About APRA

The Automotive Parts Remanufacturers Association began as a small group of rebuilders in California, and it did not take long for APRA to become active for its members. On April 2, 1942, three representatives from APRA went to testify before Congress on behalf of the tax on rebuilt auto parts: Meredith M. Daubin, Albert D. Goldman, and A. S. Holzwas-ser. The three men encouraged the House of Representatives to clarify the act of manufacturing vs. remanufacturing, and thus rule that the auto repair tax is only for newly manufactured auto parts and cannot be applied to remanufac-tured parts.

Today, APRA has hundreds of members that remanufacture a wide variety of automotive, heavy duty, industrial and agricultural parts. APRA creates an environment where members network and learn from one another as well as pro-tects the rights of our members in the remanufacturing sector.

As the industry has evolved over the past many decades, APRA is proud to have served it’s members for over 75 years. APRA is the Voice of Remanufacturing, and getting stronger all the time!

After twenty years of supporting the PAACE Automechanika trade show in Mexico City, APRA is proud to be co-locating with NACE Automechanika right here in Atlanta.

In an effort to provide real benefits to our members, APRA is committed to working with other industry associations and trade organizations that promote and enhance the Automotive Parts Remanufacturing business. Good partners are crucial.

It has been said “you get out of something what you put into it.” It takes a good vision coupled with commitment and execution to be successful. After all, who wants to board a bus with no destination in mind, no matter how comfortable the seat. There are usually no shortcuts. Sometimes the road you start out on is not the road you stay on. Being flexible and adaptable can be valuable as we navigate challenging situations designed to act as roadblocks in our quest towards accomplishment.

I ask each APRA member to consider where the future of the organization is going, where would you like it to go and what are you willing to put into helping us all get there. Direction is important. Effort is needed. Leadership is vital.

I would like to personally thank all of you, our members who have loyally supported APRA over the years. A lot has changed since 1941 when APRA was born. Change is inevitable and in most cases, desirable. We as an organization will continue to be flexible and adaptable as we develop and refine our vision forward.

So sit back and enjoy the ride. Better yet, take a turn at the wheel if you are so inclined.
