INTRODUCTORY NOTES

St JtL Cycle of PrayerA cycle of prayer helps us each to maintain our promises as Christians to pray

for one another, the church, the world and our local community. This is not a list of particular intercessions requests but of general themes. We cycle through the congregation each month and through each church in the diocese every

two months.In the tables that follow prayer intentions appear in the following order each day. The intentions are separated by semi-colons.

Our Church; Members of the Congregation; Wider Church; Penicuik; Wider world; Those in need. Please pray for Bishop John each day.

Daily Bible VerseRev’d Lynsay has chosen one verse from the readings set for each day that you might like to mull on or use with the short form of prayer. The full forms of SEC Daily prayer with readings can be found at: http://www.scotland.anglican.org under the Spirituality tab.

Our Father…Please use the version of the Lord’s Prayer that you are most familiar with. The SEC currently uses this translation:

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.Do not bring us to the time of trial, but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours,now and for ever. Amen.

GROWING TOGETHER EUCHARIST

THE DISMISSALGive thanks to the Lord, for he is gracious.And his mercy endures for ever.To a troubled world

peace from Christ. To a searching world love from Christ. To a waiting world hope from Christ.

3

Opening O God who reaches out to us, circle our hearts, centre our minds, still our bodies, be present to us now. Amen.

Canticle, from Psalm 51 Behold God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid;

the Lord God is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.

Give thanks to the Lord, call upon his name; make known his deeds among the nations. Sing to the Lord for he has done gloriously; let this be known in all the earth.

Shout and sing for joy, O inhabitant of Sion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.Glory to the Father and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;

as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen.

Bible Reading(s)

Prayers of intercession concluding with : Lord, have mercy.

Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

Gracious God, you hold all heaven and earth in your hands, mercifully hear the prayers we offer. Grant to our community all that we need to be the people you call us to be in this place. Give grace to those who minister your holy word and sacraments. Strengthen and increase the faithful. Protect and guide Penicuik’s children. Comfort and relieve all who are sick or afflicted in any way. Stir-up the care-less, recover the fallen, restore the penitent. Remove all barriers to the coming of your kingdom and bring us all to be of one heart and mind within the fold of your holy church, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Our Father…

To a troubled world: peace from Christ. To a searching world: love from Christ. To a waiting world: hope from Christ.

Amen.

SATURDAY 2ND SEPTEMBER 10.30AM-2.30PM GROWING TOGETHER ROADSHOW AT ST PETER’S LUTTON PLACE

Come and join in the on-going journey at this roadshow; be encouraged in your faith, hear stories of God’s work across the area, and contribute to the discernment of our vision and priorities. Every member of our diocese is invited to be part of this adventure as we continue to explore what God is calling us to be and do, at this time for this generation. Our hope is that this process of Growing Together will help us all develop stronger relationships, deeper faith and a greater confidence in witnessing to Christ.

One of our priorities is to engage with people of all generations, so for those in the young age group Claire Benton-Evans, our Youth and Children Officer, has designed some great activities.

We are delighted to announce that Child Care will be available at this Roadshow for those under 12, but you will need to book in before 27th August.

Rev’d Jim Benton Evans, the Rector at Peebles, is inseparable from his ukulele. It has become an integral part of his ministry as he teaches children how to play, invites other musicians to join him at the St Andrew’s sessions in Innerleithen and then went on to write an album on Sabbatical.

His acoustic, folk-pop take on life will be coming to St James the Less for us to enjoy on …

He’ll also include some well known songs so that those of you who enjoy singing can join in.

Tickets will be £5/head. (Children go free) This is a fundraiser for St James the Less, Jim is making no charge, but will bring some of his CDs along, should you wish to buy one.
