Gandhi Jayanti

Tanmay BhosaleIV

It is the birthday of Gandhiji our beloved Father of the Nation. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on 2nd October 1869 at Porbandar in

Kathiawar, Gujarat. We celebrate Gandhi Jayanti to recall the great contribution made by Gandhiji, and pay homage to the Father of the Nation. His philosophy of non-violence astonished British rulers and the leaders of the world. He was able to lead India to win freedom through non-violence and Satyagraha. He had set up an example to the world that freedom can be won without bloodshed. On this day, special functions are organized at Keerthi Mandir, the British house of Gandhi. National leaders pay homage to Gandhiji at the Raj Ghat in New Delhi.

Diwali

Diwali, the most prominent Hindu festival of India, is celebrated with a lot of joy. During this festival of lights, houses are decorated with

clay lamps, candles, and Ashok leaves. People wear new clothes; participate in family pujas, burst crackers, and share sweets with friends, families, and neighbours. The festival marks the return of Lord Rama, along with his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana, after a long exile of 14 years. Homes are decorated with fancy lights, candles and clay lamps, bustling shops and markets, and fireworks and crackers.

It is important that people watch their intake of food to maintain a healthy diet. Eating a diet rich in some vegetables and fruits as part of an overall healthy diet may protect against certain types of cancers. Diet rich in foods containing fibre, such as vegetables and fruits, may reduce the risk of heart disease, obesity and diabetes. A balanced diet should contain starchy foods like potatoes, bread and rice. Have some dairy alternatives (such as soya drinks), some beans, pulses, fish, eggs, meat and other protein. Many of the people intake junk food all the time which is not good and has many bad effects. Several research studies have shown that fast foods and processed foods have increased childhood obesity, heart disease and diabetes and other chronic diseases. The more junk food you consume, the less likely you are to consume the essential nutrients that your body relies on.

Why was Leonardo da Vinci genius ?

Genius is the name given to those people who accomplish wonderful achievements. This is exactly what the Italian Sculptor, painter, and scientist Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) did. His painting technique had a lively effect on the people and influenced the later paintings. He dissected the dead and was the first person to draw the internal organs of the human body. He even studied technology and physics and drew diagrams of machines and means of transport, which became a reality many years later after the invention of steam engine. The left handed Leonardo da Vinci mostly wrote in mirror writing. He probably did this to encrypt his ideas, which often went against Christian teachings of his time.

5th November 2013 was a day when India took its first step to Mars by launching a satellite on PSLV-C25 rocket from Shatish Dhawan Space Centre, Shriharikota. Its name was Mars Orbiter Mission or Mangalyaan. This mission was carried out by ISRO. It was India’s first interplanetary mission. After the failure of China in its mission to the Red planet, India had a golden chance to move ahead. At the same time NASA had also launched Maven to Mars. Its budget was thrice of Mangalyaan. Mangalyaan’s size was as much as an autorickshaw and its weight was as much as three autorickshaws. Budget for the mission was 71 million $. ISRO didn’t have a powerful rocket which would send it straight towards Mars. So, it was decided that it will complete six rounds around the Earth and after completing every round the velocity of it will be increased. Finally, it reached at calculated velocity after completing seven rounds and was set off to Mars on 24 September 2014. It was tracked by scientists working in the space centre of Bangalore. At last, after the journey of six months which started on 5 November 2013 it reached near its destination. The last lap of the race had begun. Now, its engine had to fire in the opposite direction to decrease its velocity. It could be compared with Kumbhakarna in Ramayana who slept for six months and when time came to wake up, ready for the war. Everyone’s eye was on Mangalyaan. Scientists in Bangalore were hoping for success. Finally, it completed its mission successfully and started rotating around Mars. From that day, it is sending pictures of Mars till date. It is not only the satellite but also an inspiration for the children of India.

A man who has a mind always has his own thoughts or dreams. We will not find a man who has no thoughts or dreams or ambitions in his mind. It is always better to keep ambitions/dreams & willpower to achieve

the same. I am currently in VI Grade. I see many people in society who are facing health related issues due to different diseases. This is the main cause why people are not able to perform well in their areas. The mental health of family is also disturbed due to the health-related issues. So, it is necessary to keep their body fit & healthy to achieve goals/dreams. I have decided to become a doctor who can solve people’s health issues & try to keep them fit. To achieve my dream is not easy as I realised, I have to study hard for it. I see many people in the society who are poor & needy, they need medical help and don’t get it on time. I need to see how I can provide them the cheapest medical aid for the diseases that disturb their health. I believe I will definitely succeed & God will give me the power & blessings to achieve the same.

Women Empowerment - The Flourishing Life

Anjana NairVII F

‘Women empowerment’ and ‘gender equality of men and women’ is a universal issue. Women must have their rights of making their own decisions for their personal benefits as well as for the society. In today’s generation too, in many parts of world, women are oppressed. They don’t get equal opportunities like men in the society. They should be respected. They should be treated as well as the men. Women empowerment is to empower women by promoting their participation in all areas and sectors to build stronger economies and to improve their self confidence. With steady increase in the number of working women they have gained financial independence, which has given them confidence to lead their own lives and build their own identity. Women empowerment means to make women capable of doing all things independently. It is not really easy to be a woman, as she has too

many roles everyday as a daughter, sister, mother and wife. They must get education and rights to participate in social life. Let us hope, women empowerment spreads progress amongst all women of our vast country.

Child labour is employment of children below the age of 14 years in an industry or business. Child labour is an illegal act and has been a big social issue in India for years. It is

considered as exploitation of the children of future and country. Any type of job performed by the children in industry is difficult, lethal as well as hazardous and normally reprehensible for them. Children have to perform a wide range of tasks and activities even after being under aged and having low capacity. It has spread all over the country like a poison that’s why we have to save the future of the upcoming young generation.
