Standing on the deck, he began to meditate. What if all the passengers were called together and told: "There's plenty of food, and we've sufficient fuel to last for a long time. Meals will be served at regular times; games will be arranged in the evenings; and concerts will be pro- vided for your entertainment. There's just one thing. We've decided not to pull in at any port. We're going to sail around until all the food is gone and all the fuel is used up, and then we're going to scuttle the ship. We'll sink it." As Weatherhead thought about this, he real- ized that for a time, nothing would appear to be any different on the ship. But there would be a very big change. If such a speech were made, it would take away any sense of purpose from the lives of the pas- sengers. There would be no reason for their journey, no destination toward which they sailed. And Weath- erhead says that, in his imagination, he could see that as the days and perhaps even weeks wore on, one by one the passengers, in the cover of night, would slip over the rail and disappear into the dark- ness. His point? A life without purpose isn't worth living. So, the next question is, “What on earth am I here for? You are invited to ask and an- swer that question for yourself in a Small Group, September 13 -- October 25. Beginning September 13, You are in- vited to join us for a brief time of worship and praise on Sunday evening at 5:00pm, a lite supper, and a small group. [Well, it says, “Behold, I do a new thing.”] I hope you’ll want to be a part of this new experience here at First Christian Church. It will be a wonderful opportunity for us to grow in our relationship with God and with one anoth- er, and discover “what on earth we are here for?” In His love, Martin

What an awesome weekend! We had the privilege to host

“The Summer Chill” August 7th-9th here at FCC for 6th-12th

grade students. Including students, staff, and adult volunteers

we had over 60 people involved in presenting the Gospel and

encouraging Perry students to be Misfits for God in the world

around them.

We began the event on Friday afternoon and were joined that

night by speaker Frank Gil, and worship band Hold the Line.

Frank challenged all of us in our faith, encouraging us with

the words of Paul the Apostle in Romans 12:2 “Do not be

conformed to the pattern of this world but be transformed by

the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and

approve what God’s will is – His good, pleasing and perfect

will.” We ended Friday night with a night swim at the Perry

Public pool and a campfire featuring s’mores!

Saturday morning came early (especially for some of our

adults) but it didn’t take long for the fun to begin! By session

2 that morning the students were really getting into praise

and worship and singing right along with the band. Ice cream

sundaes with lunch helped cool us off before a long afternoon

of slip n’ slides and paint wars at Century Park. We ended

Saturday with another great worship session, and family

group competitions.

Our Misfit crew joined us Sunday morning in the 10:30 wor-

ship service, and dismissed shortly after. After two fun-filled

days I think we were all ready to be back in our own beds by

Sunday night!

Our youth had a great time, and many have told me that they

were really drawn nearer to God this weekend. One girl even

made the decision to be baptized on Sunday! And it wouldn’t

have been possible without the help of some AMAZING

adult volunteers! We have the best cooks, family group lead-

ers, game planners, monetary donators, shower monitors, me-

dia team, shirt washers, tasty paint mixers, bathroom clean-

ers, and teenager “hangerouters” ever!

Thank you ALL so much for the investment you’re mak-

ing in the youth. We can’t wait to do it again next year!

AED now installed The church has recent-ly purchased a AED (Automated External Defibrillator). Property Committee has installed it in the hallway leading to the Education Wing of the church. This unit is used to treat the most common causes of sudden cardiac arrest. SCA is a condition that occurs when the heart unex-pectedly stops pumping. SCA can occur to anyone, infant, child, adult. The only effec-tive treatment for ventricular fibrillation is de-fibrillation. The AED unit treats VF by send-ing a shock across the heart, so it can start beating again. Should anyone need this treatment, the AED unit has voice instruc-tions for each step when using the defibrilla-tor.
