Stoneybrook has provided plenty of neededCOVID-19 information for our owners to feel comfortable about our pathway and what the safest things are for us to be doing at this moment in time. Our owners and staff have visited other properties during the past few weeks to play golf, and most will tell us that they are proud of how we have and continue to deal with the safety of our people. We will continue those efforts for as long as it takes. Just recently the Board of Governors approved a motion from our House Committee to enhance our Outside Dining efforts. Our thoughts from the very start have been about what our Club might look like in the near future and how we will keep our people safe while trying to run a very successful business at the same time. At this point, our Board has approved approximately 2,000 square feet in pavers, new tables, chairs, and large umbrellas. There were definite thoughts for an awning of some sort over the main outside dining area, but the cost to purchase one that would withstand the elements and look aesthetically pleasing would far exceed what the Board would like to spend at this point. We will continue to investigate shading options for all three locations—The Grille Patio, the Main Area, and the back-Palmer Patio—to see if they make sense. The good news is it will be cooler in due time and a good portion of our business will be after the sun goes down. We usually have information related to projects at this point in the summer but, as you know, funds are being held for the time being while we navigate through the rest of this mess. We must be responsible, but we also have to be careful that we take care of what we currently have at the same time. Wherever you are, we wish you the best and certainly hope you are safe and well! Greetings From The Club by Frank Leahy, General Manager President’s Update by Bruce Waugh, President, SGCC August 2020 I have sent a large number of emails in recent months. I have benefited by the many replies members have sent to me. I will discuss that this month. 1. Number I have stopped counting how many emails I have received. I estimate it as over 750. The most common emails were just messages of support. These are always appreciated. We on the Board have had to make many decisions, often balancing the desire by members to keeping amenities available and the need to keep our members safe. We have made other decisions, such as outdoor dining and forming project teamsand your support is always appreciated. 2. Covid-19 We have learned a lot about COVID-19. I have learned of cases from our members. I appreciate that I have been informed almost immediately, so I have then been able to alert the members. Our members have been very responsible—going into quarantine and notifying their contacts. Some members who wanted to be tested had difficulty when their doctors said they did not qualify for a prescription. I was able to refer them to Dr. Franzon. In every case, they were able to get tested that day. We have had members who had recovered from COVID-19 donate plasma containing their antibodies. This is something we can all be proud of since it is a four-hour process, but likely saved the lives of others. We have a volunteer at SMH who forwards the hospitals updates to me. It makes me feel that I am fully informed about the situation here in Sarasota. 3. Suggestions I appreciate receiving suggestions. As an example, when we had our ice machines closed, a member suggested we open them, but advise people to bring their own water bottle. This was implemented the very next day. I have received ideas for the outdoor dining plan. Some have suggested ways to use canopies without being unsightly. Another recommended using a pergola; another suggested spinnakers. (I had to look both of these up on Google!) These suggestions were forwarded to Frank and to the House Committee. 4. Misconceptions Our structure is complicated, as you all realized when you were given a massive stack of documents when you became an owner. Some questions I received indicated some members do not understand that we all have a share in Stoneybrook. For example, I received a couple of emails saying there should be a reduction in dues because we had closed golf and other facilities. I replied, asking them, who they thought was paying our costs? I will give an explanation on our governance and financial structure next month. I will try not to be boring! I think it is important for everyone to understand our structure—and our role in it. 5. Directors We have 11 directors. They are all active, more so this year than ever. We meet every month. In addition, directors have committee responsibilities. One that has been very important this year has been the Golf Committee and especially its chair, John Porreca. We have had so many issues this year regarding what to open, how to do things safely, what changes to make. We formed a new committee, the Medical Advisory Committee, led by its chair, Dr. Franzon. Its input has been essential, as we have tried to keep our members and staff safe. 6. Staff Frank Leahy, our General Manager, runs Stoneybrook. The Boards role is a limited one, primarily dealing with our policies, as well as looking to the future. I have forwarded to Frank perhaps 200 of your emails. His knowledge of Stoneybrook is immense, and his judgment is always sound. We have been extremely fortunate to have his leadership at this time. I do not deal directly with the rest of our staff; that is not my role, but I know from the feedback that I have received that they are doing a great job. I always appreciate receiving emails pointing out especially good service. (Cont. on next page.)

I have sent a large number of emails in recent months. I have benefited by the many replies members have sent to me. I will discuss that this month. 1. Number I have stopped counting how many emails I have received. I estimate it as over 750. The most common emails were just messages of support. These are always appreciated. WHAT’S HAPPENING IN GOLF As we navigate the Covid-19 pandemic, the Golf Department has had success with allowing Members to enjoy golf through the “Park and Play Program”. The Golf Committee and Board of Governors are looking at different scenarios to provide the best and safest Golf experience possible for the upcoming season. Some of these decisions will be guided or changed by the conditions of the pandemic at the time. TOURNAMENT EVENTS Unfortunately, the Club Member/Guest in November has been cancelled and will return in 2021. A

decision had to be made early due to the travel plans of Members and Guests. This premiere event could not be conducted as the golf format, food and entertainment schedule lends itself to social gathering. The SMGA, SWGA-18 and SWGA-9 Tournament Chairs have put together a great schedule for the upcoming season. The Golf Committee and the Golf Professional Staff have been in constant contact with those Associations in conducting summer events and the planning of season events. As we get closer to the fall, we will evaluate major events based on the safety and current conditions of the pandemic. It’s possible we re-imagine how those events will be conducted. Updates to come! GOLF COURSE The Golf Course is in great shape and is holding up well to the increased cart tire traffic. Please be reminded to utilize the 90-degree rule to protect the turf from wear and tear. Single-cart riding has doubled the cart traffic on the course! The Course will be getting a little break for the summer maintenance closure that begins on August 10th and continues through August 18th. The Golf Shop will be open daily from 7:00 am to noon to book your Reciprocal requests. The Golf Committee is researching and testing safe solutions to increase the golf tee sheet capacity for the season. More information to be released soon. USGA POSTING EXPECTIONS The main areas of responsibility a player is expected to follow: • Act with integrity by following the Rules of Handicapping and to refrain from using or circumventing the Rules

of Handicapping for the purpose of gaining an unfair advantage. • Attempt to make the best score possible at each hole. • Submit acceptable scores for handicap purposes as soon as possible after the round is completed and before

midnight local time. Post the same day of play. Please utilize GHIN.com or download the USGA mobile app found at the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. GHIN numbers can be found on Stoneybrook.net under Golf Handicap tab.

• Submit acceptable scores to provide reasonable evidence of their demonstrated ability. • Play by the Rules of Golf and Certify the scores of the fellow Player. PARK AND PLAY PROGRAM REMINDERS • Members will park their car and load their own clubs. • Verbal Check-in at the starter is located on the Golf Shop porch. • Members are limited to arriving 15 minutes prior to tee time. • Golf carts will be staged at least 6 feet apart near the pool area. • Golf Shop is open to Members only with face covering or mask. • After the round you can drive the cart to your car to take your bag home. • You are permitted to drive carts in the parking lot. Please use extreme caution. • No social gathering before or after play. BE SAFE Please be safe and follow CDC Recommendations. Wash your hands, social distance and wear a mask to stop the spread. Hopefully, the crystal ball clears and we can return to some sort of normalcy in the near future. Golfingly Yours, Ed Katchur PGA Head Professional

7. Complaints

I rarely receive complaints. Sometimes complaints were at odds—one member saying an activity should be completely closed, another saying it should be more open. However, the vast majority of members have accepted that we are dealing with difficult decisions and using our best judgment. 8. Emergencies One Sunday at 6:30am I received a phone call from a member that a main pipe had broken near the front gate and there was massive flooding. I immediately contacted the chair of our Grounds Committee (Bob Fleckenstein) and within minutes he and our Facilities and Grounds Manager (Forest Crooke) were at the site and within 10 minutes the County began working on it. The timely call from that member prevented the situation getting worse. 9. Members Expertise In a few emails, I asked if any members had expertise in a particular area, including medical, communications, social media, and facility design. I have been impressed by the diverse knowledge of our members, and have been very pleased with their willingness to help. 10. Final Comments One of our greatest strengths is you, our members. I have been fortunate in having your advice and support. Keep those emails coming!

DPAC by Bob Fleckenstein, DPAC Chair

My “Summer Current” article for the past several years always began with some type of weather fact. So, I was doing some research and found some fun facts about August that were much more exciting. So here are some “Just for Fun” Days. I think we could all use these. Have fun with these strange celebrations!

• Aug. 1–7: International Clown Week

• Aug. 8: “National Sneak Some Zucchini on to Your Neighbors’ Porch Day”

• Aug. 10: National S’mores Day

• Aug. 12: Vinyl Record Day

• Aug. 13: International Left-Handers Day

• Aug. 17: International Geocaching Day

• Aug. 17: World Honeybee Day

• Aug. 25: Kiss-and-Make-Up Day

It has most definitely been a strange summer but this month we hope to get back on track and complete some of our summer projects. Miss Kim is back from her hip replacement and is doing amazingly well. She will be working on the Envera credential audit. Credentials that have not been used for over 4 years will be disabled. Remember do not throw away credentials, they can be re-activated.

Jessica is making some website changes and putting some much-needed new spins on the “Current” newsletter.

We will also be pulling the information for the 2020-2021 Stoneybrook Membership Directory insert. The deadline to change any information is August 20, 2020. The information we use to compiles the list of owners is taken from the Stoneybrook Website directory, so take a break from your summer fun or quarantine and login to the website to review your information. If you need help, just give us a call 941-966-2711. Stay safe and we hope to see you soon!

“When someone you love becomes a memory, the

memory becomes a treasure.” - Author Unknown -

Remembering all of our

Stoneybrook members have recently passed:

As we begin another month into our COVID-19 journey, it would be an understatement to say, “we want things to return to normal!” That said, we know how important

it is to take every measure we can to make you feel as safe as possible when you choose to dine at Stoneybrook. High-touch surfaces, such as counters, tables and chairs throughout the restaurant, are cleaned and sanitized after each use. Tables have been placed to ensure social distancing. Members coming in to dine and all restaurant employees have their temperatures checked when they arrive for work. All restaurant staff are required to wear masks. We have transitioned to disposable menus and all condiments have been switched to single use. For those of you who are still a bit too uncomfortable to venture out, curbside pickup and delivery are always an alternative to dining in. Outside dining is available on either patio. If you prefer a lawn table, we would be happy to move one to the location of your choice. Please note: The following schedule of events is subject to change. Bingo is the first, third and fifth (if there is one) Thursday of the month through October. A limited-choice menu will be offered, and your choice will be requested at the time of your reservation. We know these are unusual times to say the least. We have laid out the dining room to provide ample social distancing. Alan Blum and Patty Heberling are your hosts of this great event. Bingo will be held August 6th and August 20th. Dinner will be served at 5:30pm.

Trivia will be held on Friday, August 14th. Please let the hostess know your dinner choice when making reservations. Dinner will be served at 5:30pm. Maximum table size is 4. This is a great time to get into the game. No table is too small. We can accommodate tables of 1, 2 or 3. We can also add you to an existing table provided both parties approve. Andrew and Susie Batty are your Trivia Masters. They promise that the questions will reflect the smaller teams and the conduct of the game will be modified to maintain social distancing. A choice of three entrees, salad, dessert, and a brewed beverage are included with your reservation. Pub Night on Wednesday evenings includes a single-serve pub salad and bread with all entrees. These options work well for takeout and delivery. Through the summer, the restaurant will be closed every Tuesday. The restaurant will be open for lunch every day except Tuesday. Grilled Grouper w/ Mango-Honey BBQ Sauce By Zeke Wentworth, Executive

Grilled Gulf Grouper with Mango-Honey Barbeque Sauce Probably Florida’s most popular fish, grouper is firm, flavorful and great for cooking on the grill. Our mango-honey barbeque sauce is sweet with just a bit of heat, and they pair together well.

4 servings 4 fresh grouper fillets (6 oz. ea.) 3 TBL olive oil ½ cup minced onion 1 tsp minced jalapeno (optional) 1 tsp minced garlic 2 cup diced ripe mango ¼ cup fresh-squeezed lime juice ½ cup white vinegar 2 TBL honey ½ tsp dry mustard Salt Fresh ground pepper For the Sauce: In a 1-quart saucepan over med-high heat add 1 TBL olive oil. Once hot, add onion and jalapeno pepper, cooking until onions are translucent, about 2–3 minutes. Add the garlic to the pan and continue cooking until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Deglaze with lime juice and vinegar and add the mango, honey, mustard and ½ tsp of salt. Bring to a boil then reduce heat to medium. Cook until mangos are very soft, about 4 minutes. Allow to cool, add to blender and puree on low until smooth. (Higher speeds will incorporate more air.) Reserve sauce until needed. For the Grouper: Preheat grill to medium heat. Brush grouper with olive oil, season with salt and pepper. Arrange grouper over heat on grill. Rotate grouper after about 3 minutes, cook for 2–3 minutes more. Flip fish to cook on the other side, brush on the barbeque sauce and cook until fish is done, opaque in center, about 5 minutes more.
