SYDNEY MINT TYPE I
754 1856, reverse type 2 (M003) very rare with just a handful known to exist, aFine
Ex Reserve Bank of Australia (Downies Sale 290 Nov 2005, lot 530) Greg McDonald suggests the type 2 reverse is possibly a reworked
pattern die and states that just four examples of the type 2 reverse have been identifi ed to date, occurring only on coins dated 1856. Three examples were offered in the Reserve Bank of Australia Gold Coin Auction and we know of three others in private hands, placing this amongst the rarest issue of the series Est. $2,500
