Sign-‐up and commit yourself to grow in
Christ Jesus!
Become a Member “Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” Romans 12:4-‐5
Christians were never intended to live a life of faith in isolation, but to fellowship and to worship with other believers. First Thessalonians 5:11 says we are to, “Encourage one another and build one another up in the faith.” We can’t do this unless we are vitally related to other Christians. Therefore, we invite you to come and join us in our Membership & Renewal Class to understand church membership and to gain a deeper understanding of our faith in Christ Jesus. For members, it is a refresher course about what it means to be a Christian and a member of Calvary. For pre-members, it defines the expectation and meaning of what it means to be a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ. By becoming a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, we express our commitment to grow in faith and become a part of a “spiritual family” that worships together, grows in faith together and serves one another.
Calvary Presbyterian Church’s Mission Statement is to be “Messengers in Centering People in Christ”. This is accomplished by the involvement of our Congregation and the physical facilities that are utilized to share God’s Word.
Our church is comprised of the main building and the gymnasium. Imagine the limitations of our mission if we did not have our gymnasium. We could not continue our Basketball Ministry; hold our bi-‐annual Rummage Sales or annual Spaghetti Feed; Ballroom Dancing; Tai Chi; Health Fairs; Concerts; and Community Programs, such as providing a safe environment for the YMCA to nurture young boys to be stronger believers in Christ. These activities have been a catalyst of introducing visitors to CPC. We are utilizing the gymnasium more and more, while tying it into the life of the church.
The gymnasium was constructed with a $400,000 loan from the Synod of the Pacific. The loan was modified in 2010 to a lower interest rate. As of July 2012, the outstanding principal amount is $373,869.99. $1,600 is the average interest amount per our monthly loan payment of $2,836.96. To ensure that we maintain our ongoing ministries, we will be holding the following Special Building Fund Offering: Mortgage Sunday 2012 There will be a Special offering on Sunday, September 23. All proceeds will go towards the loan principal. There will be a Special Offering Envelope included with the Calvary Press. Purpose: to pay down our mortgage as quickly as possible and to be good stewards of our resources. We hope to make this an annual event.
