August 1, 2013 On Saturday, July 20th, twenty-five Country Life Partners, friends and family members got themselves out of bed early to attend our first ever Field Trip to the Fair Hill Training Center - where they got to watch Partnership fillies Goddess of War and Moon Map on the track and then visit them back in trainer Mike Trombetta’s barn (see page 2) and were treated to a full tour of the facility by manager Sally Goswell. Highlights of that tour included Dr. Kathy Anderson’s veterinary clinic and Dr. Bruce Jack- son’s therapy center, where the Field Trippers had the exciting privilege to visit with Ken- tucky Derby winner Orb in his stall (see page 3). Given the number of partners who wanted to come but were unable to attend this time, expect us to take another trip to the fantastic facility in the near future. On Saturday, July 20th, twenty-five Country Life Partners, friends and family members got

themselves out of bed early to attend our first ever Field Trip to the Fair Hill Training Center

- where they got to watch Partnership fillies Goddess of War and Moon Map on the track

and then visit them back in trainer Mike Trombetta’s barn (see page 2) and were treated to

a full tour of the facility by manager Sally Goswell.

Highlights of that tour included Dr. Kathy Anderson’s veterinary clinic and Dr. Bruce Jack-

son’s therapy center, where the Field Trippers had the exciting privilege to visit with Ken-

tucky Derby winner Orb in his stall (see page 3).

Given the number of partners who wanted to come but were unable to attend this time,

expect us to take another trip to the fantastic facility in the near future.

With multiple stakes winner Moon Philly having shipped up to

Saratoga to run in that day’s $200,000 Grade 3 Shuvee Handicap

(she finished a good 4th), and the 2-year-old Moon Orbit having

shipped back to Merryland with sore shins, Goddess of War and

Moon Map were the only Country Life Partnership runners stabled

at trainer Mike Trombetta’s Fair Hill barn on the day of the Field

Trip. But the two fillies made it more than worth our while as they

cut impressive figures on the track, and were friendly in their

stalls.

Goddess of War is now close to her racetrack debut, while Moon

Map, who hit the board in 2 of her 3 starts in 2013, unfortunately

had to return to Merryland for some R&R after our visit.

For more information about any of

our exciting partnerships,

Goddess of War breezed 5 furlongs

over the Tapeta in company with

Souper Knight on July 20th (top),

while Moon Map galloped on the

dirt track a few days after her most

recent run.

Each was welcoming to the Field

Trippers back in trainer

Mike Trombetta’s barn later that

morning, as Moon Map posed with

Kevin McGill (above, left) and

Goddess of War ate out of Laurie

Asseo’s hand (above, right).

Deb McSweeney had no treats for him (below).

Fair Hill’s most famous current resi-

dent is Malibu Moon’s Kentucky Derby-

winning son Orb (below), who has been

breezing at the Elkton facility on a

weekly basis as he prepares for

Saratoga’s “Mid-Summer Derby”, the

Travers Stakes on August 24.

After taking the Run for the Roses at Churchill Downs in

May, Orb has had to deal with his fair share of flashbulbs

and swooning fans (above).

A big thanks to Fair Hill Training Center

Manager Sally Goswell, who spent the morning

with our Field Trippers, showing us around and

telling us everything we could ever want to

know about the facility. And to Melissa Begley,

who let us disrupt her morning in trainer Mike

Trombetta’s barn.

Fair Hill Training Center Manager Sally Goswell points out features of the training tracks from

the Clocker’s Tower (above), and gives us a closer look at the Tapeta surface (below right).

Meanwhile, Country Life Partner Cathy Bay shows off her stride on the Tapeta (below left).

The railbirds keep a close eye on

things (above), while trainer

Mike Trombetta’s assistant

Melissa Begley (below) was a

gracious host in “Chevation 5”.

It turns out you can fit

way more Field Trippers

than horses in the stall

with the vibrating floor

in Dr. Bruce Jackson’s

therapy barn.
