UPDATE REGARDING COVID-19

Dear Audio-Reader patron,

As we enter new phases of re-opening businesses and institutions across the state and the country in light of the COVID19 pandemic, Audio-Reader’s operations are dictated by the University of Kansas’s guidance plan.

KU’s plan outlines 5 steps for re-opening university activities, and Audio-Reader staff and volunteers would re-enter the Audio-Reader building in the 5th phase of the plan.

Therefore, we are currently still operating remotely, and staff and volunteers are working from home in order to continue the services you rely on. We appreciate your patience with any delays or interruptions to the usual services you may be accustomed to.

We feel very fortunate to have more than 50 home-reader volunteers who have stepped up to continue providing the content we bring to you, day in and day out with news, information and entertainment on our Broadcast Stream, Telephone Reader service, Amazon Alexa and Special Requests.

Initial changes to the broadcast schedule implemented in Spring will continue through Summer, and we are

Page 5: Audio-Reader Program Guide Summer 2020...KU’s plan outlines 5 steps for re-opening university activities, and Audio-Reader staff and volunteers would ... we can resume normal operations

5

adding more content that you may be missing across the other services we offer. This includes new books on Telephone Reader, a new automobile program, and more faith-based content.

Additionally, we are making plans to offer local content from small town newspapers in the Pittsburg region, the Kansas City Metro and the Springfield, MO region. We hope to return to broadcasting afternoon papers from these regions in the Fall.

We have also taken this opportunity to reach out to you, our listeners, through phone calls from our volunteers. These check-ins help us refresh our contact information, give us a chance for feedback on the service, and allow us to connect with you in this strange time. We are very glad to hear from you, at any time.

We appreciate your patience, and like you, we look forward to resuming normal life in the near future.

Stay safe,

Dan Skinner

Director Audio-Reader Network
