Audience Demographic for Tilted Smile

Gender

• Due to the all-male line-up of the band, alongside the dominance of males in the genre, I believe that the audience demographics' age is male. The rock n roll genre, with its rebellious, heated energy and connotations of excess and sexual deviancy make it defiantly a male genre.

Age

• I believe the audience demographics age would be 16-23, due to the genre: described as “a fast, visual, edgy, rock & roll power trio”. This would appeal to a pubescent audience due to the energy the genre depicts, alongside the rebellious lifestyle it portrays, with teenagers, especially males, looking for an outlet for their new found anguish brought upon by hormones that come with puberty.

Ethnicity• As the band members

are all Caucasian it is doubtless that the demographic are also so, this result, amongst those beforehand, can be reinforced with evidence of the crowd from a Tilted Smile gig, note the vast number of young white males in the crowd.

Dress Code• Upon looking at pictures of

both the band and the audience at live concerts, it can be seen the typical rock n roll dress is worn. The leather jacket and tight jeans look, which reinforces the rebelliousness and sexual deviancy of the genre, the hairstyles do tend to vary, however most popular is the unkempt short style, which harks back to the mod style of the 60s.

Social Class• I believe the demographic to

be in-between C1 and C2, due to the large percentage of the population it holds, rock n roll being a very simple and popular genre. It is also evident due to the formal and fun-loving conversations and pictures on social networking sites such as Facebook which the band share and conduct with there audience. Another factor in this decision is the image of the band and their audience, casual shirt and jeans wear with the leather or denim jacket.

Choice Of Accessories, Jewellery, Gadgets

As evident from pictures of the band and their fans, the choice of accessories at basic jewellery, such as chained necklaces and bracelets: common with the class demographic due to their lack of extravagant price and the genre of simple rock n roll. With this in mind it can be said that the choice of gadgets are basic appliances such as a cheap mobile phone and an mp3, hi-tech musical equipment is usually rarely owned as it is not included within the genre.

Favourite Music Genres/Artists/Bands• Due to the broadness of the rock n

roll genre, the audience demographic may listen to a wide variety of music, as Tilted Smile can be seen as a more garage-rock band, the audience may incline towards similar bands such as The Vines (Top Left) or The Strokes (Top Right). Though upon looking at certain pictures of the band and audience, the casual shirt and jeans look can also be seen in the “lad-rock” bands of Oasis (Bottom) It is also evident from Tilted Smiles lastfm page which artists are similar to the band.

Choice Of Other Media• From researching into the friends of the band on social networking

sites like facebook and myspace, it is evident that fans of the band are also fans of gangster films, as is seen below.

This makes links to the attitude and rebelliousness of the rock n roll genre, alongside the factor of the male gender which is so dominant of the demographic. Another very common occurrence was the film Quadrophenia, which is a film about the mods and rockers of the 60s, which makes links to the image of our demographic.
