Avaaz is a global civic organization launched in January 2007.

Avaaz's founding President and Executive Director is the Canadian-British Ricken Patel.

It promotes activism on issues like climate change, human rights, corruption, poverty and conflict.

The organization operates in 14 languages, and states that it has over ten million members in 193 countries.

Their foundation is Avaaz online community which campaign against issues.

Suggestions for campaigns come from members, supplemented by guidance from teams of specialists .

After it, campaign ideas are polled and tested weekly to 10,000 members and only initiatives that find a strong response are taken to scale.

After deciding the priorities, they start campaigning.

How do they work?

They supported latest Indian anti-corruption campaign. Within 36 hours, they collected 5,00,000 petitions and passed it to Government of India.

politicians involved in crimes like corruption and money laundering. 330 candidates for office faced disqualification.

About Team Avaaz

Since 2009, Avaaz has never accepted donations from any organization.

Avaaz has relied on individual donations. It has also imposed a limit to donations. An

individual can’t donate more than 5,000$. Also, issues on which they want to

campaign are decided by people.
