How will this impact students and their achievement?

The mission, vision and SHARED CORE

VALUES, as outlined in the Strategic Plan of the

Auburn Public Schools, drove our decision-

making as we developed the draft FY 2017

budget – and will continue to do so as we move

forward in this process – with us constantly

considering the following question:

Assumptions made in the development

of the FY 2017 Budget

October 1st counts were used in terms of students

at each grade level to ensure consistent data was

utilized, although those numbers have already

changed

We have used the anticipated grant funds from the

240 grant (IDEA), Title I grant and the Title IIA grant

as offsets to reduce the impact of the operating

budget

We have projected the Medicaid reimbursement to

remain at its current level of $110,000, while also

using anticipated carryover funds from FY 2016

The APS Team…

Strengthening Connections through

Rigor, Relevance and Relationships

Assumptions made in the development

of the FY 2017 Budget

We have projected Circuit Breaker reimbursement at 60%

All current Instructional Assistants (IAs) and Applied

Behavioral Analysis Instructional Assistants (ABAs) have

been noted in their current assignments, although

movement is certain to occur to meet student needs

As was the case in FY 2016, we have budgeted for 11

regular education school buses, making the assumption

that the same number of students will ride the bus (we will

conduct a survey again later this school year)

The APS Team…

Strengthening Connections through

Rigor, Relevance and Relationships

Assumptions made in the development

of the FY 2017 Budget

We have maintained the same level of school choice

students as in FY 2016

Utilized offsets in revolving accounts including

building rentals, Satellite and Galaxy accounts,

building rental accounts, as well as the Preschool and

Athletic Revolving accounts

Bussing fee of $100 per student – up to a maximum of

$250/family – has been budgeted, with $80,000 planned

as an offset

The APS Team…

Rigor, Relevance and Relationships

FY 2017 Auburn Public Schools’

Draft Budget is:

$23,825,968

which represents a 2.09% increase

over the approved FY 2016

approved budget.

This FY 2017 budget request reflects the

recommended amount set by the Town

Manager and CFO.

The APS Team…

Strengthening Connections through

Rigor, Relevance and Relationships

Offsets totaling $2,416,996

were used to include available grants,

school choice funds, Medicaid receipts,

building rental accounts and all revolving

accounts…

All done in an effort to minimize the

financial impact of the FY 2017 Auburn

Public School District’s Budget on the

Town of Auburn.

The APS Team…

Strengthening Connections through

Rigor, Relevance and Relationships

There has been an ongoing commitment of

the Auburn Public Schools to work

collaboratively WITH the Town of Auburn, as a

whole, in weathering the fiscal challenges

before us

…while staying committed to our vision:

to educate and prepare students for the opportunities and challenges of a changing

world.
