Getting Ready for the Move
Rite of Dedication of St. Theresa Catholic Church and Altar
T he Rite of Dedication of a Church and an Altar contains liturgies and rituals to remind the people that the structure built of stone will be a visible sign of the living Church, God’s building which is formed of the people themselves. At the conclusion of the renovation of the building,
the church is dedicated to God with a solemn rite. Since the celebration of the Eucharist on the new altar after it has been solemn-ly anointed, incensed, covered and lighted, is at the heart of the dedication ritu-al, a renovated church is, as far as possible, not used for the celebration of the sacraments until after the Rite of Dedication has taken place. To celebrate the rite after the altar has been in use is anti-climatic and can reduce the rite to empty symbolism. When the people of the parish community gather to celebrate the church build-ing renovation, they will have made many decisions, balanced a variety of needs, and overcome a multitude of challenges. As Cardinal DiNardo cele-brates the Rite of Dedication and receives the church form his people, the con-nection between the diocesan Church and the parish community is particularly evident. The Rite of Dedication provides that the walls of the church will be anointed with sacred chrism. These points will be marked by crosses. A bracket for a small candle will be affixed to the wall beneath each of these crosses. The can-dles in these brackets are then lighted during the ritual at the dedication, on anniversaries of the dedication, and on other solemn occasions. Please join us in this history moment in our parish life on August 14th, at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome...Back!
In anticipation of returning to the Church, we will present a series of articles to help St. Theresa Community prepare for the move into the Church.
See below for the sixth article of the series.

Help Fund Our New Electronic Keyboard: Take Home a Piano of Your Own
Parishioners interested in buying a baby grand piano may be able to serve their needs while offsetting the parish’s cost of buying a
new electronic piano keyboard for our 5:30 Sunday Mass.
We are selling the piano that we currently use in the gym in order to help us buy the new keyboard. (Don’t worry, we will maintain
the piano that we currently have in the new church choir loft.
The 5:30 Sunday Mass group will play downstairs and use the electronic keyboard.). We encourage interested parties to look at
the piano after any Mass in the gym, and to contact Enrique Benitez at [email protected] or 713-869-3783
with purchase inquiries. Thank you!
