Dear AAES Families,

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year!

On behalf of the faculty and staff members at AAES, I

would like to welcome your child(ren) back for another

exciting school year. Although reading and math are

important, helping a child develop his/her interests and

voice is equally important. Each child will get to explore more in our elective and resources classes and

project-based learning (PBL) projects in their homeroom. Ask your child what he/she is learning and doing in all his/

her classes.

At the end of 2018-19, a number of staff said goodbye to August Ahrens. There were retirements, transfers and an

out of state move. After full teaching careers, Mrs. Endo (K), Mrs. Aczon (1st), Mrs. Au (1st), Mr. Dao (1st), Ms.

Nakamoto (2nd), Mrs. Kawamura (2nd), Ms. Cullen (3rd), Mrs. Olboc (EL) and Mrs. Yamamura (Special Education)

retired. Ms. Canon is now a vice-principal at Pearl City High School and Mr. Padayhag is serving as a vice-principal

at Kalihi Kai. Ms. Aguirre moved to Alaska. We wish them well in their new pursuits.

Please join me in welcoming our new AAES faculty. Our new teachers are (by grade level): K; Ms. Angelica

Concepcion, Ms. Jenny Young; 1st: Ms. Jodie Young, Mrs. Priscilla Malunao, Mrs. Chelsea Oho; 2nd: Ms. Cathleen

Kuang, Mrs. Justina Lagmay; 3rd: Ms. Megan Fabro-Mariano; 5th: Ms. Caroline Tone; Special Education: Mr. Kyle Lau,

Ms. Airen Miraflor; EL: Mrs. Maribeth Paiva. Joining our staff as administrators are Vice Principals: Mr. Ronie Martinez

and Mr. Jed Kutaka.

On behalf of AAES Ohana I would like express our gratitude to Senator Clarence Nishihara and Representative Henry

Aquino for their effort to secure nearly two million dollars to upgrade our school’s electrical infrastructure. It should be

finished by the end of the school year and will allow for more air conditioned classrooms and better technology

integration.

Thank you to the PTO for its fundraising to support school programs and resources. There are four PTO events planned

for this school year: Movie night #1 (8/9/19), movie night #2 (12/6/19), Turkey Trot (11/20/19), and Dr. Seuss Fun Run

(3/4/20). Please come out to support the PTO to support our school.

Finally, we would like to remind you of the McGivern school fundraiser starting on September 6. The opening

pep-rally will happen the first week of September and tickets will be sent home. We are only doing one baked goods

school fundraiser this year and we ask you to help us as we continue our cool school, air conditioning expansion

program. The more we make, the cooler we can be!

We would like to recognize every member of the AAES Ohana for working hard and faithfully servicing our students,

families, and community. We have only a finite amount of time to educate every child and prepare him/her for a

changing, challenging world. Therefore, we need to continue to work together to provide students with the

knowledge, skills, and disposition to be college and career ready.

Again, thank you for your continued support of AAES! Together we

will ASPIRE, ADAPT, EXCEL and SERVE for each of our children.

PTO Corner Aloha and Welcome Back AAES Ohana,

Summer went by so quickly, but as a parent I'm glad the kids are back in school. I'm sure they are also

happy behind the groans in the morning as you wake them up for school.

Our first event went off very well. Friday's 8/9/2019 "Ugly Dolls" Movie Night was a fun filled evening, but it

couldn't be done without our volunteers. Parents, teachers and students worked together and created a

great evening that benefit the school, students and teachers.

We are asking for your help. We need approximately 20 volunteers for each event so that we can ensure

the events success. To grant everyone enough time please look at the dates above and reach out to

volunteer for one of these dates. Since we have nearly 1300 students, I'm sure some of you have the

ability to help us out.

Please contact us at: [email protected] or message us via our Instagram page

@aaespto to let us know you can volunteer.

Let's do this to ensure our kids and teachers have the facilities and resources to succeed!

supports the school’s efforts in preparing our

students for dream job/profession.

Examples of support:

dinner. Book giveaways take place here, as well as at our school book fairs.

Resources:

You can locate books and ebooks through The August Ahrens Elementary School Library

Media Center’s website. This website is linked to our school’s website. Go to the Academics
