Auger Cast Pilings
Auger Cast Pilings are a deep
foundation application. A geotechnical
engineer would recommend deep
foundations when:
designing very large loads
soil reports show poor soil
quality at shallow depth
site constraints make other
applications impossible
Some common applications are for
support and anchoring of tanks, high rise buildings, towers and pools.
The process of installing Auger Cast Pilings consists of placing a rotating continuous flight
hollow-stem auger into the ground to a predetermined pile depth. High-strength cement
grout is injected under pressure through the hollow stem as the auger is withdrawn to fill
the augered void, preventing hole collapse, and causing penetration of the grout. Steel
reinforcement cages are often placed within the pile for added strength.
There are several advantages in using Auger Cast Pilings over other types of deep
foundation applications.
No Casing Requirement - The auger maintains the integrity of the pile shaft.
High Skin Friction - Rough exterior provides higher gripping power to surrounding
soil allowing greater bearing value.
Less Noise - The drilling & pumping process is relatively noiseless when compared
to the hammer impact noise created by driving piles.
No Vibration - Minimal disturbance allows for installation in close proximity to other
existing structures. Also effective in environmentally sensitive areas.
Close Proximity - Custom equipment and techniques can allow installation in areas
with low headroom clearance and tight property line abutments.
Used in both residential and commercial applications, shaft diameters range from 12" up
to 48" and quantities can vary from one (1) cubic yard to over 1,000 depending on design
load requirements. John N. Puder maintains the necessary equipment and manpower to

and quantities.
