AUGUST 2010 AV – ELUL 5770 from OY to JOY A DENVER JEWISH SENIOR ACTIVITY GUIDE VOLUME 3, ISSUE 8 FREE Temple Micah, an enduring and endearing Reform Jewish congrega- tion led by Rabbi Adam Morris, offers a variety of services and programs which draw seniors and others, including visitors from the broader Jewish community. Micah seniors are an integral part of this congregation and take advantage of opportunities connecting them with one another and with people in different ages and stages. Founded more than a half-century ago, the synagogue shares space with Park Hill Congregational Church (PHCC) at 2600 Leyden Street, and sometimes jointly sponsors interfaith events such as adult study options or Holocaust commemoration. Here’s a sample of Temple Micah’s senior-suitable programs coming up in the year ahead: Micah Boomers: A recently formed adult education group of singles and couples whose children, if any, are grown. The group is examin- ing ethical and moral issues through a liberal Jewish lens while also enjoying potluck meals. Bubbye’s & Zayde’s Shabbat Camp: A Jewish cultural mélange of crafts, cooking projects, music and stories for children, ages 5–10. This Saturday-morning program is led by grandparent-like congre- gants seeking to span generations, transmit Jewish heritage and build rapport with younger temple-goers. Shabbat Tisch, Saturday-morn- ing informal gatherings to talk about Torah, pray, sing and nosh, directly follow Shabbat morning services, all taking place concurrent- ly with Bubbye’s & Zayde’s Shabbat Camp at the same site. Rabbi Mo’s Roundtable: Early-morning weekday discussions once a month with Rabbi Morris (aka “Rabbi Mo”) and Micah congregants. This exchange of ideas and views on timely topics of Jewish interest alternates at several cafes across metro Denver. Buy your own coffee or breakfast, if you wish, and start the day with stimulating schmooze.
