I paint with encaustic, which allows me to slow down my thoughts and reflect inward. My materials include beeswax, powder pigments, oil and tree resin. Fire is my preferred paintbrush. My paintings are about human emotions—fears, anxieties and self-doubt. The imagery is rooted in abstracted nature; about what lies beneath and what floats above, with an emphasis on where the two meet.
DIRECTIONS: 5 miles north of Coupeville, turn onto Hastie Lake Road. Follow that through several 90 degree turns and a straightaway. Turn left. 1739 Hastie Lake Road

I mentored with my grandfather on Cape Cod as a child and am proud to carry on the family business of scenic photography. My work is an amalgamation from a lifetime of observing nature and the human form. I am particularly interested in making work that provokes thought as well as creating a sense of mystery. The wood fire process promotes that sense of mystery through the surfaces achieved by heat, flame pattern, and ash.3

I choose beautiful pieces of wood to use in creating products that are both functional and artistic whether I am building a furniture piece or a guitar, I let the character of the wood shine through. My other work is eclectic as I design and construct pieces that allow me to explore my creative process.

When I see a visually enticing scene I reach for my brushes to express the joy it gives me. Color and texture are featured prominently in my work, whether I’m using thin, glowing washes of watercolor, or thick, buttery oil, to create expressive paintings of landscapes, animals, and flowers.

Cook on Clay pots are made with ”flameproof” clay formulated to withstand extreme temperatures. Our pots can go directly from the refrigerator to a hot oven and back again without cracking. They are perfect for the grill, and some of our pots are designed specifically for use on the stovetop. All of our pots are built for durability and performance. We make pots to celebrate cooking and eating.

I build porcelain pottery. The pottery’s defining lines and soft planes are geometric and sensual, elegant and animated, architectural and organic. At the table I connect studio practice to living. I want my pots to live in the kitchen where economy and celebration infuse life with purposeful beauty.

I paint with dyes on a silk canvas. I love to blend pattern with picture in order to express the essence and energy of the place, or form, and using resist in silk painting gives a unique character. Whether I’m painting landscapes of the US or Europe, or anything else, I hope to be able to convey the joy I experience in witnessing life, in harnessing an idea, communicating the experience, and share the sense of awe and discovery I feel, wherever I am.

I try to see the unseen in the commonplace that surrounds us every day and to follow the thoughts of Ernst Hass: “If there is nothing to see, yet you see it – that is poetry. If there is something to see, and everybody sees it – that is observation. But if you can make something out of nothing and make everybody see it – that is poetry in photography.”

I am a self-taught weaver with 35 years of experience behind me. I design and weave fine textiles for personal wear and the home, using exclusively natural fibers (tencel, bamboo, cotton, rayon, silk, and occasionally mohair and merino wool), many dyed by master dyers in North Carolina and California. Rich color, complex patterns, and interesting textures characterize my distinctive pieces, woven on two computer-assisted looms. I welcome commission orders.

Employing an impressionist, direct style with a fascination for radiant and rich color, I approach each painting as a puzzle, allowing the piece to develop in color and mood as the painting unfolds on the two dimensional surface. Creating layers of texture and depth of place, I strive to engage the viewer, drawing them into a world of tranquil beauty.

I am inspired by all types of stone. I feel each stone has its own story to tell and the carving process is about discovering that story. I love to work with the natural essence of the stone while I find forms that communicate patterns of nature and the fluidity of movement.

I have been a colorist and plein air oil painter for thirty years. I paint directly from nature—completing and signing my works in the field. My paintings are not pictures, they are aesthetic records. To me, color is the essence of painting and the primary conveyor of mood. My work is expressive and painterly and the paint surface is a landscape of its own. Nature is my studio.

I make a variety of glass and clay and mixed media. Much of my work is based upon ancient art. I have been making ceramic goddesses and shrines. There are also glass vessels with winged glass paddles. There will be a variety of art work and styles. I will also be signing my various books. “The Little House that Grew” and “Thoughts”.

Welcome to my busy studio where I hand make sculptural and functional ceramics. I love the drips of wood ash that come from a three day firing of our Anagama wood kiln as well as bright colors and crystals that form in gas kiln firings. Making
pottery is my joy and my therapy, but the best part is sending my pots off to new homes where they can be used and enjoyed.
My work is primarily figurative, and often inspired by a vintage photo or postcard. The paintings are embellished with decorative papers, fabrics, jewelry, bits of nature - or anything that catches my fancy. Stylistically, my artwork is illustrative and influenced by the iconography of the Byzantine Era.
