Audience Feedback

What I have learned.

Audience Feedback for the video.

You can gain audience feedback in a variety of ways via social media, questionnaires and screenings. Many famous conglomerates will preview their music videos, films and trailers to an audience before it’s release, to ensure that their video does what they wanted it to do.When trying to gain audience feedback for our video we did it in a variety of ways.

ScreeningsWe showcased our film to small audiences including a range of ages and genders; teachers, students and other staff were all shown the video and then asked about it, we listened to their answers and told them we were happily open to constructive criticism. Some of the comments included that we made excellent use of the location (college) and that the transitions in and out of scenes were smooth, the shots and angels were also ‘well included and versatile’. However some criticism included that we should have developed the video more in terms of mice en scene and characters which we as a group can agree with after reflecting on the final production ourselves.

Questionnaire Feedback

The second way to collect our feedback was to use questionnaires, we first made a set of questions to be answered all related to the media product, when we showed the video to a variety of people (family, friends, etc.) we then collected the questionnaires back in to review them.

The comments included both positive feedback as well as criticism, there was a general consensus that the lip syncing was very good in the video, some positive comments included that that the approach linked with the narrative as a slow emotional song, however some criticisms showed us that there could have been more props and mise en scene could have improved.

Social mediaIn a generation where social media is the foundation of all news, videos and trends our team made a conscious choice to post the video to several sites including: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Blogger etc. This way many people across the world can view the video not just students and staff from our institution, we each have different people on our social sites and so knew we would gain a lot of different opinions on the video which would expand feedback views and give us. Below are some examples of the feedback we received.

Overall positives1. The lip syncing – Overall the feedback showed a

consensus of our lip syncing being a main strength in our video.

2. The editing and shots – There was also a lot of good feedback towards our editing, the shots weren’t to long or short and we used a variety of shots.

3. The colour scheme/effect – The dark theme and colour scheme we implied into all our production paid off as people though it made a lot of effect and gave the song more emphasis on emotion.

Overall negatives1. The mise en scene – Some constructive critism

we found were on the basis of the use of not enough props or locations/settings in the video, some people thought there should have been more than one storyline or things happening.

2. The characters – There was a comment which said ‘more personas should have been seen’ which we can gather as an opinion, maybe we should have included more than one emotion and person in the video.

Future production. If I were to conduct and produce the video again I

would deffinialty take some of the criticism and feedback we received on board and would use conventions, such as more mise en scene being used as well as characters and personas, on top of this even the positive feedback could be improved on, for example: The editing and scenery could maybe change a little in order to change more o[pinions, whatever media product I create I would realise that not everyone will prefer it and there will always be constructive critism to learn and grow from.
