Presidents Report August 2015

Well we’ve put the conference behind us now and look forward to our next event

the Spring Show. The days are getting longer and things in the orchid house are

starting to move so hopefully we’ll have some great plants to show to the visiting

public.

But what a thrill it was to see all the plants arrive at the venue to adorn our terrific

display at the conference and to win champion display was the icing on the cake.

Well done to all concerned. It was an amazing piece of floral mastery.

The whole conference went off magnificently with our vendors all grateful for the

opportunity and the participating societies amazed at how well organised we

were. So two years of preparation really paid off.

Finally - Well done everyone. I believe we’ve put Toowoomba Orchid Society on

the orchid map and we may have once been considered some hick, hillbilly

growers but are now thought of as keen and dedicated orchid enthusiasts. Thank

you.

From the Editor. Well here we are again, Conference behind us and Spring Show ahead. Before I go any further I wish to pass on a message from a couple of vendors and clubs. I was asked to say ‘Thank you to the members of TOS for their assistance in setting up and pulling down. It is greatly appreciated’. I am sure those who helped are greatly appreciative of the two simplest words that mean so much. As we all know a thank you goes a long way, as does a helping hand. Neither one costs a cent. There are so many people who we wish to thank for your hard work throughout the past couple of years, a few too many to list but include members of TOS along with the support and contributions from other orchid societies and their members and vendors and sponsors. It was wonderful to see so many people come through the doors and I am hoping everyone who attended had an enjoyable time and was able to purchase several desirable plants to add to their collections, I know we certainly did. Congratulations to all the winners and runners up and to all who entered orchids, art, floral art & photos. Without all the entries we wouldn’t have had a show. It was also lovely to see so many novice entries, great job everyone. We had the honour and privilege to meet some truly wonderful people, and look forward to venturing around our country to catch up with them again. I know our club as a whole is extremely delighted to have had all the vendors and other clubs put on displays with us and to share in the celebrations of Toowoomba Orchid Society’s 60th anniversary. I am sure there will be stories to hear and to tell for some time to come. Thank you again to everyone who made the conference an enjoyable event. Sonia & Steve
