects in new areas of operation’ please contact Mairéad Roche ([email protected]).

Sasol Success Chayvo-Coffer Dam Project

Kentz in South Africa is pleased to announce the award of the US$47 million

Gas-Heated Heat Exchange Reformer (GHHER) contract by Sasol at its Secunda facility in South Africa.

Kentz’s scope of work includes the structural steel, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and piping (SMEIP) installation on the project. In addition, Kentz will be responsible for the management of the Fluor warehouse, from where all the free issue materials will be dispensed.

The GHHER forms part of Sasol’s overall expansion plan to make improvements and replacements in line with environmental regulation and requirements. The GHHER uses waste heat from the reforming process and reforms additional natural gas used to make fuel. Therefore, nothing goes to waste and Sasol minimises its carbon emissions. Kentz is playing a valuable part in various areas of the expansion, including the building of Sasol’s new HF (sulphuric acid) Alkylation plant and the modular fabrication for its US$1 billion wax expansion plant.

Joseph Keogh, Business Unit Manager, Construction, Southern Africa commented: “Congratulations to the team on this award, which demonstrates the ongoing confidence that both Fluor and Sasol have in Kentz. We are proud to contribute towards energy-efficient processes that have a positive impact on the quality of the world’s environment”

In early 2011, Kentz in Russia officially signed a contract with Van Oord Offshore BV, a Dutch Offshore Industry

Company for the Chayvo-Coffer Dam Project (CVO). The Coffer Dam construction is to facilitate the installation of two pipelines for the new Arkutun Dagi Drill Rig to be installed in late 2012 to early 2013, located approximately 25km offshore.

Kentz’s scope of work includes facilities support to Van Oord, excavation and backfill operations for the Coffer Dam construction and pipe installation, as well as assistance with the pipe pull operations and shore protection construction.

The Chayvo-Coffer Dam is owned by Exxon Neftegas Limited (ENL) and is located directly south of the Onshore Wellsite Facility at Chayvo, which is part of Sakhalin-1Project based on the North of Sakhalin Island.

The Kentz team, headed by Paul van der Waag, Site Manager and Ted O’Farrell, Construction Manager, commenced work on the project in February and the planned completion date is early October 2011.

The EPC Business Unit of Kentz in South Africa recently completed the

engineering, installation and re-location of vehicle training units for BMW South Africa.

This full multi-discipline project, comprising structural, electrical and control system design, was awarded to the EPC division, based in Vanderbijlpark, in October 2010.

The scope of work included the design of a new structure comprising cat-ladders and walk-ways for the re-installation of BMW’s vehicle tilter training unit. The unit, weighing 10 tonnes, was engineered and installed and the complete control system had to be re-engineered to the latest BMW standards and specifications.

The second phase of the project included the re-location and refurbishment of two vehicle lifter units. The units, weighing 15 tonnes each, were demolished in one section of the plant and re-located to the new training facility. A cat ladder and walk-ways to allow access to the control panels were also designed, fabricated and installed. The complete

lifter unit was re-wired to ensure operation through local control pendants.

The tilter unit will be used to train new personnel who will be involved in the manufacturing of the new BMW 3-Series to be launched in 2012. The BMW Plant Rosslyn South Africa was awarded the contract to build painted BMW 3-Series bodies for export to India in 2010. The plant is now also able to build BMW 3-Series xDrive all-wheel drive vehicles, increasing its potential export volume to Canada and the United States in the process.

The R1million project was completed successfully, within budget and on time in April 2011. Project Manager, Cobus Raubenheimer, says the manpower of the project peaked at 15 and took a total of 4,000 man-hours. As always, the health and safety of the employees was a core concern and Cobus was happy to report no lost time incidents on the project.

Kentz recently sponsored the Oil Council World Oilfield Services

and Engineering Assembly, held on 29th and 30th of June in London. The Assembly delivered insight into how the current financial, economic and investment landscapes are interacting with the oil and gas industry. In addition, it gave attendees a chance to discuss business challenges and opportunities that are present in the industry today and are expected in the future.

Participants included a group of senior industry leaders from oil and gas companies and oilfield service providers, as well as investment banks, brokers and consultancies. A strong speaker line-up included executives from Aker Solutions, Petrofac, Petrobras, Slumberger, Wood Group, as well as our own Chief Executive Officer, Hugh O’Donnell.

On the first day of the Assembly, Hugh joined a panel discussion entitled New Frontiers, New Services, New Customers,

New Challenges and New Ideas. He spoke about Kentz’s strong partnering culture and its strategy of delivering projects for blue-chip clients in more remote locations around the world. He outlined Kentz’s global reach of resources and experience with core clients and the importance of teaming up with local companies in order to import that into new areas of operation to deliver the same quality, full-service solution. Partnerships help Kentz to share local expertise and experience in project delivery and it has a number of agreements across

its regions of operations from Russia, the Caribbean and the Middle East to Australia.

Later that day, Kentz sponsored a cocktail reception at which Hugh welcomed guests with a highly-entertaining talk on the challenges, areas and partners he has worked with during his tenure at Kentz. It was a great evening and provided an excellent opportunity for delegates to reflect on the conference and to network with the rest of the group.

The Kentz Moatize Project Support Team in Mozambique recently reached the

fantastic milestone of 4.5 million Lost Time Injury-free (LTI) man-hours.

This is a new record achievement for Kentz in Africa, with the previous record being 3.75 million LTI-free man-hours achieved on Phase1 of the Moma Minerals Sands project in Mozambique.

Kentz commenced work on the Moatize Coal Project in Mozambique in January 2010. Its scope of work includes structural (steel), mechanical,

electrical, instrumentation and piping erection work for the coal processing plant. The project is being developed by Vale, a global mining company headquartered in Brazil. This is Vale’s first greenfield project in Africa and will be one of the largest coal mining projects anywhere in the world.

The team, spearheaded by Bouke Kooiker, were pleased to see the first coal being dropped at the primary crusher on 21st July and transported to Bin 3. After the initial 80 tonnes, 1,600 tonnes were processed the following day. The coal went through a delicate process at the coal preparation plant

Building B on 23rd July, finally reaching Stacker 1 and landing on a stockpile.

Joseph Keogh, Business Unit Manager, Construction, Southern Africa, commented, “Thank you to each and every company and their employees who made this excellent safety achievement possible and thank you to our client Vale for their ongoing ZERO tolerance support. Well done to Bouke Kooiker, Fabian Jordaan, Dederick Hattingh and the team. We must strive to maintain this sterling effort and complete the project without any harm to our people”

Like many industries, ours is one where the strongest relationships are based on trust and mutual respect. Confidence in delivering the job comes first and foremost, but we also chose to work with companies we like.

The development of key relationships with clients, suppliers and joint venture partners is not something that has been widely researched for our industry and yet it is growing ever more important as we are examined closely by the outside world.

In 2009, Kentz underwent a transformation from regional hubs of operation into three Global Business Units reflecting our three business lines; specialist Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) solutions, Construction and Technical Support Services (TSS) solutions.

This organisational structure reflected the way clients were sourcing our services and facilitated the sharing of Business Unit expertise and resources across the world. It also made the sharing of skills and experience across the Group much more efficient, both in terms of engineering, labour and equipment.

Essential to the success of this re-organisation has been the Country and Regional Management. They form a key point of contact in business development and relationship building with our clients, as well as managing the relationships with partners and suppliers in their area of operation.

Kentz takes a pragmatic approach to business development. It is impossible to underestimate the importance of relationships and, as such, our senior management are travelling more than ever to meet the demands of a globalised business. However, we also see the importance of having the very best business development people on the ground, both from technical and business backgrounds. The role encompasses all three of our Business Units

across all business sectors and requires constant engagement throughout the project life cycle.

Kentz’s strategy historically has been to follow key clients globally in order to minimise risk and maximise the opportunities to work with companies which know and trust Kentz.

Once a project enters the execution phase it is crucial to maintain the relationship with a client and other contractors right through the whole life

cycle of the project. Close and constant co-operation with the operations teams from within the Business Units is valuable throughout the project to ensure knowledge and information on how the project is proceeding is shared.

Communication is essential both externally and internally and arguably it is becoming more so due to the globalisation of the industry as a whole.

There has been much written in the area of relationship marketing and most of the available research examines the relationship between the brand and service offering of a company. Much of the theory surrounding relationship marketing in the professional services industry is equally true of the oil services industry in

which Kentz operates. Issues such as building trust and gaining commitment from a client as a result of that trust are key areas to examine and transcend industries through their importance.

Where strong relationships are in place, the speed at which a service can be engaged and executed is significantly improved. This certainly holds true for Kentz where we deliver early facilities and scopes at the front-end of both mega and smaller resource projects. Once the critical project phase is reached, things may move quite rapidly.

Kentz believes its relationships are supported by consistent project performance and also from its very strong retention of people; senior management

have on average 18 years of service with the Company. The requirement of having trained and educated sales and business development professionals has become ever more important to support the process.

We also have strong corporate values of Safety, Teamwork and Reputation. These have been in place for a number of years and are inherent to everything we do, as well as aligning with many of our clients’ and partners’ core values. Kentz’s focus is on retaining relationships with core clients and winning repeat business with companies we know and like to work with.

The ultimate goal of relationship building and management is partnerships involving

successful project delivery, mutual trust, commitment and respect, leading to more business between Kentz and its clients, growth in line with targets and goals and a continuation of Kentz’s strong performance year-on-year.

Hats off to Phemelo

Phemelo Kajane, Crane Driver for Kentz on the Jwaneng Cut 8 Diamond Mine

Project in Botswana, recently won the quarterly Gold Hat Safety Award. Phemelo was originally employed by Kentz as a Boilermaker on site and went on to do on-site training and learned to drive a Kentz 30-ton Mobile Crane on site.

His overall contribution towards Safety is exemplary; Phemelo was not only rewarded for operating the crane safely but also for participating in housekeeping, barricading, contributing to Daily Safety Task Analyses, tool box talks and reporting any unsafe behaviour or conditions that may occur on site. Part of the criteria for Gold Hat Champion is also based on attendance record.

In addition, the Jwaneng Cut 8 Diamond Mine site has won Safety Contractor of the Month Award on two occasions. The award was presented by Fluor and is a great achievement for the team.

Safety System Recognised

On 29th July 2011, Kentz in Canada completed its audit process successfully

and received its Certificate of Recognition (COR) from the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA), the accumulation of many months of hard work by the Kentz staff in Canada.

In order to achieve the certificate, a company employee must complete a series of courses run by the ACSA. Grant Wilson, Project HSE Manager completed the courses on behalf of Kentz, and assumed the responsibility of ensuring a workable ACSA-recognised HSE programme was installed within the company. ACSA requires a HSE working system to run efficiently on a project site for at least 12 months and this was successfully achieved on the Kearl Initial Development (KID) E&I utilities project.

To conclude the process, the Kentz office in Calgary and the project site office were audited by an external certified auditor.

ACSA members include most major oil and gas operators and companies in Alberta. The certificate will have a positive influence on how Kentz is perceived by potential clients, as all pre-qualification documents submitted require a company’s COR status.

Continuous improvement will be measured by ACSA throughout the years through internal audits and external audits by ACSA.

Congratulations to all the employees of Kentz in Canada for obtaining this important certificate.

SUpportinG SpeCiAl needS

In conjunction with sasol, Kentz recently donated a vehicle to the Marietjie school for children with

special needs in secunda, south Africa. the vehicle will assist in transporting the children to and from their homes, as few of the pupils can afford a contribution and depend on the school for transport.

Pat Cass, Regional Marketing and Public Relations Executive, and Jason English, Technical Support Services (TSS) Site Manager, Secunda, attended a handover ceremony in April 2011. The donation was a result of the support initiative to the school that began in 2010, when the school approached local companies for assistance in the upkeep of their teaching facilities. Sasol, together with many local companies, came to their aid, with Kentz offering to provide critical electrical maintenance to the buildings. The vehicle required much attention and Sasol offered to assist through a voluntary employee programme; they repaired and re-sprayed the vehicle prior to the handover.

The school provides opportunities to students between the ages of three and 21 and currently has 247 pupils. Life skills, perceptual motor and communication skills, as well as literacy and numeracy, take priority. Middle and senior pupils are also taught crafts including needlework, woodwork, welding, computer skills, cookery, car washing and gardening activities.

The gardening is very important to the pupils as it empowers them to grow their own vegetables, teaching them to be self-sufficient by providing food for themselves and their families. This activity also provides additional income for the school feeding scheme by selling the vegetables and seedlings. Conservation is a high priority at the school and for the second consecutive year, the school has received the highest national award for an Eco-school project.

“Kentz is delighted to be a part of this worthwhile initiative; it is a very sad but real situation the teachers of this school are dealing with. It is heart-breaking to see the many difficulties so many children have to live with. Spending one day at this school will make one realise how lucky we are, and it is great to be able to be a part of this” said Jason English, TSS Site Manager, Secunda.

Kevin McHugh, a navan man, and Larry Mulligan from Mullingar, embarked on the challenge on 19th August 2010 and cycled a total of 28,000 km since leaving Dublin.

Eoin grew up in Ardee, Co.Louth, Ireland, and has been living in Perth for the past three years. He decided to join two of his Irish friends on the last three legs of their round-the-world trip on wheels in aid of the Irish Cancer Society (ICS).

Kevin McHugh, a Navan man, and Larry Mulligan from Mullingar, embarked on the challenge on 19th August 2010 and cycled a total of 28,000 km since leaving Dublin.

After Eoin joined the team at the end of February, the three friends cycled from Melbourne to Cairns, Santiago in Chile to Buenos Aires, Argentina and then north to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, and finally from

Casablanca in Morocco to Dublin, Ireland via Spain and France. The group arrived on Grafton Street in Dublin on 1st July to a welcoming party after a number of testing months on the road.

It was a difficult challenge both physically and mentally, but overall it was a very positive experience for the guys, who saw many exotic places and met excellent people along the way. North Leinster radio station LMFM and The Irish Sun and other local media covered the final leg of the gruelling trip.

The Kentz office in Perth made a generous donation to this worthy cause and also provided the team with their

cycling gear. In addition to this, funds were also raised for the charity through a casual five-a-side soccer tournament and a morning tea party where a further AUD 11,548.00 was collected in Perth. The overall goal was to raise €50,000 for the charity which is close to the hearts of all the lads, with each of them having family experience of cancer.

The final amount raised came to in excess of €32,000, however there is still money coming in and you can still donate at the following web address:http://www.mycharity.ie/event/eoin_mccartneys_event/

Eoin McCartney, Estimator for Kentz based in the Perth Office, Western Australia, recently took four months off work to take part in a charity cycle that saw him travel over 12,000 km from Melbourne to Dublin.

On 1st June 2011, Kentz-OJ’s E&I Services Joint Venture (JV)

achieved its Safe TO Work in Trinidad & Tobago (STOW-TT) Certification for High Risk Level work.

STOW-TT is a new initiative in Trinidad & Tobago aimed at encouraging service contractors to develop and promote the widespread use of internationally acceptable industry-wide HSE standards and performance, with particular reference to small and medium enterprises. The intent of the proactive HSE Management System is to improve the general HSE performance across the industry.

The Trinidad and Tobago Energy Chamber implemented STOW-TT in collaboration with the South Trinidad Chamber of Industry and Commerce (STCIC), the Association of Upstream Operators of Trinidad & Tobago (AUOTT) and the Point Lisas Energy Association (PLEA). The Government of Trinidad and Tobago, through the Ministry of Labour, the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Authority and the Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards, continuously supports STOW-TT.

The ultimate expectation is that local service contractors will have a greater probability of winning contracts with the major oil and gas companies in Trinidad & Tobago. Contractors who achieve this certification will gain preference above non-certified companies at Contract Reviews and Awards.

Congratulations to the Kentz-OJ’s Management and HSE Team on this achievement.
