Granville Schools Spectacular On Tuesday 31st October we had 28 students from our 3-6 School Choir perform at the Opera House as part of the Granville Schools Spectacular. The students did an outstanding job performing in this highly entertaining production titled the 'Great Southern Land'. We would like to publically thank all the parents and staff who supported this special event at a world class venue. The night was a wonderful exhibition of the enormous talent that we have across our school and was a great promotion for Public Education.

This is an experience that our students will remember for the rest of their lives with great pride and fondness. We also know that nights like last night do not happen without all the support, organisation and expertise of many others.

Our school had the best support it has ever had with 50 tickets sold for the event from our school community. The Opera House has been booked for Monday 2nd September next year so we look forward to many more students, staff and parents attending.

Can I pass on our thanks to all staff, parents, community members and anybody else who helped prepare our students for the choir performances. It was truly superb spectacular!

Our School Spectacular – Umid 3/6H It all started when the choir boarded the bus at school. As I looked around for a seat my heart was racing. I was feeling nervous but at the same time very excited. I felt like I had butterflies in my stomach. The trip to the Opera House was fun. My friend and I sang as we looked out of the windows at many interesting things. We saw old houses, many different parks with blooming flowers and amazing sculptures and statues. As we entered the city, we saw the magnificent Harbour Bridge, enormous buildings and skyscrapers, and the busy roads of the city. But, when we arrived at the Opera

House, I was amazed! This is how our School Spectacular started. As the choir got off the bus, we saw the magnificent Opera House. It looked so majestic! There was a sea of green everywhere! There were hundreds of choir people wearing the green choir shirts. We then found a spot on the edge of the venue and had our lunch. The air smelt of the seaside and there was a cool breeze. The view was wonderful! After we had our lunch, the choir walked to the botanical gardens and had a run around. We had lots of fun. After we had a run around, we went over to the short brick wall and enjoyed the cool breeze. But, the most exciting thing was the performance. It was the most incredible experience of my entire life. There were so many different performances. All of them were fantastic! But when it was our turn to perform, I felt like the champion of the world! It was a sensational night. I was very sleepy on the way back. When we arrived back at school, I was relieved to see my dad. We had a long hug and we both went home. What an amazing day. I would like to thank Mrs Hansell for giving me the opportunity to be part of the choir.

Touch Football Gala Day, Doyle Ground Parramatta Students from Auburn Public School were invited to participate in an all day touch football gala day, run by the NSW Touch Association on the 1

st of November 2012.

Three teams of stage 2 and stage 3 students were chosen to participate in the competition which was held at Doyle Ground, Parramatta. The teams had been training daily with Miss Isbister and Miss Ryan leading up to the competition, learning the skills needed to be competent touch football players. Finally the day arrived and with their supportive coaches at their side the teams entered the competition. All the Auburn teams played incredibly well on the day despite the hot weather and tough competition. The games were referred by high school students from the local area. The 1

st junior team played against Parramatta East Public

School winning 2 -1, their next game was against Sydney Adventist College losing 1-2, and their final game was played against Beresford Road Public School losing a close 2-3. The 2

nd junior team played against Parramatta

East Public School winning 4-0, their second game was against Blaxcell Street Public School drawing 0-0, their third game was against another team from Parramatta East and again was another draw this time 2-2 and their

final game was against a third team from Parramatta East and this time they lost, a close 1-2. The senior team’s first game was against Beresford Road Public School, losing 2-0, their second game was against St Mary’s Public School winning 1-0, their third game was against Parramatta East winning a triumphant 7-0 and their final game was against Blaxcell Street winning 3-0. The students together with Miss Isbister and Miss Ryan all had a fantastic day at the competition, with many commenting that they wished they could compete in a touch football competition every Thursday. We would like to thank the NSW Touch Association for inviting our school to participate in such a fun day. Miss Isbister and Miss Ryan Touch Football Coaches

represented our school consisting of students from Years 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. Both teams competed in a variety of events against 13 other schools. This was the first time our school entered the championship, with outstanding results. Our students made the finals for several events, including the Waltz, Cha Cha, Slow Rhythm, Samba and Australian Barn Dance. One student even placed 2

the mixed-schools event. All students received a medal, which I am sure they will cherish for a long time yet. Thank you to all the parents who made their own way to the venue to watch and support our school in this competition, and for getting up on the dance floor as well. I would also like to thank Mrs Hansell and Miss Ryan for their support and assistance on the day, as well as Mr Cross who came along on his day off as official photographer. I am very proud of both Dance Sport teams for their brilliant effort, team spirit and sportsmanship.
