A striking face. The new three-dimensionally carved out bonnet is rounded off by theAudi Singleframe in stone grey. Side air inlets and redesigned angular front fog lights fit in harmoniously with the overall image. The standard xenon plus headlights in new design not only look good, but also feature sophisticated technology, and are equipped with the homogeneous LED daytime running light strip.



The clear body line defines the classic Saloon silhouette which gives abalanced and elegant appearance. The continuous shoulder-line and longbonnet visually stretch the car, whilst also giving a dynamic feel to thedesign. The powerful body sends a signal of self-assured sportiness, whilstthe extended roof line emphasises its elegance.


The engines in the Audi A4: progressive, powerful, efficient. The petrol engine is equipped with TFSI®, a consequent combination of economical direct injection and turbocharging or mechanical charger module. The TDI engines are provided with the common rail injection technology. As standard, the petrol engine is equipped with the start-stop system, as a result of which they are among the most fuel efficient power units of their class.




The electromechanical power steering works dependingon the speed and ensures greater steering precisionand comfort. In addition, it only requires power if youactively request steering support.

Also new: the attention assist in the driver information system which analyses driving behaviour and recommends breaks, thus supporting the driver during long journeys.

The quattro® permanent all-wheel drive, standard on 3.0TDIq,distributes the drive force to all four wheels as required. On request,the quattro® with sports differential* offers additional dynamics.The electronically controlled sports differential ensures outstandingacceleration performance while cornering and more agile handling.

Lots of information, lots of space: the interior with the intelligently designed cockpit. Various details visibly enhance thevalue and functionality of the interior. For example, the light switch, air-conditioning system, MMI® rotary/push-buttoncontrol, vents, mirror adjustment switches, window controls and the gear or selector lever gaiter are decorated withchrome trims.

The efficient 3-zone automatic air conditioning is equipped with a sunlight-dependent control that sets the air temperature, flow rate and distribution electronically – with a separate regulation for the driver and front passenger sides and for rear passengers. The automatic recirculation mode by means of an air quality sensor and the combined particulates filter provide for even more pleasant air conditioning.

Dynamic driving does not know the meaning of the word pause. Especially when changing gear. For faster gearshifting, therefore, Audi has developed the S tronic 7-speed dual-clutch

gives you a choice of modes at the touch of a button – comfort, auto, dynamic and efficiency. In addition, the personally defined individual mode can be set via the optional MMI®

The A4 models use TFSI® technology. And theremarkable thing about it is that it combines theadvantages of FSI® with a supercharger, whichensures even better power delivery. The TFSI®engine features as standard a start-stop systemand of course fulfil the EU5 emission standard.The 1.8 TFSI has 125 kW of power and amaximum torque of 320 Nm. And it’s one of themost fuel-efficient engines of its class. The Audi

valvelift system lowers consumption and due to an intelligent thermal management the engine reaches its operating temperature faster. At the same time, it directs heat to the interior which increases your comfort and helps to lower fuel consumption. It is characterised by good consumption values and low CO₂ emissions. The most powerful TFSI engine of the series which is equipped with an innovative mechanical

supercharging system with charge air cooler is featured in the Audi S4. It turns the V6 3.0 TFSIq into a compact powerhouse – with moderate fuel consumption.

A diesel on the podium: the R18 TDI.

TDI: Start a revolution.And keep repeating it.

One in every two Audi cars sold today is a diesel.What we take for granted now was quite asensation a mere 20 years ago: Audi revolutionisedthe market with the first 2.5 litre TDI engine.Since then, developments such as common railtechnology with its refined and precise fueldistribution have made TDI even more efficient.Consequently, since the first TDI, the engines have become more economical, whilst specific output has increased. So it was only logical that a diesel car should then enter the world of motorsport.

And successfully too: in 2006, Audi was the firstcar maker to win the Le Mans 24 Hours with adiesel-powered race car, the Audi R10 TDI – andthen went on to repeat this victory several timesover, most recently in 2011.

Powerful 2.0 TDI and 3.0 TDI engines are available for the Audi A4, which operate with intelligent common rail diesel technology. In addition, they are equipped with the energy recovery as standard.

There are 2 variants of the 2.0 TDI engines developing 110 kW and 130 kW of power.3.0 TDI is available with 180 kW.In addition to their efficiency, the TDI engines are of course also characterised by their power.

The piezo injectors in the 3.0 TDI open and close in fractions of a millisecond and inject fuel several times into the combustion chamber at pressures of up to 2,000 bar.In some cases, an injection process can involve the injection of the tiniest of amounts weighing less than a thousandth of a gramme.

Pre-injection results in a “gentle” combustion process and consequently excellent combustion acoustics and agreeable engine running characteristics.


Of course, that was not good enough for us.

quattro® is a permanent all-wheel drive system.If the wheels on one axle of the vehicle lose gripon the road and threaten to spin, then the poweris transferred to the other axle – automatically andpermanently distributed through the self-lockingcentre differential with wheel-selective torquedistribution. The basic distribution is 40 : 60 – 40%of the power comes from the front axle, 60% fromthe rear. The benefit is better traction duringacceleration and improved safety due to exceptionalgrip. So much for the technology. But what makesquattro unique is really the driving feel.

“As if you are stuck to the road,” some customerssay. We put it like this: quattro gives you a betterfeel for the road and thus more safety.

The quattro® with sports differential furtherreinforces the unmistakeable quattro feeling.Vehicles tend to experience understeer whensteering or driving into corners. This is a normalphysical process: A moving object opposes achange in direction. The elastic tyres and thesuspension mounts tense up until the newdirection has been adopted. When accelerating

into a corner, the load on the front axle isreduced and it therefore transfers less lateralforce to the tyres – the vehicle understeers.With the sports differential on the rear axle, thetendency to understeer is largely counteracted.This is because the quattro rear axle differentialhas been extended left and right by a clutchsystem with two gear levels. They ensure that theindividual wheels on the rear axle receive differentlevels of torque. The clutches are activated by anelectro-hydraulic actuator. Depending, forexample, on the steering angle, lateral acceleration,

yaw angle and driving speed, the systemcalculates the right distribution of wheel torquefor any driving situation. In this way the poweris specifically channelled to the outer rear wheel,when steering or accelerating into a corner. Theeffect: the vehicle is effectively pressed into thecorner and follows the angle of the front wheels.

Everybody defines driving dynamics differently.We define it like this: drive exactly how you feel.With the optional Audi drive select, you can influence individual vehicle components at the push of a button and so change the character of your Audi. You have up to five modes available: efficiency, comfort, dynamic, auto and, in conjunction with the optional MMI® navigation systems, individual mode, allowing you to determine yourself how the associated vehicle components should behave. The comfort mode is especially suitable for providing the most relaxed driving

possible on long journeys. The auto mode offers a generally comfortable yet sporty driving experience. For particularly sporty driving, for example on winding roads, there is the dynamic mode. The efficiency mode, however, improves consumption values. As an integral part of Audi drive select, it is characterised by more energy-efficient operation and a changed shift program. In every mode, the vehicle adjustments depend on the equipment present. Audi drive select interacts with engine, automatic transmission and steering.

In addition, you can influence the suspensionwith damper regulation, the dynamic steering,the cornering light, cruise control and the quattro® with sports differential among other features – if available. The engine and gears react more spontaneously or in a more balanced manner to movements of the accelerator, depending on the mode chosen. Moreover, the engine speeds at which gear changes take place are varied in models with automatic transmission – in dynamic mode, they only happen at higher engine speeds, while in

comfort mode they take place at lower ones.The steering can also be adapted to the drivingsituation, from sporty and firm to comfortable.quattro with sports differential distributes the driveforce variably to the wheels of the rear axle to attaina high level of agility and acceleration performancewhile cornering.

Our claim “Vorsprung durch Technik” is one that weare trying to fulfil in every part of an Audi – asdemonstrated by the Multi Media Interface (MMI®)which has undergone further development. TheMMI is used to operate a number of in-car media,the navigation system and other comfort functions.

Until now, the optional MMI has been easy to use –but the new MMI® navigation which has beenfurther developed makes it even easier, with areduced number of buttons for a better overview.All six so-called hard keys, for telephone ornavigation functions for example, are locatedaround the central rotary/push-button control –

for intuitive operation. The buttons for radio and media are logically located with the volume control.

Follow your intuition –and you’ll get there.

Radio: The built-in radio receiver is set up forVHF, LW and MW and optionally transmits digitalradio with a continually updated station list.

Media: Display of available media sources such as the jukebox, inserted SDHC cards Audi music interface or CDs and DVDs;display of optional TV tuners.

Telephon/Bluetooth: The Preparation for mobile phone (Bluetooth) have a selection screen containing call lists, directory and selection interface as the start-up setting.

Car: This function allows the direct controlof driver assistance systems, vehicle settings, climate control and service functions.

The development of a new vehicle includes anumber of crash tests. At first as virtual tests on computers, then later with the car itself in the halls of the Audi Vehicle Safety Depart-ment. Our engineers do not just evaluate data from their own series of tests but also data from real accidents recorded by accident researchers and scientists from the Audi Accident Research Unit (AARU). This was

founded in 1998 and works together with the police and doctors to establish the most accurate information possible about accidents. With the help of this information, our series of tests is continually being refined. In the A4 and S4 models, there are many safety features which work in concert. In the event of anaccident, the engine and the fuel supply areimmediately stopped, the door locking

mechanism is opened and the hazard lights areactivated. The interior of the vehicles is equipped with an airbag system: adaptive front-end collision protection with seat position recognition and full-size airbag for driver and front passenger; side airbags at front (thorax/pelvis airbags) and head airbag system. The front seats are additionally equipped with seat belt tensioners and belt force limiters, and

the special seat structure impedes slipping underneath the seat belt. The highly rigid passenger compartment made from quality steel with improved deformation qualities offers extremely good protection.

The direct route to enhanced efficiency isvia innovation. For decades, Audi has beencontinuously providing decisive impetus for the entire automobile industry, there byproving that effective efficiency is the resultof a sustainable strategy. That’s why fuel consumption and emission-reducing measures are fitted as standard to all Audi models.The extensive technologies are combined ina model-specific manner and are implemented consistently throughout the entire vehicle fleet.The Audi Space Frame (ASF), which is used in a range of Audi models, is a milestone in the extensive experience Audi has gained with lightweight construction. With this revolutionary construction method, the weight of the body shell is reduced by about a third in comparison with conventional steel constructions.The latest innovation in lightweight construction. the weight-reducing aluminium hybrid construction used in the Audi A6.

Furthermore, with the TDI, Audi has developed one of the world’s most successful diesel technologies. The combination of direct diesel injection and turbocharging provides high efficiency and excellent engine power.Current highlight: the 3.0 TDI clean diesel in the Audi A4 Saloon. It already fulfils the EU6 emission standard that does not come into force in Europe until 2014. Another highlight: the downsizing technology of the TFSI® petrol engines. Five times in succession, the 2.0 TFSI engine has been voted “Engine of the Year”¹. A new evolutionary stage in efficiency is setby Audi with the Q5 hybrid quattro®: as a pioneer of electrical mobility, it marks the entry into a future that will have low emission levels in the long term.

The potential of the frugal TDI and TFSI enginesis brought particularly efficiently onto the roadwith the S tronic dual-clutch transmission withlow engine speeds and shorter gearshifting times. And the aerodynamic design of the Audi bodies can contribute to an additional fuel saving through a combination of low drag and low lift.
