Mark Wisenbaker from the Valdosta Chapter Sons of the American Revolution and
Irene D’Amato from the General James Jackson Chapter of the National Society
of the Daughters of the American Revolution ring the bell at the First Baptist Church, 2
p.m., July 4. The bell has been tolled for several years in commemoration of the tolling
of the Liberty Bell at Independence Hall in Philadelphia at that same time July 4, 1776.
An act of Congress officially authorized the ‘Let Freedom Ring Bell Ringing Ceremony’
in 1963. Bell ringing times are adjusted in different time zones across the U.S. to coin-
cide with 2 p.m. Eastern Daylight Savings Time.

President’s Report
Geoff Hardy
It’s August and that means three things… It’s
HOT and both college football and car show
season are right around the corner. Keep an eye
on the events calendar that gets sent out as it will be updated with
events as soon as we are made aware of them.
One August event is Playloud 6 in Jennings, FL. This is a great
little show that our club has supported for a couple of years. The
event is used to collect school supplies for children and the cost
to enter is only $10 worth of supplies. Please make plans to at-
tend and support the worthy, local event.
We are still looking for commitments for help with our Fall Clas-
sic Car & Truck Show on November 3rd. If you haven’t signed up
to help on one of the committees, the time is now. As always,
club members are expected to help obtain sponsorships, plan the
schedule of events, assist during setup, teardown, trash collection,
and for parking. The success of this event depends on each and
every member participating throughout the entire process.
Thank you for being a member of the South Georgia Classic Car
Club and I look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming
events.
Happy Cruising!

Automotive Addicts—Jacksonville -- Geoff Hardy
Every 2nd Saturday, Automotive Addicts out of Jacksonville hosts a Cars and Coffee at the Avenues Mall in Jacksonville. The event is
technically scheduled from 8 to 11 but the paring lot starts filling up with cars before 6 am. Over 1000 vehicles attend this event each
and every month. There is something for everyone from classics and hot rods to imports and modern muscle. A large number of Euro-
pean cars both new and old are on hand along with several high end car dealerships showing off the newest offerings from the different
manufacturers. It's a great event to attend and afterwards, you can get in a little shopping in one of the best malls in the area. This is
truly one of the best monthly events in the southeast and is definitely worth a trip.

The Dog Days of Summer! July seemed to have its share of hot and humid weather—Lows about 75°, High about 95°, and afternoon thun-derstorms almost every day. August appears to just be hot!
The threat of rain did not keep enthusiasts away from the 2nd Saturday Cruise-in at Brusters on July 14, as you can see from the pictures sup-plied by George Hardy. The same was true at the 3rd Thursday Cruise-In at DQ on July 19. We had a short shower but thhere was a good showing with about 15 cars, and conditions were fairly comfortable on the front porch.
Our member, Irene d’Amato was able to partici-pate in the ringing of the bell on July 4—see the article from the Valdosta Daily Times on page 2.
Thanks to Geoff Hardy for providing pictures and a short report of the Automotive Addicts
Cars & Coffee monthly event in Jacksonville. That looks to be a very large gathering.
Paul Worth provided the cover photo, and Geoff Hardy provided a couple of photos from the Ray City parade.
I encourage some of you to write up a short ac-count of a unique experience with your first car—these short accounts would be fun for the club to exchange through this newsletter. Include a photo if you can.
We look forward to receiving reports of some of your experiences this sum-mer . Send toemail://[email protected],
Happy Cruising!
