WRR has never been one to rest on its laurels; we’re always looking to improve our listeners’ experience whether on air or online.” WRR worked with designers from DIB Creative and Content Active to create a new framework based on the functions most used by our listeners from the station’s old web site. We created a site that works the way our listen- ers naturally search for information. Popular functions, such as streaming online, purchasing music and subscribing to the e-mail newsletter are available on every page; but many aspects of the site change as users move from page to page based on their current search. The home page has been condensed to offer news headlines and current arts events. Items are conveniently tabbed based on inter- ests like stage performances or literary events and a search feature added to simplify finding a particular event heard on WRR. We’ve removed the clutter while creating a site that offers much more information. Davis said “This is a site that handles our present needs and allows us to continue to grow as new technology is introduced.” WRR’s site is currently undergoing testing and will be unveiled to the public shortly within the next 30 days. Stay tuned for exciting contests promoting the site.

Twen ty - f i ve years after his death, we’re still awed, bemused and ob-sessed over the pianist glenn gould. his two recordings of Bach’s “goldberg Variations” continue to draw legions of new fans. Why this con-stant fascination with the eccentric Canadian, at the expense of so many of the other great pianists of the 20th century?

in her new book, writer Katie hafner doesn’t even attempt an explanation for the gould mystique. But “a Romance on Three Legs” adds significantly to Gould lore, without resorting to loopy hyperbole or specious myth-making.

For this is a book with a clear focus: gould’s long search for the dream piano that would satisfy his sometimes contradictory musical demands. hafner begins with a freshly narrated early account of the pianist and from there, nimbly introduces the important figures in gould’s quest: the near-blind piano tech-nician Verne edquist, the piano manufac-turer steinway and sons and the Toronto department store that ultimately housed gould’s holy grail of concert grands.

There’s a Cinderella quality to gould’s beloved “CD 318” - a battered World War ii-era piano that, until gould found it, was collecting dust in a back-stage auditorium. But alas, this isn’t a tale with a happy ending, made more tragic by gould’s premature death at age 50.

simply put, “a Romance on Three legs” is compelling storytelling. For gould fans, piano connoisseurs who thought they know everything about steinway, or readers just in need of a

good yarn, this book doesn’t disappoint.
