Scripture Insights

If there is one common characteristic associated with entrance into the Kingdom of God in references by the great Hebrew prophets and the teachings of Je-sus, it is its unpredictability. In the First Reading from Isaiah and in the Gospel, the surprise of the Kingdom of God is the difference between who is in-cluded and who could be excluded. Isaiah describes the gathering of “nations of every language” who come to see the glory of the Lord. But the nations named are not part of the chosen people of Israel. They represent pagan peoples who have not heard of the “fame” of the Lord; yet they are destined to proclaim the glory of the Lord. The salvation of God will be universal; it will not belong to one nation or people but be offered to everyone. The teaching of Jesus in the Gospel echoes this new understanding. Those who thought they would be allowed into the home of the master because they had some casual acquaintance with him will be dis-appointed when others may enter and they are turned away. Being part of the master’s household requires more than a social relationship. Although the invitation to the Kingdom of God is freely given, our response to such a gift cannot be a smugness that we deserved it and others did not. In other teachings Jesus will give many examples of how his followers ought to live in response to the promise of the Fa-ther’s favor. The author of Hebrews speaks of paying attention to

“the discipline of the Lord.” The word discipline does not mean “punishment,” but rather “wise in-

struction”-even “healing.” Just as a son or daughter pays attention to a parent’s discipline, so the follow-

er of Christ attends to his teachings in order to attain the “peaceful fruit of righteousness.”

How do you understand the phrase, “some are last

who will be first, and some are first who will be last?”

Whom do you think Christians sometimes exclude from the Kingdom of God?

How could our parish be more inclusive?

Eucharistic Adoration: We are all called to be Holy. As we have learned in the Re-discovering Catholicism book, holy is not a limiting thing. Rather, holy is a pure freedom to be best-version-of-our selves. This is something that we can only be with the help of God's grace. The Saints and our Holy Father, Pope Francis show us that that ado-ration of the Blessed Sacrament can be instrumen-tal in helping us keep Jesus in the center of our lives. Adoration every Fri. 9am to 7pm.

FIRST FRIDAYS

Every First Friday of the month we will have 8:30 a.m. Mass and ado-ration to follow until 6:30 p.m. with Solemn Blessing of the Blessed Sacrament and Pro-Life Mass. This new Mass will give the faithful a chance to receive communion ei-ther Mass in order to observe this devotion. The other Fridays of the month we will extend the exposi-tion of the Blessed Sacrament un-til 7:00 p.m.

Go out to all the world and tell the Good News.

We will begin a new year in RCIA on September 7th at 7:00 pm in the conference room of the Church office. We would like to invite you to attend this process if you are interested in joining the Church or if you are already in communion with us and have questions about things you may not fully understand. Perhaps we can answer some of your questions. Please feel free to join us. Please feel free to join us. For information, please call, Aloise Martin or Sherrie Nicolet 883-4901 440-4175

MODESTY Q. Does modesty mean I have to wear a moo-moo? Please don't wear a moo-moo! Modesty does not mean you have to wear over-sized sweatpants and a sweatshirt everyday, nor does it mean that there is anything bad about your body. It is easy to think, "If I'm confident with my body and think I'm beau-

tiful shouldn't I show it off by wearing clothing that accents my best assets?" Well, I can see why you Might think this way but it is has been my experience that the most confident person doesn't need to 'show-it-off'. They know they look good and can rest in the peace of that knowledge without having to dress in a revealing way. Revealing clothing speaks a language of low self-esteem and poor self-confidence because I need other people to see me, or I need other people to know that I think I look good. Aside from being vain, it is just unat-tractive! Modesty on the other hand speaks a language of confi-dence! You know you are beautiful, precious, and loved and you don't need anyone else to tell you that! You dress in a way that covers your most feminine as-sets, but accents your personality with fun color, pat-tern, or design depending on your personality. Your dress is suppose to compliment the beauty of your heart and soul and be an invitation for men to admire you, and to seek to know you as a person...not as a collection of parts walking around to be lusted over! Girls, dress to reflect God's beauty to the world and

remember the responsibility you have in carrying out that mis-sion. Jesus Christ warns the one that leads her brother into temp-tation and sin, "If anyone causes one of these little ones--those who believe in me--to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned

in the depths of the sea." Matthew 18:6

KICK OFF NIGHT Wednesday August 31st beginning with

ing to be playing messy games!!!

TRIP TO POLAND FOR WORLD YOUTH DAY!!

Hello, for those of you who don't me, my name is Leslie Germany. I am going to be a senior at Groom High School this year, and I've been attending St. Vincent for about 7 years now. This summer I was blessed with the opportunity to at-tend World Youth Day in Kraków Poland. When I first got involved with this event, I didn't think much of it, as time went on and with all the violence going on around the world I started to feel feelings of regret about the trip. After traveling for numerous hours we finally got to see the beautiful country of Poland. The people in Jaworzno, our home parish for Days in the Diocese, were so welcoming and excited to have us there. I instantly knew that the next couple of weeks were going to be a blast as well as exhausting. The next couple of days we toured beautiful churches and went hiking. In our home parish, there were also people from Ghana and Great Britain. Dur-ing that week I made so many new friends and got to spend a lot of time with my awesome host family. The next week we made our way to Kraków for the actual part of World Youth Day where we also stayed with host families. I thought I knew what a lot of people was until we went to the stadium where we had opening mass. Millions of peo-ple gathered to worship God. People of different lan-guages,races, and and of different heritage gathered to worship the same God the same way we do here at home, which really amazed me. I never really thought about it that way until I was able to see millions of people doing the same thing we do here in Pampa. I'm thankful that I got to experience this event. It really helped me grow closer to my faith and helped me learn a lot about Catholicism. Even with all the hiking, lack of sleep, walking in pouring rain, and all the sweat, I wouldn't trade this experience for any-thing. Lastly, a big thank you to all who helped us reach our goal for this trip during the last couple of the years, and all the prayers while we were gone, thank you. "Blessed are the merciful: For they shall obtain mercy," Matthew 5:7.
