You might want to check with us before ordering uniforms as well; this could save you some money. There have been changes to the high school uniform policy. You should have received a letter to this effect, but if somehow this letter has been lost, stolen, or donated to the landfill, please call the school. We have three new staffers: Mr. Monczewski will be heading up our music program. Mr. Mon is quite the violinist, so we expect a greater interest in strings. Mr. Sutphen will be teaching some seventh grade classes, as well as elementary PE. [Both ‘Mr. Mon’ and Mr. Sutphen are graduates of TBS.] And we are excited to add Miss Katrista Osborne to add our daycare staff as well.

Welcome Calendar

It’s not quite time for school to start, but… it’s just around the corner.

We’re excited about what the school year of 2013-2014 will bring. If you are new

to TBS, we warmly welcome you to our school. If you are returning to the TBS

family, welcome back. Thanks, everyone, for entrusting your most precious pos-

sessions to our care. We are grateful to the Lord for a good enrollment.

Things to keep in mind as we head for the start of school

K3 - K5 and 6th grade students must have a physical immunization form on file

before August 27, according to the Fairfax County Health Department. The

health department will not permit a student to stay in school without these

forms and believe it or not, they do come in and check.

The first tuition payment is due August 15. We do not send invoices, so we

depend on timely payments to meet our needs, so please be on prompt with

your payments. Please call the school to set up daycare arrangements.

If you have school uniforms to donate (assuming they don’t look like you’ve been camping

in them) drop them off at the School Office. You might want to check with us

before ordering uniforms as well; this could save you some money.

There have been changes to the high school uniform policy. You should have

received a letter to this effect, but if somehow this letter has been lost, stolen,

or donated to the landfill, please call the school.

We have three new staffers: Mr. Monczewski will be heading up our music

program. Mr. Mon is quite the violinist, so we expect a greater interest in

strings. Mr. Sutphen will be teaching some seventh grade classes, as well as

elementary PE. [Both ‘Mr. Mon’ and Mr. Sutphen are graduates of TBS.] And

we are excited to add Miss Katrista Osborne to add our daycare staff as well.

Back to School Reminders

School supply lists are on the school website. To find them, go to

‘Admissions’ and then look for ‘forms.’

The school calendar is also on the website. (Actually, it’s been on there all summer, but

who wants to look at it in June?) There are two options for you: a detailed on-line

view of the school year and a printable, year-at-a-glance “refrigerator calen-

dar.”

We do our best to give every student a birthday greeting with accompanying

photo on the principal’s blog at www.templebaptistschool.com. (Even in the dog days of

summer.) If your child’s birthday is not listed on their special day , let us know

ASAP at [email protected].

If you are a Twitter fan, you can follow TBS tweets at TBSHerndon. Not that

you should… but you can.

On Thursday, September 5 we will celebrate Jersey Day (which has nothing

to do with New Jersey; just so you know.) so students may wear their NFL jerseys to

school. (Actually, they can wear any kind of sports jersey that day, but since the NFL will be

starting up and since a certain athlete named RGIII or something is so popular…)

Please be advised that once you step foot inside the school, you are ‘on cam-

era.’ This is for the safety and protection of our students. And keep in mind

that while we appreciate parents being polite, but if you do not know some-

one, please do not hold the door open for them. Just remember: school secu-

rity is paramount. We have had some very respectful kids let in people to our

building who should have been checked at the door.

Parking in the car line lane prior during morning drop-off is forbidden. If you

wish to come into the school, that’s great, but do not park in the line, aban-

don your car, and walk in… as this causes parents who wish to ‘drop and go’

to be delayed. And sometimes it causes them to be upset, so do your thing for world peace and

park your car in the right place when entering the building.

Although food allergies were not that well known over a decade ago, they

seem to be popping up with kids everywhere today. Please make sure that

you notify the school — and your child’s teacher — of any food allergies your

children may have. This will especially come into play on field trips or per-

haps a pizza reward. Parents will need to remember to bring food that their

children may be able to eat on these special days. [Of course, if your child has

a life-threatening allergy please be sure that our staff is aware of their needs

and that an epi-pen is with the student at all times.]

Parent Orientation is Friday evening, August 23. This is a chance to meet

your child’s teacher and pick up your packets of information, including your

identification for your car for afternoon pick-up. Yes, you may bring the kids,

but it is not necessary to do so. We’ll begin in the auditorium at 7 p.m. and

dismiss to the classrooms. Normally, this lasts about an hour and one half.

Interested in music lessons for your child? TBS has a great music program

that offers wonderfully affordable rates. Check around this area and see—our

rates are great. Sign-up with the school office for lessons. We have several

talented music teachers to assist your child in growing musically. And you do

know that the discipline required in taking music spills over into the world of academics, right? You

don’t? Well, now you do.
