Reflection of the Gospel:

How do we reconcile today’s gospel with Jesus,

the Prince of Peace? Human beings, with our

God-given free will, are able to accept or reject

peace in whatever form it comes to us. We see

this in the time of Jesus and throughout the past

two thousand years. Jesus’ proclamation of the

kingdom of God where the poor and the humble

are blessed and the rich and powerful are turned

away has often been rejected and met with Re-

sistance. Jesus proclaimed However, when Jesus

himself met with resistance, even resistance up

to death on the cross, he responded with nonvio-

lence, forgiveness, and love. On our journey of

faith we will meet resistance too when we

challenge the status quo. May our response be

that of Jesus, the Prince of Peace.

“Lord Jesus, may the fire of your love consume me and

transform my life that I may truly desire nothing more than

life with you. Fill me with the power of your Holy Spirit that

I may always seek to please you and do

your will.”

Reflexión del Evangelio:

¿Cómo reconciliamos el evangelio de hoy con Jesús,

el Príncipe de la Paz? Los seres humanos, con

nuestro libre albedrío dado por Dios, pueden aceptar

o rechazar la paz en cualquier forma que se nos pre-

sente. Vemos esto en el tiempo de Jesús y en los

últimos dos mil años. La proclamación del reino de

Dios de Jesús, donde los pobres y los humildes son

bendecidos y los ricos y poderosos son rechazados,

a menudo ha sido rechazado y encontrado con

Resistencia. Jesús proclamó Sin embargo, cuando

Jesús mismo encontró resistencia, incluso resisten-

cia hasta la muerte en la cruz, respondió con no

violencia, perdón y amor. En nuestro viaje de fe,

también encontraremos resistencia cuando

desafiemos el statu quo. Que nuestra respuesta sea la

de Jesús, el Príncipe de la Paz.

mi vida para que realmente no desee nada más que la vida contigo.

Lléname con el poder de tu Espíritu Santo para que siempre trate

MINISTRY ASSIGNMENT

We are familiar with the phrase, ‘Unity in

the midst of Diversity.” In spite of the

diverse backgrounds of a group or a

community, there can always be elements

and aspects that can unite them. Something

in common so to say; we can have our

differences, but we can still co-exist and

live in peace and harmony. We wish and always pray for

unity. Hence, it becomes a shock for us when the Lord

would say in the gospel this weekend, “Do you think that

I have come to establish peace on the earth? No, I tell

you, but rather division.” It is difficult to fathom these

words, especially if they are taken out of context.

Everyone has to make a decision and a final position for

the Kingdom.

Christ can be the cause of division if we stand by him

who is the Truth. Others may deviate from his teachings

of love, justice and peace. They may opt to stay where

they prefer the mundane appeal of this world, and ignore

the invitation of the Lord and his Church. The Gospel can

be very challenging and hard to follow. Thus, not once

did the disciples would say, “Who then, can be saved

Lord?”

We are all called to be part of the Kingdom of God. We

have to believe and follow Jesus if we want to be saved.

He is the Good Shepherd. We have to listen to him and

hear his voice If we follow the ways of the Kingdom,

then we have a common path. We can journey together in

peace, joy and harmony.

DID YOU KNOW? Don’t let a predator use fear to manipulate a child Many victims of abuse don’t report the abuse right away, if

ever. Predators groom their victims, and part of this process is

designed to make the victim feel like they should trust their

predator, even more so than their own parents. Many victims

also have a fear that their parents or trusted adults won’t believe

them, or that they will get in trouble for what happened —

sometimes an abuser will threaten a child, using the child’s fear

to buy the child’s silence. It’s important for parents to teach

their children to talk with their parents about what is happening

to them, what might be frightening them, and that they will be

Week of Priestly Renewal

As was announced last week, Archbishop Jose Gomez has called a

gathering of all of the priest who belong to the Archdiocese of Los

Angeles. His purpose is to challenge us to a renewal of our priestly

commitments and service. Approximately 350 priests will assemble

and spend several days of prayer and fellowship, hear input from a

number of speakers, and engage in discussions. We ask that you

keep us in your prayers during these days.

¿Estamos familiarizados con la frase, "Unidad

en medio de la diversidad". A pesar de los

diversos antecedentes de un grupo o una

comunidad, siempre puede haber elementos y

aspectos que puedan unirlos. Algo en común,

por así decirlo; podemos tener nuestras

diferencias, pero aún podemos coexistir y vivir

en paz y armonía. Deseamos y siempre oramos

por la unidad. Por lo tanto, se convierte en un shock para

nosotros cuando el Señor diría en el evangelio este fin de

semana: “¿Crees que he venido a establecer la paz en la tierra?

No, te lo digo, sino más bien división. ”Es difícil comprender

estas palabras, especialmente si están fuera de contexto. Todos

tienen que tomar una decisión y una posición final para el

Reino.

Cristo puede ser la causa de la división si apoyamos al que es la

Verdad. Otros pueden desviarse de sus enseñanzas de amor,

justicia y paz. Pueden optar por quedarse donde prefieren el

atractivo mundano de este mundo e ignorar la invitación del

Señor y su Iglesia. El Evangelio puede ser muy desafiante y

difícil de seguir. Por lo tanto, ni una sola vez los discípulos

dirían: "¿Quién, entonces, puede salvarse, Señor?"

Todos estamos llamados a ser parte del Reino de Dios.

Tenemos que creer y seguir a Jesús si queremos ser salvos. Él es

el buen pastor. Tenemos que escucharlo y escuchar su voz. Si

seguimos los caminos del Reino, entonces tenemos un camino

común. Podemos viajar juntos en paz, alegría y armonía.

¿SABÍA USTED?

No permita que un depredador use el miedo para manipular a

un niño Muchas víctimas de abuso no denuncian el abuso de

inmediato, si es que alguna vez lo hacen. Los depredadores

preparan a sus víctimas, y parte de este proceso está diseñado

para que la víctima sienta que debe confiar en su depredador,

incluso más que en sus propios padres. Muchas víctimas

también temen que sus padres o adultos de confianza no les

crean, o que se metan en problemas por lo que sucedió; a

veces un abusador amenaza a un niño, utilizando el miedo

del niño para comprar el silencio de éste. Es importante que

los padres de familia enseñen a sus hijos a hablar con ellos

sobre lo que les está sucediendo, lo que podría estar

asustándolos y que recibirán apoyo al compartir esa
