After much discussion by the elders and representatives from our finance, children’s ministries, and hospitality teams, we’ve landed on a plan to accommodate growing numbers in children’s ministries. The plan will gain a larger J.A.M. room (3-5 year old), 2 larger Sun- day School classrooms, and an updated foyer and bathrooms on the west end of the building. As shown in the blue print (Below) we will remove two walls and extend one wall to make the classrooms and the current administra- tive office one large room. This will be the new J.A.M. room and will have a sliding divider wall to allow the one large room to become two larger Sunday School classrooms. The administrative office will move to the area of the current coat closet, though some closet space will remain. The foyer will also get a make-over, which was a decision based not on need but on timing. While we’re painting, carpeting and redesigning part of the west end, we thought it made most sense to go ahead and do the remainder of the foyer for a unified look. According to church policy, all out-of-budget expenditures over $7,500 must be communicated in writing to the congregation and the elders have set aside up to $60,000 for this project. Approximately 40% of this will come from already budgeted funds set aside for capi- tal improvements. The remaining money will come from income already received this year that has exceeded the budget. We will be able to pay for this project from money already on hand and depend- ing on the amount of volunteer labor we are able to utilize, we hope to come in under budget. We were able to do the Chenoa sanctuary renovation substantially under budget because of the willingness of many volunteers. There are three main areas that volunteers are needed. 1 For the first few days, we’ll need workers to help with demoli- tion and unskilled labor. Throughout the project, we’ll need a few volunteers to regularly keep the workspace clean. If you are able to volunteer in this capacity, email me at [email protected]. 2 We’d like to solicit the help of any volunteers who are skilled laborers (carpenters, electricians, plumbers, drywall finish- ers). We’ll start by using skilled volunteers, and then hire out what remains. If you are able to volunteer skilled labor, please contact Chris Gentes at [email protected]. 3 We need “semi-skilled”painters. If you can paint, email Grant Stauter at [email protected]. We plan on beginning the project on 8/20 and having work nights that entire week, including a workday that Saturday (8/25). More information will follow via email, but if you are able to volun- teer, please contact me, Chris, or Grant (email addresses above) as soon as possible so that coordination of the work can get underway. This project will likely entail some hybrid Sunday School spaces for the month of September, and further communication with be forthcoming on a week by week basis as we see what the Sunday School needs and available spaces are in September. Thank you to all who have volunteered effort in planning so far and for all who will devote time an energy in the days ahead. Youth Group Kick-Offs August 22Jr. High @ 5:30 pm | Sr. High @ 7:00 pm

Sr. High Youth Group: D3This year at D3, we learned about

the simple Gospel. In the very first ses-sion we heard the speaker say, “We are going to preach hard.” And they did just that all week! We sat under some great teaching throughout the week and the students reacted positively to what they heard.

On one of the nights, several students shared their testimonies in front of the entire group. It was difficult for some to confess, but encouraging for others to hear. Whenever we are vulnerable and expose our shortcomings, it invites oth-ers in and God uses this to grow us in holiness. This is God’s will for us, that we would be sanctified (1 Thessalo-nians 4:3). Sharing our testimony brings the darkness to light (John 3:20-21).

Another theme throughout the week was the propensity for the emotional high associated with summer camps. Emotions are good, but we need to let wisdom guide our feelings. We must let God’s word direct our affections.
