on Boston's North Shore
AUGUST & SEPTEMBER 2012
BIRDS OF A FEATHER (SHOW FLICKS TOGETHER)Cape Ann Community Cinema and CinemaSalem join forces for the (un)common good
Cape Ann Community Cinema in Gloucester and
CinemaSalem in Salem – the two coolest independent cinemas
on Boston's North Shore – have joined forces to promote their
respective line-ups of alternative cinematic programming.
“It's a natural for us,” notes Cape Ann Community
Cinema's creative director, Robert Newton, “considering that
CinemaSalem provided us with some of the inspiration to open
our theater in the first place.”
“We're always sending patrons to each other anyway,”
says CinemaSalem's manager, Kereth Cowe-Spigai. “Now it's
official – we are 'sister cinemas.'”
The single-screen, living room-style Cape Ann
Community Cinema opened in 2008, and the 4-screen miniplex
CinemaSalem was launched in 2006 on the site of the former
Patriot Cinemas. In August 2012, the CACC opened a second
screen called Film Haven at 11 Pleasant Street in Gloucester.
Both entities are acclaimed by patrons and press alike,
with the famous CACC supporter Liv Ullmann saying of her
home-away-from-home, “Bergman would have loved this
place!”, and CinemaSalem's patron base voting it “Best North
Shore Movie Theater.” • • •
