FROM THE PAROCHIAL VICAR Hello! Is it still night?
An old Rabbi once asked his disciples how they could tell when the night had
ended and the day had begun.
"Could it be," asked one of the students, "when you can see an animal in the dis-
tance and tell whether it's a sheep or a dog?"
"No," answered the rabbi.
Another asked, "Is it when you can look at a tree in the distance and tell whether
it's a fig tree or a peach tree?"
"No," answered the rabbi.
"Then when is it?" the disciples demanded.
"It is when you can look on the face of any man or woman and see that it is your
sister or brother. Because if you cannot see this, it is still night."
Seeing a brother or sister in others isn’t always easy but it is necessary for us who
strive to be the faces of Christ, the embodiment of love.

Hola! ¿Todavía es de noche?
Un viejo rabino preguntó una vez a sus discípulos cómo podían saber cuándo
había terminado la noche y había comenzado el día.
"¿Podría ser", preguntó uno de los estudiantes, "cuando puedes ver un animal en
la distancia y saber si es una oveja o un perro?"
"No", respondió el rabino.
Otro preguntó: "¿Es cuando puedes mirar un árbol en la distancia y saber si es
una higuera o un melocotonero?"
"No", respondió el rabino.
"Entonces, ¿cuándo es?" preguntaron los discípulos.
"Es cuando puedes mirar el rostro de cualquier hombre o mujer y ver que es tu
hermana o hermano. Porque si no puedes ver esto, todavía es de noche".
Ver a un hermano o hermana en los demás no siempre es fácil
Pero es necesario para nosotros que nos esforzamos por ser el rostro de Cristo, la
encarnación del amor.
