Introduction
The various support systems that assist the driver to park currently experiencing a wave
of innovation. A new generation of assistant to parking maneuvers is proposed for the
first time on vehicle models in the new A6 platform. Shortly after, the Audi Q3 takes the
start with this innovation. Through constant development, we managed to help the driver
to park in parking spaces increasingly small.
When the vehicle was parked in the wizard to parking maneuvers in a short space of
parking, the driver has no need to worry for out of the location. Of course, this also applies
to situations where the vehicle was stuck in a parking space by other road users. Indeed,
with the advent of the new generation of assistant to parking maneuvers, the driver can
also count on the support of the system to exit a location. This applies to parallel parking
spaces in the floor slots.
What is also new is the support for parking maneuvers into parking spaces perpendicular
to the floor, parking-called "battle." The system also provides assistance in this case.
The assistant to parking maneuvers helps drivers identify appropriate locations. Then,
the system helps the driver to enter the parking space being in charge of steering
maneuvers. Acceleration, braking and gear selection remain the task of the driver.
The optical parking assistance has also been improved. By exploiting the lateral
ultrasonic sensors wizard to parking maneuvers, it is now possible, in many cases, to
plot the obstacles detected around the vehicle on the MMI display. The obstacles
detected are shown as white or red bars, which move within sectors. Over the obstacle
approaches the vehicle, the higher the bar, in the display, approaches the vehicle.

parking assistant Audi
Overview
The new Audi A7 Sportback was launched on the market in November 2010. The A7
Sportback was the first model in the new line C. New this seventh generation is passing
on these vehicles, hydraulic steering a electromechanical steering. The main reason for
this change is the most energy efficient operation of the electromechanical steering. It
reduces fuel consumption and thus helps to reduce emissions of vehicle pollutants.
With the introduction of electromechanical steering, it is possible to provide assistants to
parking maneuvers performing steering interventions on vehicles of the new range C.
The A7 Sportback is thus the second Audi model to be equipped proposed an assistant
for parking maneuvers (PLA). It is followed shortly by the sedan and declination Before
the new Audi A6. This is the wizard to parking maneuvers and steering the generation
2.0, officially called parking assistant.
Generation 2.0 allows slots at locations which are just 0.8 meters longer than the vehicle
to park. Generation 2.0 also supports parking maneuvers into parking spaces
perpendicular to the floor, parking-called "battle." Even out of the location, the driver
receives assistance from the parking assistant. This concerns the output slots of a length
exceeding at least 50 centimeters of the own vehicle length.
The parking assistant is proposed for the first time on the Audi A3 09.
Originally, the system was assisting the driver to make a niche in reverse in a single pass.
Soon after, the 1.5 generation wizard to parking maneuvers also allowed slots made in
several passes. This allowed to park in even closer locations.
Despite the assistance of the system in various situations of parking, the driver must
remain aware that the responsibility for the operation and responsibility to the parking
assistant can reach its limits.

The assistant to parking maneuvers of the generation 2.0 assists for making slots in
reverse. We speak of niches in the case of parallel parking in the roadway.
The assistance system includes the following steps:
1. measurement of the location along
2. Proposal of appropriate parking spaces via a display in the instrument cluster
3. execution of steering maneuvers during parking
The assistant to parking maneuvers of the 1.0 generation helps the driver by performing a
maneuver in a single pass to park in reverse.
For this, the location must be at least the length of the vehicle over 1.4 m.
With the introduction of the 1.5 generation, it has been possible thanks to a niche
operation in several passes to reduce the minimum length of the location to the length
of the vehicle 1.1 m.

The driver, however, continues to be responsible for the acceleration and braking as
well as the selection of an appropriate report.
appropriate slot locations are not detected along that if the vehicle speed is below 40 km
/ h.
The system provides appropriate locations when they are between two vehicles or
behind a vehicle. The system does not offer assistance to park in front of a vehicle.
The system estimates a location is suitable if it exceeds at least 0.8 m length of the
vehicle in park (x 0.8 m).
In the case of the 2.0 generation, the minimum length of the parking space has been
reduced to the length of the vehicle plus
0.8 m. This was achieved by reducing the range of the continuous signal from 30 to 20
cm. This reduction allows to approach closer to the car parked in front and behind the
vehicle parked. It applies only in the case of a slot in a long position of 0.8 m to 1.1 m as
the own vehicle. In the case of longer parking spaces, the range of the continuous sound
signal is of 30 cm.

The parking assistant also offers assistance in the case of parking spaces located in a
turn. It does not matter that the location is in a left turn or right.

assistance to parking maneuvers is proposed has been reduced from 40 m to 20 m.

It is shown below, to support five specific situations, how the result of the niche with the
parking assistant can vary. In all five cases, the system detected a sidewalk.
Determination of the depth of the parking space
When loin location, parking assistant detects, with its ultrasonic sensors, sidewalk and
an obstacle which he interprets as a parked vehicle.
For the distance to the curb, the ultrasonic sensors measured a value x. Along the parked
vehicle, a distance y relative to the latter was measured. The depth of the parking space
is calculated based on the formula:
t = x - y
The distance from the sidewalk already parked vehicle has a decisive influence on the
outcome of the niche. This distance is called depth of the parking space, which is
abbreviated t.
Parking space relative to a pavement
T a positive value indicates that the parked vehicle is located, at least in part, on the road,
because the distance to the pavement is more important than the distance from the
vehicle. A negative value t mean that the vehicle is completely parked on the sidewalk
because the sidewalk is closer than the parked vehicle.
Situation 1:
In situation 1, t is between 0 cm and 10 cm. The assistant interpreter parking from this
value that the vehicle is mostly on the sidewalk, but two of its wheels are still on the floor.
Due to the depth calculated parking space located between 0 cm and 10 cm, the parking
assistant decides to park the vehicle completely on the pavement. It then measures a
distance of 15 cm from the curb.

In situation 2, a depth of a parking lot between 10 cm and 40 cm was calculated, as in

ment will position the vehicle so that the distance between the outer side of the tire
and the pavement is about 50 cm.
In this case, the parking assistant will line up according to the parked vehicle and not
the sidewalk.

this situation, the parking assistant station the vehicle parallel to the sidewalk at a
distance of 15 cm.
The fact that the already parked vehicle is completely on the floor or, as shown here on
the chart, a few centimeters on the sidewalk is irrelevant. The parking assistant does
not have this information, because ultrasonic sensors can not apprehend.
10
600_013
600_014
The parking assistant is able to differentiate between relatively high obstacles such as
for example walls or house walls and low obstacles such as curbs.
The assistant to the generation of parking maneuvers 2.0 also supports the output
location of parallel parking pavement. The new parking assistant does not support the
output of parking spaces perpendicular to the floor.
Provided assistance to the exit of a parking space is the space that is at least 50
centimeters longer than the length of the vehicle to leave the parking space (x + 0.5
m).
When obstacles to greater height are detected, the parking assistant positions the
vehicle parallel to the obstacle at a distance of 30 cm. In this case, alignment with
respect to other vehicles parked does not occur.
Attendance at the exit of a parking space is provided if the vehicle has not been moved
more than two meters after turning the ignition.
The aim of assistance to the exit of a parking space is to bring the vehicle in a position
such that the driver can, at the next step, leave the location with the steering set by the
system . This is accomplished by maneuvering in several passes. When this is achieved,
assistance for the release of the site is completed.

Attendance at the exit of the parking space is activated by pressing once on the Wizard
button to parking maneuvers E581 after the following events:
• setting the ignition switch
or
• a niche successfully completed using the parking assistant
When the conditions of assistance to the niche of output are met, the customer is
prompted to activate the flashing and to engage reverse. If the slot outlet is to the left in
the direction of travel, just put the left turn signal.
After activating assistance in niche output, the system checks with its sensor parking
aid if the distances to vehicles parked in front and behind are large enough. If it does
not, the system stops assistance niche output delivering a message in the driver
information system.
Similarly, it must activate the right turn in the case of a niche exit to the right in the
direction of travel.

The assistant to parking maneuvers of the 2.0 generation is helping to park backwards in
battle in parking spaces.
Called parking spaces Battle of parking spaces perpendicular to the floor.
The assistance system includes the following steps:
1. measurement of the location along
2. Proposal of appropriate parking spaces via a display in the instrument cluster
3. execution of steering maneuvers during parking
Appropriate battle parking spaces are found along if the vehicle speed is below 20 km /
h.
If the width of the measured location than the vehicle width of at least 2.3 m (x + 2.3
m), the system interprets this as follows:
the vehicle must be parked next to a vehicle and not between two vehicles.
In the case of assistance to park in the battle locations, clutch pedal, brake and
accelerator must be operated by the driver.
parking place can, as has already been explained for slots, be between two vehicles or
behind or to the side of a vehicle. The system does not offer assistance to park in front
of a vehicle.
The system, a location between two vehicles is suitable if its width is at least equal to the
vehicle width x 0.7 m. In this case, the parking assistant center the vehicle between the
two vehicles with a space there.
In this case, the vehicle is parked parallel to the neighbor vehicle, at a distance of 0.75 m
of the latter.

2012. The vintage is available to the driver if the vehicle is equipped with a parking
assistant (available as an option). The display of the periphery can not be ordered
separately.
The display of the periphery is a development of the Optical Parking System (OPS).
Contrary to OPS, the display of the periphery represents the entire periphery of the
vehicle. The display is based in part on measured data directly and partly on calculated
data.
In the case of the display of the periphery, the travel corridor of the vehicle
corresponding to the path to the current steering angle is also represented. Viewing the
vehicle moving lane simplifies the differentiation between critical and non-critical
barriers. The obstacles are not considered critical as they totally are outside the travel
corridor.
The display of the periphery is shown in the MMI display. The display appears when
activating the parking aid. It disappears from the screen when the parking aid is over
or that the driver has selected a different display theme.
In the display of the periphery of the detected obstacles are displayed as bars. the area
of one sector qualifies wherein the bars move. The periphery of the vehicle is divided into
16 sectors in total.
The bars move in direction of the vehicle when the obstacle approaches the vehicle,
they move in the opposite direction of the vehicle when the obstacle is away from the
vehicle.
Each bar represents, in one area, an area of about 15 cm. The two front areas (1) are a
measure of area of approx. 120 cm. Accordingly, a bar can be represented in eight
different positions in this sector. The two rear sectors (7) are a measure of area of about
160 cm.
All the other 12 sectors (2, 3, 4, 5, 6) correspond to an area of about 90 cm with six
different positions of the bars.

white and red bars
The bar in a sector is represented in white if a detected obstacle is not considered
critical. An obstacle is considered non-critical when temporarily located outside the
vehicle travel lane.
The bar has a red tint when the obstacle is considered critical. This is the case when it is,
at least partially, in the vehicle travel lane.
acoustic signal of the parking aid
The assignment of acoustic signals from the parking aid on detection and reconciliation
of a barrier is:
The warning buzzer H22 generates before the buzzer to obstacles displayed in sectors
1, 2, 3 and 4, the rear buzzer H15 for obstacles in the areas 5, 6 and 7.
Next the concrete sector, a continuous tone sounds from a distance of 30 cm of obstacle
or only from 20 cm.
For front and rear sectors (1, 2, 6 and 7), a continuous signal is heard from distances of
less than 30 cm for the side areas (3, 4 and 5) only from distances less than 20 cm.
An audible signal is issued by the warning buzzers for the red bars. Obstacles
represented by white bars are temporarily considered critical, so at this point we give up
an audible alert. The red color of a bar may have the following reasons:
• The area in which is located the red bar is located inside the vehicle travel lane or
there intersection with corridor.
or
• The obstacle lies in the continuous tone area.

A vehicle equipped with an optional parking assistant with the periphery display has
twelve ultrasonic sensors. It is :
• four parking assist sensors front
• four assists parking sensors in the rear
• two assistant sensors to parking maneuvers in front
• two assistant sensors to parking maneuvers in the back
surveillance zones of the four rear parking sensors overlap, so that we always get a
consistent monitoring range. Similarly, the four front parking aid sensors monitor a
coherent area in front of the vehicle.
The assistant sensors to maneuver laterally implanted realize parking on each side of the
vehicle two surveillance areas not overlapping. Between these areas there is a large
range that can not be detected directly. Indications of obstacles located on both sides of
the vehicle are therefore possible when the vehicle is moving and that the area has
already been scanned without gap by the lateral ultrasonic sensors. This is the only
possibility to calculate and display the current position of lateral obstacles.
The displays of the side areas must always be calculated, the displays of the four areas
front and four rear areas are generated directly from the current measures.

After turning on the ignition, so it is possible to display the vehicle is stopped, that
obstacles currently being detected by four ultrasonic sensors front and four rear
ultrasonic sensors. The display of obstacles on the left and right side of the vehicle
remains disabled until the areas have been scanned by the way side sensors of
attending maneuvering.
Displays calculated lateral sectors are upon movement of the vehicle, inlaid
consecutively in the direction of travel. An input side obstacles has also held even if the
PDC has not been activated by the customer. It is thus possible, after activation of the
system, immediately represent obstacles between the two side surveillance zones.

The event of default system behavior has changed with the new function of the
periphery display.
If, for example, failure of a sensor rear parking aid, the system reacts as follows:
• The help function in the parking sensors front remains available.
• It appears a fault symbol in the display, in the area of rear sectors.
• The travel corridor of the vehicle display is off.
The system behaves similarly in case of failure of one front sensor.
System behavior in case of component failure
• The display of the periphery is off (the lateral sectors disappear from the display).
• All bars are now displayed in red, it appears more white bars.
• Upon activation of the system, an alert indicating a fault is issued and the function
LED flashes in the button.
Note
For parking aid and parking assistant with the periphery of display to function, it must ensure that the ultrasonic sensors are clean and free of snow and ice.

The functions help to acoustic and optical parking and the parking assistant are
integrated into the Wizard calculator to J791 maneuvering. The J791 computer
subscribes to CAN Displays and controls.
The calculator is a calculator "terminal 15" and not cable has "terminal 30" separate. It
reads both parking aid button E266 and E581 attending parking maneuvers and pilot the
two function LEDs in the buttons. It also controls the warning buzzers front and rear

Recommendation break
Introduction
Audi inaugurates, with the recommendation of break, a new driving assistance system.
The pause recommendation derives from various vehicle information, conclusions about
the momentary attention of the driver. If the system comes to the
Operation
The software of the "recommendation pause" is integrated into the diagnostic interface
J533 data bus. The J533 calculator suitable for recommendation to break because all
bus systems are connected to this computer. This simply allows access to various
vehicle information, which are issued in the form of message bus.
The pause recommendation calculates an index from the various vehicle information.
The value of the index allows to draw conclusions about the momentary attention of
the driver. When the index exceeds a defined threshold, a pause recommendation is
issued.
Furthermore the signal G85 steering angle sensor, other vehicle information is used to
calculate the index.
This is among others:
1. time of day and duration of path
2. Vehicle Dynamics sizes
• longitudinal and transverse acceleration
• yaw rate
• vehicle speed
conclusion that the driver's attention downward, he advised, by a display in the driver
information system, to pause. A buzzer also draws the driver's attention on the rest of the
recommendation display.
The central value of the pause recommendation is the steering angle or the steering
angle speed. In the case of a careful driver, there may be slight movements continual
against-steer while driving. They compensate each other inequalities of the floor and are
used to keep the vehicle in its path.
The absence of light movements against-steer during a specified period, followed by
detection of a motion countersteering most important is for the system to index the
attention of the driver relaxes. This behavior is most commonly seen, the more the index
increases; a recommendation is then emitted to break quickly.
Note
Break recommendation function is only available on vehicles with a driver information system (FIS). It can not be ordered separately.
3. various possibilities of control and actuation
• operating a lever on the steering column
• Using controls the multifunction steering wheel
• use controls in the driver's door (eg. windows and mirror adjustment knob)
• operating the pedals (clutch, brake and accelerator)

Resetting the index value (reset index)
Issue a recommendation to break
When one of the following three events occurs, the value of the index is reset:
1. Lorque, stopped the vehicle (v = 0 km / h), the following two events occur:
• the driver's door is open
and
• the driver's side belt lock housing is open
These events occur for example during a change in driver.
A recommendation to break consists of two elements:
• an optical display in the driver information system
and
• a beep in the instrument cluster (gong)
A recommendation pause may be issued no earlier than 20 minutes after the start of the
journey. At the time of the display, the vehicle speed must be between 65 km / h and 200
km / h. The time of transmission is determined by an index reaches threshold. At the
beginning of the journey, the index counter is zero.
2. stopping the vehicle (v = 0 km / h), after 15 minutes.
This event may occur, for example when traffic congestion.
3. When the bus is put to rest after switching off the ignition.
After issuing a recommendation to break a new recommendation can be issued a
second time to the maximum. It takes place at the earliest 15 minutes after the first
break recommendation. The condition of the second warning is that the temporary index
exceeds the assigned threshold again.
A new alert can then be issued only if the index has been previously cleared.

Diagnostic
Break recommendation function is activated automatically when you put the ignition.
The condition is that break the recommendation be "activated" in the corresponding
menu MMI.
The following diagnostic options are available in the diagnostic interface J533 data
bus for the recommendation of pause:
Blocks of measurement values:
• Time of the last transmission of a recommendation from break
• Index value of the last recommendation pause (wide index from 1 to 9)
• current value of the index (scale of the index from 1 to 9)
The existing MMI adjustment when switching off the ignition switch is stored and
reactivated the next time the ignition is switched on. Customization setting via the car
key is not performed.
Actuator test:
• Issuance of a break recommendation in the vehicle
Stored faults:
• limited availability of the function
• Feature not available
Note
On vehicles equipped with the chorus radio, there is no such a setting menu. In this version of equipment, the function can be disabled using the diagnostic tester by
the VAS.
