Hi Gang .

This months featured Members car is Denis Wilmot’s 1984 Regent Grey 3.6M.

Towards the end of last month the following photo appeared on the web site www.jagicr.org

On the left long time member Albert Scales On the right now known to belong to Trevor Kent

Bryan made contact with Albert in order to accertain who owned the blue on TK 2

Hi Brian,

Both the cars are XJ-SC 3.6 autos the other owner is called Trevor Kent and he lives in Bucks, he apparently has had the car since about

1990 I am not sure about the wheels but the car is a 1987 build. They only made the 3.6 automatics for a six month period at the

beginning of that year.

I am going to Waddington but will be attending on the Saturday I have a local club show on Sunday The Matching Green Classic and

Sports Car Club cars on the village green show I am a member, with a bit of luck I will probably see you at the NEC later in the year as

the MGCSC have been invited to have a stand and we will be showing about six cars.

If I do not see you at any of the other Jag Meetings before the September Silverstone get together best of luck at the Concours events.

Are you going to any JDC or JEC meets this summer?

Regards

Albert

Ok so let’s put the records straight for all you Auto Owners.

As you all know only 106 3.6 Autos were built out of the 1,148 3.6 XJ-SC’s built.

What most people do not know is that the first 5 Cabriolets built in 1982 were in fact Automatics, followed by 1 in 1983 & 2 in 1986.

This, if my maths is OK that leaves 98 built in 1987 from Vin 138442 on the 15th Jan to Vin 144591 on the 1st Sept 1987.

Located to date 57 worldwide 41 with owners names. 36 in UK & 5 in Europe. A DVLA check today shows 19 currently taxed in UK.

First thing this morning I had a new member to approve one Sheila McLuskey when I checked out the Vin the Cabbie had been

previously been located & a Mike Obrien made contact Jan 2011 via Jag Club Ontario shortly after welcoming Sheila I received the

following

This is the car we bought from Mike, who got in Montreal. The car was much unloved and is missing parts (boot cover, sun visor and a

few other bits) and was in terrible mechanical shape. Mike had the mechanical work done; there is still some work to do. You confused

me by the registration number, which here they are only license plates and can change like the weather here! Yes it is the same car from

your old photo. Global Automotive did a huge amount of work and it is now is running condition. It still needs another blower motor and

some work to get the acceleration up to where it should be. By the end of the summer it should look and run like a charm!

You may recal in the March Tickford Special News letter I mentioned hat I had been contacted by the Tickford Owners Club

Hi

I have just found the Aston Martin Tickford build number in boot rain channel 348 (photo) Hope this helps with register info.

Mike Foster

ex Riders Jaguar Devon 1983-2002.

It transpired that another of their members Terry??? Also owned or did own what he thought was a Tickford Vin 115864.

Surprise, surprise.

Good morning Bleasie,

My Vin is SAJJNACC7CC115864.

I have had car for 2 weeks now, was imported from UK at some stage. MOT sticker date is 30/9/07.

Car runs well but needs to have compliance plate and statutory testing completed before I can get her onto the road.

Had a 1964 S Type prior to this, but this is much better.

I have looked up the VIN # details on the web but it does not give me full details, I am told it has the Getrag gearbox,

I do know it is a 3.6L straight 6 manual.

Any further info would be appreciated.

Misconstrued

I well remember way back in the mid 50’s when I was an apprentice Organ Builder. The local vicar announced to the

congregation that the church now had an “ Electric Organ”. (Charles will understand) What the vicar meant was we now had an electric motor fitted to inflate the bellows & no longer need a choir boy to pump up the bellows by hand. How often have you seen this? The V12 engine runs strong and makes for a very enjoyable driving experience! The other luxury features as you would expect in a

motorcar of this calibre include, Automatic Transmission, Air Conditioning, Power steering, Power Brakes, Power Windows, Power

Locks, Power Antenna and Power Seats.

I was pretty certain that no Cabriolets ever had electrically operated seats having driven the last Cabriolet built on several occasions &

had to adjust them by hand. The Jaguar parts Catalogue makes no mention. However it does say from Vin 139052 heated seats fitted &

shows 2 part numbers required DAC 4610 X 2 Seat heater Squab & DAC 4604 X 2 Seat heater Cushion.

Based on that one can assume that the switches shown in the photograph (from the car advertised with Power Seats) operate the heating

elements. Wrong- never assume.

A quick E mail to known owners of Cabriolets post Vin 139052 & within hours.

Hi Bleasie,

On my car one of the switches is for the seat heater (the one with the indicator light) and the other (with the two arrows) blows up and

deflates the lumbar support. Mine work but I suspect there must be a slow leak in the inflatable support since it goes down on its own

after a little bit. I had a Series III VDP and it had the same switches and functions. I have always thought it was a little cheesy for a car

of that class to have mechanical seat movements (I had a BMW L7 of the same year that had electric seats, stored seat positions for

multiple drivers, AND heating elements).

David King (San Diego)

Bleasie.

Mine (139740) has the same switches and are all operational. The switch with the lamp is for the seat heater. The second switch is to

inflate/deflate the squab (lumbar) support.

Hope this helps.

Charles Kegg (Uniontown Ohio)

Thanks Guys another problem resolved. Or is it?

Sorry Gentlemen,

I don't have these switches on the side of my centre console. Can't help you out.

Kind regards,

Dirk Poels (Antwerp)

For those of you who do have them the part numbers are as follows

DAC 5076 / 7 Switch heater RHS / LHS & DAC 4436 / 5 Switch Lumber Adj RHS / LHS

Lucky coincidence!

Hi John,

Drove up to my sister in Moreton in Marsh, Gloucestershire, and last Thursday. She loves to take us sightseeing and we ended up in a

tiny village called Blockly. Suddenly, I spotted a Cab in a narrow side street and she was good enough to stop and let me out. I found the

owner of the Cab washing his X300 next to it.

Long story short, he is not a member of any club, and has no email but is a Jag nut and here are all his details. I have been told to ring

him when I next go up so we can go for a beer! Told him about the ICR but couldn't spend as much time as I would have liked.

1987 (E Reg) V12 but Reg changed - DJG 889L - He only paid £1,500 got the car!!

Maroon metallic, black hood, light beige upholstery (I think), 16" BBS lattice alloys. Overall very presentable and visible rust seems to

be mainly in the sill area.

SAJJNACW3CA142869 Number in the boot gutter - 4160.

Thanks Archie Turns out to be one that came to Cabriolet 2002 @ Wimpole Hall ---- DJG ( D Greenfield) Never heard of from that day

until now another alive & well

The weekend of July 2nd

& 3rd

saw 6 Cabriolets on parade at RAF Waddington Air show, which attracted a record number of 180,000

visitors over the 2 days. The crowd puller to our display was of course Jane’s XJ 220 I could not believe how many people had never

seen one or even knew what it was. It will however be on display again this year at Silverstone Classic, National Day, XJ Day, & of

course Supercar & Cabriolet 2011 Day in September @ Silverstone [ David Manners Jaguar Day in the Midlands]

Mystery Cabriolet

Bryan found this earlier its dated October 1983 & the Cabbies reg number is A 188 HVC & asked did I know if it was still around?

According to the DVLA it was first Registered 21-September -1983 & was due for renewal 01-September -1985.

Having checked the Data Base neumerous times I can find nothing concrete. Only a handfull of Cabriolets had been manufactured by

Sept 1983 17 to be exact & only one in green Vin 111850 Reg # A 424 HWK (Coventry) also first Registered 21-September-1983

could these be the same Cabbie????

First owner Jaguar Cars, 2nd N A Johnson, Bidford-on-Avon, Warwickshire, last known keeper Clive J Richard currently taxed which

makes it the second oldest surviving Cabriolet.

This dropped into my E mail last week.

You have a new comment to approve on International Cabriolet Register. Roman Houdek wrote on your profile

Jack Jay Reese-this guy stopped me last week wondering about my car and he told me he just bought one XJ-SC Cabriolet.

He is from Wisconsin.

Email: supplied

Obviously I decided to contact JJ

Hello, John and good morning.

Here’s the VIN (I think I got all the info) SAJNV384XHC138334…

My car file is at the house, going home for lunch and will double check this to make sure...

Any info that you can find out, would be terrific!

I just bought it! It’s not at my home, just yet (have couple more payments to go lol), then it’s gonna be shipped to me when I come back

from Hawaii in August.

The car is in Massachusetts, currently. I live in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

Can you tell me more about this (and these cars?)...it’s a V-12 and has really dark blue interior and blue top.

July. Jagicr Members Kevin & Bryan with their trophys at Newby Hall. Kev took best in CLASS in “Pride of Ownership” & Bryan “Best in CLASS “Concours” Well done to both.

As you all know Kevin owns the earliest surviving Cabriolet Body number 5Y001005 Trim date 05 May 1983.

A couple more were spotted which I can’t identify

54 FKN according to DVLA is currently registered as not being taxed since September 2009.???????

The tax disc clearly indicates this. Why anyone would risk an £80.00 fixed penalty & a possible £1,000 fine is beyond

me.

Reg # B 6 XJC also not on Data Base?

A quick text to ????? & bingo Vin114136 Alan you have changed your plate.

New Hon. Member 15th

July. (Brett Bass, Gold coast Australia) (Thanks for the donation)

You may have spotted from Brett’s Avatar that it’s not a Cabriolet but it’s much rarer than a Cabriolet it is a V12 XJS.

Not just any old XJS though, Chassis # 2W1131 21-Aug-75 but that’s not all, it is also the second XJS V12 Manual built & possibly the

earliest survivor of the 385 built. (Not 352 as quoted elsewhere). As my latest Project for Jaguar Heritage is the XJS V12 Man.

I thought I would make Brett an Hon Mem. (2W1131 means it is XJS #131 built----- 1st XJS built 2W/1001 on the 10th Jan 1975)

Chassis # 2W1131 --Built 21-Aug-1975 was Jaguar Press Car for the V12 Manual

July. (Maarten Roelofs Netherlands) Each time I approve & welcome a new member I always ask how they

found us? I seldom get a reply however Maarten pre empted me.

Dear Mr Bleasie,

I have bought the XJ-SC around September last year, then had it shipped to the Netherlands. It has been on the road since around April

this year, and I have been doing quite a few structural repairs to it. Buying from the US is hardly ever a good idea - I’ve learned.

It nice to have found your register. I was made to attention of the register when I drove back from Goodwood, and a very friendly sir (a

friend of yours), told me to register my car with you. I believe he had a regular coupe, but we only spoke five words as we were in a

traffic jam. (I wonder who that could be?)

Currently, I'm working on the carpets and insulation, as most of the engine work has been done (except aircon, cruise control, and maybe

I'll get to do the radiator one day). And when we have a nice sunny day I will make a few pictures.

Thank you again’

Maarten Roelofs

Well Maarten. Your Cabbie was already on the Data Base found for sale in Aug 2009, Aug 2010

Vin 138353 Off Trim Date 12-Jan-87

National Day is now less than two weeks away Cabriolets along with XJ220’s will have a dedicated parking.

Please let me know if you will be attending so far only 5 Cabriolets are confirmed.

I am pleased to report 10 Cabbies made it to the Silverstone Classic including Gerd & Michaela Munch (sorry no umlout can’t find one

on my keyboard)

A full report next month.

Norman Dewis,Michaela, & Bleasie

Well folks that’s it for this month.
